Using MALA and have a few questions
« on: April 22, 2010, 10:41:11 am »
Hi, I have just finished installing Mala using the Invaders layout, and the layout has snapshots and marquees, but when I go through my game list most of the marquees and snapshots are not there, just have blank space. Now I downloaded snapshot bundles and marquee bundles files but seems like I need more. I have also tried using F12 to create my own snapshots but that didn't work either, dont know why. I have googled for more snapshots but have found that there the same as I already have. Games like Centipede and Beserk have only marquees showing only no snapshots. Am I missing something or thats just how it is, some games dont have nothing in for marquees and snapshots? I thought and it would be great if every game can fill the empty space, let me know if you can direct me to the right website or something? I have spent over 6 hours searching using google for more snaps and marquees and I believe I have all the web has to offer. Thanks

Have a look at the mala wiki and read the online help.

You need to use a MaLa layout that has snap etc windows in it. The default layout does not

You also need to set the path the those snap files in mala

In addition when hitting F12 that screenshot is not named correctly so you would have to rename it same as the rom file for the game in order to show up. But like Loadman says you have to use a layout that supports screenshots and such.

I'am using a layout, although just an easy scaleable one , but it has an area for marquees and snapshots, and I'am getting quite a few pic's but not all the games on my list though. The MALA layout is the Invaders. Thanks for your replies, it's appreciated. I saw the individual folders of the particular games I used F12 for,, now have to remember exactly how each rom is written up on it's file so Mala can read it correctly. Quick one for ya, if you will? How do I get CHD files to work with the Roms? Want to play Metal Slug and Killer Instinct, etc. Thanks. Jeff

I don't use the Chd's but you put them in their own file named same as the rom but it isn't zipped so "c:\mame\roms\kinst.zip" would be where your rom would be and the CHD would be in the roms folder but not zipped "c:\mame\roms\kinst

Thanks for the help on everything. I did the snapshots now I just need some more marquees and I did download quite a few marquee packs but still need more, if anyone can direct me to the website to get more marquees, it would be appreciated.  For some reason I can't get any of the mario games like mario bros. and super mario bros., I download the rom and put it in the roms folder but it wont come up on the play list. Are they CHD type roms for them? Thanks.

They are not Chd games but when you add roms you have to refresh the games list in Mala to get them working.
