SCART vs. S-Video. FIGHT!
« on: February 27, 2002, 02:22:46 pm »
Yeah I know s-video from a pc is better, but is it so much better to be worth the extra money I'll have to shell out. My PS2 and Dreamcast look pretty cool with scart to me, but then I've never seen them in action with an s-vhs tv. Any thoughts?

If you use scart in rgb mode it will look even better then s-vhs!

SCART (rgb) is techically better than S-Vid.  Although I've herd some people say they prefer playing consoles through s-vid on scart enabled TVs (versus the scart input).  Something about it looking brighter or having better contrast.

For my arcade monitor, its scart/rgb all the way.

Sorry this has nothing to do with the actual question but.. its s-video when you are talking about the type of video input not s-vhs.  S-VHS is a type of VCR.  Sorry, that has always kinda bugged me when ppl get the 2 terms mixed up.

Be warned that if you live in Australia all SCART (except on imported TVs) is actually just a composite input and *not* RGB. As SCART is a European standard it is not regularly used in Australia and as the manufacturers put TV's for multiple countries together at the same factory the ones destined for Australia use the same case, so instead of removing the SCART input they just do a half-assed job. It can still accept a SCART input but it converts it to a composite signal.
I'm not sure if this happens to other countries, but check before you commite to SCART, true SCART costs a fortune in Australia so S-Video is a more economical choice. :)

Thanks for the warning.  We Aussies are always getting the half assed equipment.

Heard they were making a SCART card for the computer. Is this true? Thanx.
