Minwah, getting close?
« on: August 30, 2004, 01:34:00 pm »
I'm not trying to rush at all. I was just wondering how the new version of MW is coming along. I cant wait!
Take as long as you need, the trackball menu support  alone will be worth it! :)
Thanks for a great frontend and all of your hard work!

Since it is a biggie, I am doing more testing than normal, and have a couple of helpers.  ETA if all goes well is next week (w/c 6th Sept) :)

Good question Walls.   I've just now finished setting it all up and am in the process of making my own skin,  I'm curious about what impact the new version will have on my current setup.  Hopefully the skins will carry over as well as user settings.

I didnt realize trackball support is also a feature of the new MW.  Does this mean that joystick support within MAMEwah will be added too?  That would almost be too much!!  Here's hoping.

It already has joystick support, that is if you mean navigation with the joystick.

Good question Walls.   I've just now finished setting it all up and am in the process of making my own skin,  I'm curious about what impact the new version will have on my current setup.  Hopefully the skins will carry over as well as user settings.

Main features include:

Totally new config system, which means re-configuring  :( ....but for the last time - config files will auto-update from now on :)
Sound / music code re-written and improved with new features,
Movie support (intro/exit, previews, screensaver),
Fully configurable input system to allow multiple keypresses/combinations, mouse & PC joystick device support, and some new navigation features.

Doesn't look a lot there, but 50% of whats now in MAMEWAH is now totally new or re-written...

Due to the massive differences to previous versions, I will recommend you install to a fresh directory.  While you will have to re-setup your emulators & general settings, as I said above it should be for the last time.  Layouts will still be compatible, but you'll have to rename some files.

Minwah, is the config system more like mamewahconfig now? That would be very nice.

Had a few setbacks at the weekend (hard drive trouble, losing temper and beer swilling), and I'm losing a couple of nights this week :(

But I'm determined to get it out there this week...

BTW does anyone know of any good (free) installer packages? (edit: found one :) )
