Oscar Controls Closed?
« on: June 22, 2005, 05:05:47 pm »
Hi Guys....has this already been discussed?

It seems like Oscar may have closed his doors due to the DF GrossCade Fisaco.

I'm totally guessing this from Zakk's open posting on his site mameworld.net.

I just checked and his site (Oscar's) says---

Oscar Controls is currently closed and not accepting orders.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

I really hope that DF doen't have a dirty paw in this.

Especially since his new "Hammer" controller offers an "Oscar Spinner style control".

AHHHHH.....this whole place is going mad!!!!  >:(

sigh.

Seriously. Will it fit in my basement or what?

From the other topics going on I think he is on the road with his job and the closure is just temporary.

Oscar has some nice examples and how-to's on his site that were linked from his homepage.  The closure page doesn't have the links.  Does anybody have the direct links to the projects?  I like to reference back to these.

No worries, I don't think Oscar gives a rats *ss what Davel Foley can or cannot do.  I just found it rediculous that items designed purely for MAME (tm) cabs, and for the MAME(tm) community can be chased, challenged and persecuted even by Mamedev (is there a tm on that?).  I just don't think it's worth the effort. I have to respect that Mamedev is apparently just protecting themselves from Fooley, and appreciating what they have done to make this hobby such as it is (create it?), I don't wish to upset them.
It's not like there is any vast riches in selling arcade components to a niche market.  I discussed the whole affair with my lawyer, and quite frankly he said "is it worth it when even the creators of the genre start to take action to stop sales, or put it this way, would there be any profit left if you had to pay a royalty on the name?"  :P

Just so it's clear that my stance is as such, and Kelsey's is probably different.  For what it's worth, he really is busy, he's taken on twice the workload and responsibility he once had.  The timing just happens to coincide with the latest happenings.

That said, there will be a couple of Oscar Controls Vortex's up on ebay in the next few hours :)  May be your last chance to own a legend! :)

Or you could save Oscar's bandwidth and use the Google cache'd page:
http://64.233.161.104/search?q=cache:FUoE8HK0BaMJ:www.oscarcontrols.com

There's so much good information on that site, some of it's not even linked to the main page (like the library of controls drawings here).

Actually, Kelsey told me once that whenever he disabled the order page, there was always people that would 'reconstruct' it and try and order anyway.

I'm fairly certain he'll come back up again - however if not, I will ask him if I can mirror the content he had unrelated to purchasing...

Proper capitalization is the difference between helping your Uncle Jack off a horse, and helping your uncle jack off a horse.

arkanoid, breakout, tempest, et al.  You can also use them as a 360 wheel in a pinch... not perfect, but it works.

Wheel Of Fortune, spices in the cupboard, and that large lower cabinet in the corner that you wouldn't be able to use if you didn't have one in there.
