3darcade / Emulaxian 0.91 released and some fun new environments!

A very big update this time! Some of the new features:

-Support for lightmaps for subtle light and shadows effects. VoodooScience put these to great use in his fantastic Voodoo Lounge arcade which features a kareoke bar,  a bowling alley, a bar with pool tables, a movie theatre and more! Pics here:
http://3darcade.mameworld.net/arcades/vslounge/vslounge.html

-Several enhancements to the cylarcade menutype which amongst other things makes a whole new kind of console/computer skins possible. See Deniros ingenious Commodore 64 skin as an example. Pics here:
http://3darcade.mameworld.net/skins/c64_deniro/c64_deniro.html

-New magic cabs (see faq on the forum how to use them), new dummy marquees options, better handling of user errors and more see what is new:

Is the Voodoo Lounge arcade available for download anywhere on the website?  I have seen the pictures, but is the arcade file itself available anywhere?
Thanks.

The beta is on the forum..I decided not to put it on the arcades download page just yet because there is a small issue with some lights showing up that shouldnt...which is already solved, naming issue caused by a german max version ;-), but will mean that all parts have to be exported again from max...so probably within a few days :-)

Great job Peter - as I've stated before, this front end is the greatest and so is Peter.  If you are looking around for a front end, you have to check this one out!

Thanks Rebirth! :-)

But lets not forget its not just me that makes this thing!

Take for example Deniros fantastic c64 "skin". When I first made cylarcade years ago. I think it even predates the ultracade wheel interface. I envisioned it being able to do console cylarcade skins like that. But I never got around actually making a "skin" like that. Then D took it upon him and what he did with it and with the amount of detail he put in it...no way I could have done it better myself :-)

(By the way the fpsarcade environment in it is also fun and it tells a story...ask yourself who are you and what are you doing there at such a late hour after closingt time ;-) )

Its now available in the arcades section. But be warned it still needs a lot of optimization and therefore a fast pc. Also the amount of of big textures is very very big...lots of vram needed too...

here are vids of the c64 skin and the vslounge arcade in action, especially notice the cheesy music in the c64 skin ;-):

This FE looks crazy, can't wait to give it a shot.

One question, my cab has a 25" or so TV in it and it's not yet operational so I'm wondering how this FE looks on a TV set. Anyone have expierence?

Actually...that's a REALLY good question.  I'm in the same boat with the TV (wasn't until 2 mos. ago that I bought a computer that could handle 3darcade for my cab).   Any opinions out there?

Most cab users of the fe use it with a tv or arcade monitor. I never heard complaints of the picture quality on tv's. The fe can resize itself to the desktop resolution automatically.

It also works ok with ultimarcs arcadevga card but you'll need the new low-poly models for bigger fps arcades because it uses an older ati chipset for 3d. (Baraka, one of the main model contributers, uses one...big incentive for him to come up with faster rendering models ;-) )

I personally tried it with s-vhs and using rgb-scart and both looked ok. Although the rgb-scart looked a bit better because no color ghosting at all.

It looks great on a monitor and I think it'll do fine on my TV now that I've played with it a bit.

My only concern is that the game description in the fpsarcade (year, company, and all that) may be a bit small to be easily viewable on my TV. Is there a particular setting to increase the font size for those? I'll look around tonight.

I've now seen first hand what it can do to a crappy 3d chipset. :) My testbed that I'm using right now has an old P4 SiS integrated graphics chipset sharing 32mb of RAM and 3darcade eats it alive!! Only gets worse with Scarpino's arcade over the default one. That's ok though, I look forward to the arrival of my midlevel 9200SE w/128MB dedicated. We'll see who eats who then! :)

Your program looks fantastic, it's exactly what I was looking for in a FE and I didn't even know it!

go into skinner mode with the page up key > double click the message sprite to popup the details sprite options > change the font > close skinner mode by hitting page up again

Holy Crap! that Commodore "room" is awesome! I love it! I am gonna have to try that out!

Voodoo Lounge is cool, but what the hell do you do in the cinema or in the bar? Just walk in and look around? Also, can you actually use the bowling alley? That would be cooool!

Maybe in the bar you can select music on a jukebox? or in the cinema launch any video files you may have in a directory?

Cool stuff man. 3dArcade has come a long way. Can't wait to see what's next!

-the monitors above the bowling lanes ar triggers to launch bowling games.
-vs designed that bar as a kareoke bar for those music games to put in there. yes you can put a jukebox in the bar and select playlists on it. But the vslounge has to optimised a bit before it is really useful...i had to remove some of the posters to get the framerates you see in the video...it uses an insane amount of big textures ;-)

I downloaded 3dArcade last night and spent 2 hours just walking around the demo rooms and downloading the 3d Cabinets to go into the arcade.

If you haven't tried this prog then DO IT! I really like MAMEWah, but this is sooo beautiful it's hard not to use it.

Yeah, only problem is i have like 1300 games in my mamewah list...you will not be able to have that big of a 3d arcade! LOL. So, what can you do? I might setup a 3darcade for just my fav classics. Something I wonder though, is it possible to be inside an arcade with the favorite 100 cabs, but then also have a way to bring up a menu with the full text list of all games? Or maybe you walk upto a "PC" in the 3darcade and on the screen is a text list or something that you can actually scroll through to launch?

Sorry if this is already done..just thinking out loud. I haven't tried the newer version of 3darcade yet. But I am defiantely gonna check it out. Hopefully my 1ghz pc can handle it!

yes the 3darcade can show just a portion of the complete list you can switch to in list and cylarcade/wheel mode. All menutypes are just different views of the same list. Also its possible to put list like menu's on models...ie select vectrex games directly on the vectrex monitor.
Imho for most cab purposes just a simple text list is the best solution...and the fpsarcade is just a nice bonus for occasional nostalgic trips ;-)
