Rare-- Arkanoid Bartop
« on: February 24, 2010, 09:49:11 am »
I found this on Craig's list but I instantly knew that I wanted it.

Any way, this is a what seems to be a very rare Merit SuperTop, which proceed their SuperTouch machines that you see in restaurant's/bars these days. The machine was designed to be interchangeable with different games/panels.

Arkanoid was one of their exclusive variants and this machine is all original, for better or worse.

When I got it, it was so filthy, it was unimaginable that this was being played despite what the seller told me. I took it apart and have already replaced the power supply, the buttons/switches, some of the wiring, the fan etc etc.

I'm currently working with Scott at Mame Marquees to prep all new art to make this a show piece for my game room.

All in all- when I'm done with it, it may have been more cost effective to have bought a full sized machine-- but this hobby isn't about what makes senses is it?

I'll post progress pics-- but here's where I'm at now.  I spent HOURS trying to clean the grime off. The one of the inside was a before shot (but I have done my best to clean it up).

I was totally shocked that the CPO cleaned up so well-- but I'm ordering all new art so this thing will look totally different once I'm done with it anyway.

Seriously. Will it fit in my basement or what?

Nice, never seen this kind of game before. Keep it as original as you can.
