EmuTron is acting up on both my computers.
« on: May 22, 2003, 02:05:27 am »
So I've got emutron working (most of the time, man I hope you get those utilites written soon PacManFan, I'm not a good programer) from a visual standpoint; list displays, screenshots display, marquees, flyers etc. But when I go to start a game I just get dumped back to the desktop. Now, that's all on my mame machine.

On my home computer, where I do a lot of testing now because my mame computer is no longer hooked into the network, I can't even get EmuTron to start. I edited the mame.cfg file the exact same way as on the other computer, I go through the ETconfig stuff the exact same way but when I try to do the initial Import Game List, the progress box for "Loading Game Information" comes up but nothing happens. Now I only a few games but the Import works fine on my mame box and I'm just very confused about why it never gets started on this machine.

Any suggestions, solutions, or whatever would be greatly appreciated.

The import thing doesn't work at all on my computer and I have to run the front end in Win 98 compatibility mode just to keep it from crashing. It looks real pretty, but I have no way to actually get it to launch games, so it isn't very useful to me.

I tried Mamewah, but the keys in that front end are hardcoded, which also makes it useless to me (I don't use those keys). So I am still shopping for a front end.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

I've had a few reports about EmuTron and Etconfig not working correctly on XP. Set the compatibilty mode to be win98. As far as list creation goes, you might have to use Excel or something else to generate your lists in the mean time. Export the data as MS-DOS text. with just a (CR) not (CR/LF). The new version coming out resolves all these issues.

Also, check the game.log file, and see if there are any messages about why it's not starting. Any script errors are reported in there. Maybe it's something simple like a missing quote on a string.

Sorry for the inconvience, the new version will be much easier to set up and generate XML lists.
