Zelda art request
« on: November 16, 2012, 05:22:48 pm »
Hey, I also posted this over at the Zelda subreddit: http://www.reddit.com/r/zelda/comments/13bldn/need_an_artist_for_a_mame_arcade/

But you guys might also be helpful :)  Here's the copy and paste:

Hopefully one of you guys can help me out here. I'm in the middle of building a mame arcade and I wanted to do it Zelda themed. It's sort of an original idea because Zelda was never an arcade so there isn't a lot of art out there for me to use. I've seen one or two other zelda cabs, but they all sort of suck IMO.

Anywho, the inspiration is A Link to the Past. A quick overview of each art piece:
Marquee -> Based off of the A Link to the Past intro, with the castle, water, mountains, etc. Some work will be needed here to "stretch" the image appropriately to fit the wider workspace.
One side -> Bottom is the master sword in the ground with all of the pretty trees from the lost woods and stuff. Above the trees the mood turns darker with more black, red and dark hues with death mountain above it, including the iconic cloud from OOT.
Other side -> Not quite sure here yet. My initial thought is to do an Epona based image, but that doesn't quite hold with the the LTTP theme.
Control Panel -> This is the most urgent need because I need to art before I can start drilling and finalize it. This is also where I would really love some initial help.

Here's what the panel looks like: http://postimage.org/image/qxqkhn08n/ The design is very much based off of this http://postimage.org/image/so9lj4hrr/ The control will be roughly arranged in the same manner.

My idea is for each player to get a different colored link, similar to Four Swords. Play one will be a green link with one heart container, second player will have a red link with two hearts, etc. P3 is blue and P4 is yellow. Each link will be positioned closer to the player near the edge.

Each player's area will reflect the color of the link by using all of the great themes that zelda games typically have. I was thinking about using some more of the OOT world with faries, Gorons, Zoras, etc. However, I think it would be more thematically appropriate to use art from LTTP. In this case:

Green: most of the light world, lost woods.
Red: Death mountain, tunnels, etc.
Blue: Zora waterfalls.
Yellow: Desert and desert palace.

Art could include walls, monsters, various objects, etc. Hell, even the bosses if they're theme appropriate would be cool.
In the middle around the ball I would like to have Agahnim. The ball will probably be backlit so it will look like the ball he shoots at you in LTTP. Lightning would also be cool :)

I'm sort of undecided near the top of the panel. If there's space, perhaps an overlay of the map? I'm also going to have 4 "admin" buttons that I would like to be able to label from the artwork.

Does anyone want to take a shot at this? In addition to mad props, I'll link to your website, resume, whatever from the blog post that will come of this. If you're in the Seattle area I can offer beer! :)

Thanks!
