Dual Joystick Controls? - Pair U360 with ?
« on: May 26, 2010, 12:17:15 pm »
I am planning my 2 player control panel and I am leaning towards ball top U360's (hard spring, circular restrictor) as my main joysticks for each player.  It seems to be the most versatile option for emulation.  I am also thinking about having a 2nd joystick for each player so we can play Robotron, Karate Champ, etc.  Good idea?  If I do it, I don't think it makes sense to spend the $ on U360's for the 2nd joystick.  My question is what do you guys think would be a good reasonable option to pair with the 360.  Something that is somewhat similar in look and feel would be ideal.

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

+1  either of those two sticks should match the u360...the J-stick is a JLW, and the u360 is a modified JLW..the shafts and ball or bat tops should be identical

Think about how you will interface the U360 due to the fact that other joysticks (switch type) will need their own interface such as Ipac

I have my U360's paired with Happ Mechanical Rotary joysticks.  This allows for dual joystick games as well as rotary games like Ikari Warriors.

Do you have a picture of your panel?  I would love to see it.

Sorry, this is the only pic of it right now.  As you can barely see, the Happ Mechanical Rotaries match the U360's perfectly.  I'm using the Ultimarc rotary Interface to interface them to the PC.  They require no modding wire cutting or anything when using this interface.  They look the same as the U360's, but since they are microswitch 8-way sticks they feel different when moving.

The U360's are on the left with the rotary on the right for each player.

For my cp the two center sticks (left player right stick and right player left stick) are the u360s and all the other sticks are Happ Supers. The ball-tops and stick heights match perfectly. Course the u360s are silent and the Supers are clicky - but that doesn't bother me.

The layout allows me to play the few 2 player dual stick games (SmashTV) really well. Plus, with the u360s in the center of the cp and two buttons between, single player classics can be played left or right handed or used as dual sticks for Robotron or others.
Robots will kill you.

Dazz - is that a CPviewer 2nd LCD under your main screen?  How do you like it?

Yes, the second screen is a 7" USB LCD.  It will be for CPviewer/Marquee Magician when I get around to getting them setup.  Right now I just have it set to display the game wheel image (using Marquee Magician) from HyperSpin when the game is in play.  Also, it will be used with future HyperSpin functions as well.
