MAME, NeoGeo, and Hyperspin.... Nevermind...
« on: April 15, 2010, 01:05:48 pm »
Okay Im buying into the hype and gonna try hyperspin again (pun intended).  I got the NES setup and working, fusion for genesis working, but Nebula for NeoGeo MVS will not work, I dunno why.  Ive tried it with and without hyperlaunch, any suggestions?

I dont get any errors or anything, i turns black for a spli second like its gonna load, then it shows me the hyperspin window again.

Nebula is not one of the default supported emulators.  You will need to check out the thread on the HyperSpin forums about adding un-official emulators.

Click here for more info.  If you are not familiar with the autohotkey scripting check out our documnets section for our Using AutoHotKey tutorial.  This will tell you how to add in whatever emulator you need to.

I'm not sure... the only one I have ever used for MVS has been MAME.

I used MAME and some roms load just fine, but many give me chd or rom files missing, when nebula loads them just fine...  must have a too new version of mame, that sound right?

Yeah, your version of MAME probably doesn't match your rom versions.

IS it sometimes necessary to set up a few different versions of MAME to run all games through HS?

Found that the archive I am using is from 20080101 so I found that the latest release at that time was 122, so I tried 117-125 and I am getting the same error with all these...  When I run it with MAME alone I get the CHD or ROM file missing, and when I try it through HS it starts the tiny blue box loading....1-100 and then it closes out back to the HS screen.  Any suggestions?

Make sure that your rom names match the current database.  NeoGeo roms went through a name change around v123 or something like that.  The current HyperSpin database uses the 127 rom names.  So it sounds like your rom names just don't match that of the 127 database file.

also make sure that your chd folders are in the roms folder, not a separate chd folder outside the roms folder.

Just out of curiosity,
If you cant get your games to run with just the emulator, How does that relate to HyperSpin?
Do you have them running in any other Front-End's?

Rule #1 -they have to run first in the emulator of choice independant of the FE.
or they wont work in any FE.

Its really not FE or HyperSpin related at all.
You just need to set up your emulators (especially Mame and mame style i.e. nebula, winkawaks, model2, zinc) with the correct roms.
Other emulators for consoles arent so rom specific they can almost be named anything but in Mame and related the exe versions have to match the rom versions or you will always have hit\miss success.

Your best bet is to get Mame (whatever version) and the matching roms. (For Hyperspin Mame 137)
Even if you give up on Hyperspin they should work with other FE's.

Yes Nebula runs them all just fine, but I cant not find a version of MAME that will load it, but apparently it will, I must be doing something wrong...

The only thing your doing wrong is trying to use an unknown version romset with Mame.
Keep the set you have (dedicated) to Nebula since they work with it and get a new (matching) set for for the version of mame you want.
(you could lose your current chd's, if you get a new set since they arent working for you and I dont think Nebula uses them anyway.)

If you know the version of roms you have and cant find the right Mame try here for Previous Releases:
http://mamedev.org/oldrel.html
Roms are everywhere.

emus needing their own specific (Mame style) sets that cannot\should not, be shared for the most part (to name a few):
-Demul
-Final Burn Alpha
-Nebula
-Nebula Model2
-Model2
-Winkawaks
-AAE
-Misfit
-Zinc
-Mame ver x
-Mame ver y
-Mame ver z
Etc...
