Monitor Display Is Green
« on: June 20, 2005, 10:58:23 am »
quite often when i switch on my cabinet (jamma) the display on the arcade monitor is nearly always GREEN.  Sometimes it'll just go to regular colour whilst playing, other times not.

Is this something straight forward to repair?

i've heard that it may be a dirty edge connector and that wiggling the board around slightly whilst it's on may resolve the problem.  i've not had chance to try this yet.

any further thoughts?

Sounds like the picture tube has a momentary short circuit to the green gun. That would be a problem internal to the picture tube itself and requires it to be connected to a "rejuvenator" machine to repair the problem. Or you could either buy a new picture tube or a whole new monitor.

is this the sort of thing a tv repair shop could do? how easy are these things to get out the cabinet?

someone else has mentioned it could be the jamma edge connector - i've not had chance to clean it yet but when the monitor does display everything in full colour it's a cracking picture and stays on until i switch the cab off.

Any decent TV shop should have a CRT restorer/rejuvenator.  I've got one, and if you lived anywhere close by I'd test the tube for free.

Depending on who you take the tube to, they'll probably charge a 1/2 hour labor or their minimum plus a bench fee.  One caveat though, rejuvenation will shorten the life of the tube.
Side Arms, Slam Dunk, Xybots, Arachnid Galaxy darts, Pac Man Plus, Dr. Who, Gauntlet, Centipede cocktail, Hyperball, Tempest, Star Wars, Xevious, Super Hang On, S.T.U.N. Runner, Galaga, Space Duel.

to be honest if cleaning the jamma edge connector doesnt fix it i'll scrap the monitor and replace it with a regular computer monitor. i've got an ipac all ready.
