Etouch issues/error (possibly related to 'button style'?)
« on: January 09, 2010, 09:05:44 am »
I've searced the forum and I'm searched the ETouch/Freebox site, but can't seem to find my issue.

Being new to this, I downloaded V5 of the Etouch jukebox.  Still trying it out, I have not yet purchased it.

I haven't come across any in depth users guide besides some written by users, so I had to kinda poke around the program on my own.

While poking, I remember changing a button style.  It looked decent so I selected to change all buttons to use the same style.  Now, when I load ETouch, I'm greeted with many errors and eventually after accepting each error, the look of the jukebox is less than desirable.

I've tried going back into Options to change back what I've done, but either can't locate where to do so, or I'm unable to access it ('Load Skin' is what I'm thinking, but receive an error).  I believe my selection was a right-click option, but I can't figure out where it was...

I decided to uninstall Etouch, then reinstall.  Still, the same issue as though the uninstall didn't actually uninstall everything.

So, what to do now??

Do yourself a favor and Uninstall E-Touch then delete the whole folder. Then re-install E-touch, that is the quick fix!

The skintool is a learn in progress tool and for the beginner, quite alot to learn in a short time.

Do as I suggested and you should be good to go again! Also, you will have to run the config again, but that is no big deal!

Thanks Fordman.  I saved off the Fanart, did as you said and I'm back to the original skin minus the errors.

I did come across a few guides written by you, I believe.  Besides those, do you know if Barry has any official User Guide(s)?

Being in the early stages I've got over 50,000 files loaded (without error), but they're totally fugazi with regard to tags, album art, etc., so I know I have my work cut out for me.

I'd like to determine what exactly this program can do before investing in it.

Thanks again for the tip on deleting the folder.  I hadn't checked that and assumed the uninstall would've taken care of that.

HanoiBoi,

E-Touch is probably the best DIY jukebox software that is available. Most are either abandoned by their authors or only updated every now and then. E-Touch is user driven! Barry does charge for his talents, but it is a modest charge for what is offered. He doesnt make a living but it does support his  (hobby)!

If you read alot of the E-Touch forums, you will see that the users ask for a feature and if it seems plausable and something that wouldnt be a big burden to Barry, he usually implements it into the software.

Some of the users have mastered the skintool and they also have photoshop skills so they produce skins every few weeks! E-Touch user Coffee is probably the best skin maker at the moment and he is ready to release a few more in the coming weeks.

When you upgrade to the full release, you also get access to other areas of the forums where you get to put your 2 cents worth in on beta releases and up and coming skins!

As for the tutorials, YES, they are from me! I need to do a few more as some of the features have changed in the past few months and some new ones implemented.

Go Ahead! UPGRADE to the FULL version!

Hey Fordman,

I am well aware of everything you said...Coffee's skins (with coffee themes!), Barry's willingness to add features, your guide writings, etc.

Before paying for anything, I like to do my research.  So, I'm also still looking into The PC Jukebox, TouchTrax, Album Player and MP3 Toys (I've liked this in the past, before considering touchscreen).

I do like the fact that Barry updates his creation and also lurks BYOAC.  That's certainly a plus.  But, looking for proper documentation on any of these programs is quite a task.

Thanks again,
HanoiBoi

Just want to chime in and say go ahead and purchase E-Touch.  You won't be disappointed.  I took a look at MP3 Toys, and in my opinion, it's kind of ugly.  TouchTrax is DEAD.  Don't let their website fool you.  In fact, I posted a post in their user forum about a year ago saying so, as did about 4 or 5 other people, complaining that they are still taking money, but not fixing their software, and low and behold, still no responce, but all the posts got deleted, and my account got removed.  I guess someone is still monitering the forums, but in over a year, no responce from the Author.  Stay far away from this software, as they did this once before. Wrote a program, took money, abandoned it, then wrote new software, took money, abandoned it. His last post said he was working on new software.  You do the math.

I have the demo version, so I think I have any idea of what the $25 will get me.  Unless someone knows something I don't know, which is essentially what I'm asking for.

So far though, I'm not having much luck with E-Touch.  It's most likely to do with my tagging (or lack there of), but I'm basically seeing albums (folders) broken up.  For example, in some folders I'll see just one song per folder, when I would like to see the whole folder's worth, as stored on my hard drive.  When testing out Album Player, as recommended by another user, mostly all of my folders look decent right off the bat!  Not so in ETouch.

Also, with Album Player I am able to very easily search for Album covers (tool that can search Amazon) and have been able to collect 1300 covers in the past couple days.  I haven't found that ability in E-Touch.  I'm not saying it's not there, but I haven't found it.  That's one reason I'd love to see a users guide or help files.

While I appreciate the ETouch fan base, I'm not looking for people to simply tell me 'buy E-Touch, you'll love it'.  I've read about many happy BYOAC/E-Touch users.  I guess I'm asking for the why's.  I want to lean this way, but it looks like a big learning curve.

Oh, and the beer's not the problem. I've got two beers on draft, so I'm always taking care of that.

heres what i did, took about 6 or 8 hours, i bought etouch, discover i had a chitty mp3 tagged collection, asked at freebox forums and here too, used mp3tagger soft, tagged all of my songs correctly, and now i enjoy using freebox. simple, as for my covers i used Jukebox Cover Manager i do not care about freebox downloading my cover (but that would be a very cool feature).

Thanks abispac, but could you elaborate on "mp3tagger soft"?  Do you know who makes this?

Searching for "mp3tagger soft" on Yahoo! looks to return some questionable sites.

Searching for "mp3tagger soft" on download.com returns nothing.

Searching for "mp3tagger" on download.com returns various progs; MASS MP3 TAGGER, Magic MP3 Tagger, Autumn MP3 Tagger, etc.

E-Touch can donwload covers but it is not as good as using a 3rd party app like Jukebox Cover Manager.

If you want to try in E-Touch then open the config (Assuming you have built the DB). Then click on Get Album Cover and it will find the first album that doesn't have a cover and try and get it off the internet for you. If your albums are not tagged it will have trouble as it will not know what cover to get but you can manually change the artist and album name that it auto populates from the tag to anything you want and click search again.

If you use get album at a later date it offers you the option of continuing from the last album you grabbed covers for so you don't have to go through all the albums it couldn't find covers for again.
