I'm new too but, Welcome!

Design's look great.  Looks like it will be a single cabinet with two CP's, excellent.

i have some questions,

what the max amount of buttons needed for a 3-4 player game?

is 3 each correct?? ie xmen?

or are there any games that need 4 buttons per person??

Yup, there are a few that use 4 buttons. Dungeons and Dragons: Shadow over Mystara and Tower of Doom is a 4-button game. Awesome game for 4 players too, especially when you work together as the different classes.

I think the Knights of Valour series are also 4 button games.

IMO, you don't need to have 6 buttons for players 3 and 4 on your 4 player panel.
Check out what I did with my El Diablo Mechanico cabinet (in my sig).

Not so sure about that button placement... They seem to be really far apart.

Yeah 1" is way too far. This looks better.

Take a look at this page, they have some good information on controller details.
