Saint, if this is not a trend you want to endorse, I'll understand its removal...if you don't find a problem with it, thank you for allowing me to post it.

Here's the link to where I originally heard about this, and below, in case you can't view the forum (it's supposed to be a subscriber's forum) is the Project's purpose and how to offer your assistance, if you're so inclined.

570 KLIF host Darrel Ankarlo's wife started this....
They already hit their original goal of 1,000, but there are still plenty more soldiers out there serviing

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS - PROJECT CAMELBAK

BOOST MORALE, SHOW THEM WE CARE

Thanks to you we made it to our goal of 1000 - but there are over 130,000 men and women serving in Iraq. Please continue to support Project Camelbak so that no one will be left unequipped.

PURPOSE:
The Parent Group for the 31st MEU intends to send camelbaks to our Military serving in the Middle East.

GOAL:
To purchase a minimum of 1,000 camelbaks. Your donation of $35 will provide 1 Camelbak.(This is a special price - the retail value is about $70)

REASON:
Camelbaks are water reservoirs that you wear on your back. It has a tube that extends to the front so one can drink from them. The weather in the Middle East varies from mild to cool winters with dry, hot cloudless summers to tropical and arid deserts. A camelback would ensure proper hydration while freeing their arms to maintain tactical readiness. A camelback is very useful and much needed equipment by our Military. It is not standard issue.

TIME LINE:
It is our hope to have the camelbaks delivered in early December. They will be distributed as a Christmas gift from the American People.

HOW TO:
Make checks payable to Camelbak Products. Mail to:
Camelbak Products, Inc.
1310 Redwood Way, Ste. C
Petaluma, CA 94954

Please note - important information:
In the memo portion of your check - write Project Camelback Account Number 19597.[/b]

Ok, now how do we know that our money is actually being used properly and to whom do they get sent? All I see is that these "Camelbak Products, Inc." people are gonna get about $35,000.

Interesting.  I thought Camelbaks were issued to the troops in desert regions.  Mine was, and I was on an Aircraft Carrier.  I still use it.

I don't believe in charity.  I think the soldiers should pull themselves up by their bootstraps and buy their own camelbaks.

While I definately won't go that far there is another issue at hand.

Our taxes pay for the Soldier's gear.  As stated above... they should be standard issue.  If some of the soldiers aren't getting them then the solution is to pressure the goverment into making sure they do, NOT making a third-party company, disguised as a charity, a fortune.   I know I should see the good in people, but I'm sorry, this deal seems shadier than the old "online arabian prince"  spam scam.

I'll second the other's thoughts on this matter.  The gov't usually makes sure their soldiers are well equipped.  ESPECIALLY when it comes to food and water.  This really doesn't make much sense.

I'm one for removing this thread altogether.

I'm good with that.  I never expected it to be stickied, and was pleasantly surprised at both the sticky and the length of time it's been up.  I'd rather see it fade off the front page and into forum oblivion on its own, though.
