Hantarex mtc 9000 problem
« on: May 04, 2021, 06:25:20 pm »
Good day, i just purchased a arcade from someone in my local area.
He mentioned that the monitor wasnt working because he turned a "brightness" knob.
But after adjusting the image and sharpness on the flyback (gently) i cant get a clear picture out of it.
The game runs just fine so it is a monitor problem.
I have very little expirience when it comes to monitors, and this setup is completely diffdrent then my other arcade.
I will include a picture of the screen, if anyone has a idea of what i might try i am more then willing to learn and try 😊.
Ps im from europ, so voltages are completely different 😉.

do you have any vertical size and horizontal size control on the remote board?
there looks to be two issues but could be linked
do you have a multimeter?

Thanks for the reply.
From what i can see on the remote board i have, h. Freq h. Phase, h. Amp, v freq an v amp.
On the neck it has rgb controles, on the flyback screen and focus, and 2 more knobs on the main board.
Looking at the manual it seems to be contrast, but cant figure the last one out.
I think the vertical size is gonna be one of those ferite cores on the board itself ( wich was the case on my other arcade and a pain to adjust).
I dont have a multimeter, but if necesary could go and get one pretty easy.
Thanks for your time

no you misunderstand, i am very familiar with this chassis as i have worked on hundreds- what i was trying to say is do the the pots actually do anything- both vertical and horizontal size are on the remote

the reason for the multimeter is to read the b+ and make sure is stable at 130vdc

what is the game board in the cab btw?

I must have misunderstood, my bad.
Yes the pods do work, altough i cant get a good image i actually see the image changing.
The board thats in there at the moment is a spare neo geo mothdr board with a cart.
The previouse owner pulled the game when he figured he couldent save the cab.
The cabint has been neglected rather badly.

you can remove the neo cart and it should show a grid pattern which will make it easier to see whats going on

does the horizontal size adjust to the entire screen size?

if not then you will need to test b+, if it does then you have a fault in the vertical deflection circuit

I just went and checked, and i cant adjust the horizontal width.
When i turn the knob, absolutely nothing happens.
Starting to sound to me like the," i twisted the brightness knob and it stoped working story" isnt adding up.
If you could tell me what and how to check it i will give it a shot
Never used a multimeter before in my life so got to go and get one.
Is there a certain type or function on the multimeter that i should be shure to get?.
Allready thanks a million for helping me 😉

so looking at that photo either your b+ is running low- possibly around 100v or you have a vertical deflection ic failue and a bad bdx53c transistor and possibly some bad caps and possible bad solder joints

so next step, nice simple multimeter and set range to 200vdc, black probe to flyback heatshield or chassis metal frame and red probe into one of the centre two pins of the green 6 pin deflection yoke connector(which is located directly behind the flyback) 130-134vdc is correct level

if you are not confident then best to send for repair, which country are you located?

I am willing to give it a shot, wirst case scenario, i xant fix it but i have someone i know who can sell me a monitor if need be (preferably not because its quite expensive).
I am from belgium, antwerp to be exact.
So i guess its of to the store 😁.
Just to make 100% shure, i turn the cab on when measuring right?.

yes but you must place the probes first and then turn on, just to prevent you getting damaged
you should be able to find loads of online info on reading b+ on mtc9000
