I think you need the newest version of Mame (.63), to my understanding, its a name game added to mame 63.

Yes KI requires not only mame .63 but also ~ a 4Ghz system to run.  It sits right alongside the cruisin games as unplayable at full frame rate until hardware catches up with the mame devs  :P

Some people really should get around to coding a mame variant that uses shortcuts to make these newer games playable  ;D

Oh, and I'm aware that if I want to play killer instinct there are Edit: ULTRA64 emulators.

Why not buy the pcb board and do it LEGALLY then?

If you build a frankenpanel, chances are I don't care for you as a person.

Oh, and I'm aware that if I want to play killer instinct there are n64 emulators.

there's already a Ki/K2 that runs better on lower end systems (but with less accurate emulation)

u64

some people want the world...  *shakes head*

Just for clarification u64 is NOT a nintendo64 emulator it's an Ultra 64 emulator.  Thus the name.  It emulates the arcade versions, so there is a way for you to play the arcade versions on lesser pcs as the last poster stated.

This is one of my little pet peeves... the u64 is NOT a console it's arcade hardware that has NOTHING to do with the n64 except that it plays the arcade versions of the games.

Hehe read lower in my post I said I knew I could already run KI although not as stable as I would be able to with a super computer running mame I imagine.

It's just unfortunate that all these early to late 90s games require so much horsepower, and system requirements can only get worse. I'm 16 and I used to play in arcades before they started dying off rapidly (and replacing the FUN games that require SKILL with large expensive games that random people walk in and play). Therefore, these are the games that I grew up on. I like the classics that most hobbyists enjoy, but the arcade games that I really played and whooped people on were the 90s games like Killer Instinct, Tekken 2/3, etc. because I simply wasn't born early enough  ;D.

*Sigh* I remember when you could walk in and play a pickup game with people you didn't even know. Now I don't do that because I don't want to get taken out back and beaten up by a gang who lost all their quarters to me. The only decent arcade I live near is literally dangerous to go into now.

Well..... 16 is hardly old enough to be wanting to relive your youth. You're surprised to can't play emulated games of a few years ago? Sorry, but it's just coming off like you're greedy.

Adding brand new games to Mame will just get the project killed.

Well ki is hardly new, it came out in the mid 90's.  With that being said, if it's one of your favorites then you should really try classic fighters because quite, frankly ki and ki2 only had a cult following at best.  They tended to rip-off a lot of there gameplay ideas from another more popular series. (cough cough mk2 cough cough)  And if tekken is one of your favs then that really shows how young you are.  (And they are emulated in zinc btw, go play it and leave the mame devs alone)  There is only one 3d fighter worth playing at this point and that's mkda because as you said it requires skill and more importantly, unlike other modern fighters that depend heavily on useless, mind-numbingly long "dial-a-combos" it's still fun.    But I'm getting off topic here.

Why are ki and crusin so slow?  Because the mame devs haven't optimized the code yet.  It's as simple as that.  The mame version of ki is only slightly more accurate than the u64 version.  It should definately cut the framerates in half on most systems, but not by 10ths.  The main reason ki was added at this point was to play with the new harddrive support.

Just be paitent, it will get there eventually.

Actually the street fighter (1-3 and any alpha) series and the mk series are my favorite fighting games. Unfortunately, by my time they were phasing sf2 and mk1, my favorites, out of the arcades near me. I just didn't mention them because they are already emulated and highly playable. I remember when I was like 6 my brother (who was 15) convinced me to buy street fighter 2 for our SNES. Oh how we spent countless hours playing that thing.

And yes I am extremely young, and I'm not reliving my youth, I'm just having fun going back and remembering how arcades used to be. Reliving a memory more than anything, but that's semantics. I'm not suprised I can't play games that just came out. I'm not one of those idiots and don't treat me as such. I'm well aware that if mame started emulating new games the project would be sued and shut down. Note that I wasn't saying that I wanted more games, there are already enough games in mame to keep me occupied.

And thanks for not flaming me howard, you are the greatest  :'(

You won't see that from the MAME codebase.  MAME is designed for 100% accuracy, not speed...Your best bet is to find a specialized emulator...
Still in the collecting parts and ideas phase of cabinet building.
