Pinball admin buttons... which is the ground post?
« on: May 02, 2010, 04:18:31 pm »
I picked up a Williams/Bally 4-Button Service Assembly for my pincab.  I'm just now getting around to soldering the wires.  Which post is the common ground?

No idea myself, new to pins.

Judging by the looks of those legs, I'd say the middle ones. Why not bust out your DMM, and run continuity tests? o.0

There is no common ground. On mine I had to run a piece of wire across the middle lugs. I attached the 2 black wires to the middle outside lug and then ran the wire through and soldered it on the middle lug for each switch.

I installed mine the other day and couldn't figure it out either, I looked at one of my other pins and there was a thin piece of metal running through the middle legs. Kinda stupid setup...I just stripped some wire and put it between the middle leg holes then soldered it to where the black wires went and then soldered it in 3 spots going across the 3 other switches...

Ya I was surprised that the thin wire wasn't already on the switch. I just stripped a piece of wire back and ran it through. Was simple but more of a hassle for sure...

Thanks for the input guys.  I didn't have my DMM at the time and wasn't able to check continuity on the buttons.  I stripped a piece of wire that I use for ground and threaded it in all of the middle legs and soldered it.  The bottom legs are the NO posts just incase anyone else has to wire these.

uhm...don't you mean "normally open"?

as in when you push the button the contact between the middle and lower is established.

You are correct.  I was thinking NO, but put NC for some reason.
