Blank screen/no signal after CRT Emudriver install
« on: October 02, 2024, 05:13:07 pm »
Hey everyone, I'm trying to install CRT Emudriver but I'm running into issues. I'm using a Dell HD6670 (DVI-D+DP+VGA) and I'm trying to use my DVI-D monitor to set everything up, but as soon as I install CRT Emudriver, the screen gets blank and my monitor enters sleep mode. Rebooting the machine, I can see the BIOS and Windows splash screen, but it loses signal as soon as the driver loads, before I reach the desktop. Tried on clean Win7 and Win10 install, can't test DP since I don't have a DP monitor. Trying with a VGA + DVI-D, only VGA gets detected, as if there was only a single display. Is there a way to fix it? I was using a CRT monitor but it died out on me (hardware related) and don't have a spare VGA cable since I used the only one I had to make a VGA to SCART cable

Make sure you installed this package: "CRT Emudriver & CRT Tools 2.0 beta 15 (Crimson 16.2.1 non-GCN* cards) for Windows 7/8/10 64-bits"

That cards looks a bit special, it has DP instead of HDMI, not usual. Of course, grab a new VGA cable, a normal home should have spare VGA cables in every drawer.

I gave it another go, formatted the PC using Win7 Pro, reinstalled the driver and... black screen over DVI-D. I then booted into safe mode, uninstalled the graphics driver and after rebooting it, I tried the latest official drivers. No dice, still wouldn't get a picture. At least now I knew there wasn't a problem with CRT Emudriver. Uninstalled the driver, rebooted, installed AnyDesk so I could connect and see what was going on, and reinstalled CRT Emudriver. Of course I lost signal immediately, but connecting remotely allowed me to actually see my Desktop, so I just proceeded with generating modelines, plugged in my homemade VGA to SCART cable and it worked like a charm. Flashed with ATOM-15 1.6 and now I get safe 15KHz resolution during the whole boot process on my 14" RGB modded CRT. It's a shame I can't get DVI-D to work, though. I really wanted to use the LCD monitor for things like Fightcade2. The only weird issue I have now is related to 640x480i resolution. While it works fine on desktop mode, any game using 480i will get out of sync, but 2560x480 works great.
