Running into problems running some NeoGeo games - HELP!
« on: April 14, 2012, 10:48:18 pm »
Are these CHD games?  Trying to run Samurai Shodown (I or II would be best, but I'd take III or IV also).  I have the roms and the neogeo.zip bios in the roms dir and they don't run.  I get the message about ROM or CHD files missing.

These are my favorite fighting games, next to SFII which runs great.  Any help is appreciated, I MUST have these on my cab! :)

im not aware of any neogeo game that had chd files, you might be using the wron romset with the wrong version of mame, you need to make sure you are using the correct set. For example, if you are using the latest mame 145 i thnk, you need that romset you can not use romset for mame 101 on a 145 version of mame.

yes, I am using 145.  How do I check which romset the game is?  Should I get an older version of MAME or a newer version of the ROM?   :banghead:

if you are sure you are using mame 145 , but not sureof the romset,go get the latest roms from somewhere, cant tell you where. sorry, but when i had a problem like that  in the past , i use to hit start , then run , then type ccmd , then in the command windows i change to the mame directory  usuallyy c:\mam by typing cd c:\mame, the run mame by typing mame kof96, the if i where to have mising files i could just see there wich files i was mising, and i would just googled the files and addem to the romset, of course that was a dumb way to doit, but it worked, i know you could check the romset with clrmamepro but evetually that would lead me to go to a website to download the lates files, wich is almost the same thing. So i would say, to save some time, yes, download mame 145 o latest, then download the latest romset and you will be just fine.

Thanks for the reply!  I know where to get ROMsets, I'm not asking for that, but just needed to know how to determine which ROMs will work with which MAME.  I will try clrmamepro and the command line option you mentioned.
