Does anyone know a Crafty Mech who can work on this?

Next version of CRT Emudriver will fix all detection issues without hardware hacks.

Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.

hey Calamity do you think XP users are still ok for a while or do you think we might get phased out soon and so perhaps time to move forward away from XP, or is it impossible to predict at this stage?

That will depend on how long MAME keeps supporting DirectX 9.

As for Atom-15 does not make sense because UEFI screen and windows 7 boot screen are at 1024x768 and you cannot change this.
I have both W7 & W8 booting at 15 kHz here. Windows boots with whatever it's available. If you remove 1024x768 from bios, it will pick something else. UEFI can't do that, however.

I've seen reports of some motherboards offering UEFI as well as "Legacy BIOS" settings.  Is this what it sounds like?  Do some boards have both an old-school text-mode BIOS as well as graphical UEFI?  If so, does anyone know of any specific boards/manufacturers that offer this?

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Intel Core i7-4790K @ 4.8GHz

With an Atom patched Radeon I can still access the UEFI BIOS on my machines :)

On a low res (15KHz) arcade monitor?

You need at least a 25 kHz capable monitor because 1024x768 is required.

There's a good presentation about GOP vs Legacy VGA BIOS here: http://www.uefi.org/sites/default/files/resources/UPFS11_P4_UEFI_GOP_AMD.pdf

Calamity is right, I've got a tri-sync. UEFI only works on 25k or 31k, using an interlaced mode. The fact it works at all is tremendous though.

I can get UEFI at 800x600 on an AVGA5000 on a 15kHz CRT.
The card needs the legacy mode driver option enabled but it still displays the UEFI screen (a bit pixelated, obviously).

You mean that picture looks downscaled from higher resolution?

I assume it's being downscaled but it does fit on the screen.
