What kind of deals are at SuperAuctions??
« on: May 03, 2004, 04:28:29 pm »

I am thinking about going to the superauctions.com auction in Atlanta in a few weeks.

But what I need to know is what kind of deals can you get there, since its a 3 hour drive for me. Would it be worth it?

I also wanted to check on getting some cheap games for my church. They wanted to build a "youth activity" room or something and I thought a few CHEAP games in there would be perfect. Nothing big name like Galaga or Pacman, just some cheapie stuff. How much would they be? and what could I get?

Thanks in advance

There will be a disclaimer to follow, but....they have one coming up this Saturday that I'm going to.  The last one I went to, I just checked it out for future reference, and this one, I'm taking along some helpers in case I find something good (and they have some things in mind to look for also).

That being said, I KNOW[/i] that it will depend on the area and just what is put up for auction, so my info may not be the same as what you will experience.  If you wish, I will post what I saw sometime after I get back from the auction.

Anyone going to the auction in Milwaukee, WI @ State Fair Park on Saturday looking to give away some old space-waster the wife wants out of the house, let me know.  I'll meet you there...transporting it away will NOT be a problem for me.  If it's better off being burned, give it to someone else, but I've got everything ready to go into it and give it a good home.  :D

You can definitely find some great deals at superauctions if you are looking for a mame cab. At the one in Dallas I picked up a non-working Dragons Lair cab( had been converted to a silkworm) for only a dollar. They had a dozen cabs that went for $5 dollars or less. I would have picked up more but I could only fit one cab in my Montero. To get the deals you really need to stick around until the end of the auction. My also friend picked up a Mr. Do cocktail for $75.

You can find working ones there too. Classics like Pac-man, galaga etc. went for $600-1200 depending on the condition here in dallas. The others varied by the condition. I almost got a Working Blood Bros. for $20. I held out too long hopeing the price would drop further and someone else got it.  :'( I guess it depends on what you are looking for and how much you are willing to spend. I would recommend going because they also have other stuff there: jukeboxes, pool tables, kiddie rides, and slot machines. The first couple of hours are for viewing so you could play some free games and decide if there is anything you want to hang around and bid on.

That Mr Do cocktail for $75 was a working one :D  even better it was in a midway cocktail cab (better for me anyway)

It's all different prices.  the classics always seem to go high and the more obscure the title you want the less it will be.  One week a  Tron went for $300 bucks the next week one similar went for $1200.

I am on the lookout for a pinball and those are always WAY expensive.  So I guess maybe I'll just stay with the $1 junk cabs and mame to my hearts content.

I go to auctions all the time.  It's a great way to feed the habit. If you like video games at all, you can find some that work for less than $50. Cabs and junk sell cheap, $5-$15.

Classics, no.  they go pretty good.  Nice new ones, no, but cheaper than ordering a new one.  But if you want parts, it's worth it.  You can play the old games all day and talk with lots of people.  I learn something new every time I go.

I am going to Knoxville this weekend to sell some games and buy some junk. I usually part out nasty cabs and rebuild some that are worth it.  I bring them back and sell them working.  It's fun for the whole family.

I want to go to the Atlanta sale on the 22nd too.  I hear they have some pretty good deals.

Bring cash and an extension cord.

Where do you live?

Mebbe I kin hep ya.  I may or may not have a truck going there, but I can easily GET one, and a trailer, if need be, within an hour....just gotta head to work and pick 'em up.

Let me know where you need to get any purchases to, and quick-like, it's only a day away!

If you feel like paying me, I'll accept a dart machine they're sure to be selling there  ;D :D

This offer extends to anyone going there.  Just let me know where you live....I do have limits to how far I'll drive for ya!  I also MAY have a time constraint I will be working around (gotta pick up wife from work, but will be heading back after that)

ROAD TRIP!
With my dart machine (that you purchased for me, of course) securely in the bed of my truck, I, in fact, WOULD be willing to head your way!

I missed seeing them auction off the dart machines last time I went, but I checked them out NEW, and they CAN'T go for that much, so I figure I may be looking to pick one up tomorrow.  Depends on prices, but I see one of them coming home with me.

I got gas money to, ill bring some ice cold coca colas for the road and ill throw in my sword in case you need to call on me for a blood omen our some payback for the dragons that destroyed your village.

Ho much do used dart machines go for curiosity sake? And also, are you just talking about delivering me a game you pick up at an auction our bringing me along for the ride so i can check it out and hopefully get you a used dart machine for $50 and me a badass cabinet with a fat 80" monitor for a $1. Am i being to optimistic?  :)

Where are you from anyway drew?

I'm from WI, Greenfield, to be exact.  I'm familiar with IL, used to live in Hanover Park for a bit, and worked in Peoria....too many Bears fans, though....had to get back to the land of milk and....CHEEZ!

I'd never buy a game for someone....what's that saying, one man's trash is another man's treasure?  I may buy what I think is an awesome deal, and it's nothing but a fat stinky turd to you!  I'm actually thinking of heading down to Happ's sometime soon on a weekend for a spending spree.  That'd probably be the best opportunity for me to help out a fellow gamer from IL.

The dart machines, I didn't get to stick around to price at the last auction, but they were selling a Valley @ the local shoppe for ~$1200.  I was kinda hoping to get one for $50, but I'm thinking they're gonna go for quite a bit more than that....we'll see.

I don't think you'd get that steal of the century on that 80" monitor package for $1.  I'd prolly bid $2 and steal it from ya!  ;D

I just got back from raiding all the local Radio Shack's with the free $5, so now I'll be looking for a beater game to Mame, and only a steal of a deal dart machine

Dart machines vary quite a bit, the cheapest seems to be "English Mark Darts" with the small 9" monochrome monitor in it. I bought one that wouldn't power up for $25 (and the working ones were going at $125ish). Fixed the machine the same day (actually it was never broken, for some reason you just have to toggle the power switch twice for it to come up).

They had 1 that sold for $35, 4 or 5 that sold for $150, one for $225, and one for $500.  Chepest one didn't work, the rest of them were in various states of working, the two most expensive of them were newer, fully working, just different states of quality.

They had TONS (well, tons, IMO) of cabs that sold from $10-75 range.  Turbo's and Pole Positions were selling in the $100-150 range, an Off Road sold for $250, and all the 6-in-1's sold for $575-675.   I picked up a Time Pilot in decent shape for $75.  It SHOULD have been $50, but I got a good deal, nonetheless.  OT, it was working perfectly when there, but after I got it home, the monitor is now "jittery" all over.  Not enough to disrupt gameplay, but it IS annoying!  Most EVERYTHING sold in the $300-600 range, with average pricing around $500.

A Gauntlet Legends that I thought was in MINT condition went for $750, and a few others (5-6 or so) went for around the $650 range.  A Skins Game sold for $1150, and that's about all for the notable games.  Cocktails sold around $500-600, which someone told me was normal.  I was STUNNED to hear that, and after reading some of Paige's posts, realized I was a complete and total IDIOT not to have bought a cocktail at the last auction I went to.

At the last auction I went to, they had 5 cocktails (1 pacman and 4 ms pacman's) not ONE of which sold for over $160!  They sold a non-working Ms Pac for $95, which, as soon as it was sold, started up immediately.  Not knowing, at that time, if that was a good deal, I passed on each of them..my caboose is sore from kicking it!

Other good deals....4 pool tables sold for the sum total of....$275.  $135 for the one with a complete set of balls & 4 cues, the rest, $45, 50, & 45 each.  The "puck" bowling games sold for ~$400 each.  I believe "Mr Do-rag" bought his own machine back, but someone would have to describe him to me better than "he wears a do-rag".

On the plus side, I picked up an empty driving cab for $2, and 4 PC's w/monitors for what I thought was $5, but ended up being charged only $2 for ALL FOUR, each of 'em working.  Nothing special, they're all 166Mhz, but now I've got a jukebox PC, a Vantage PC for the kids, a Vantage PC for my buddy who helped me move my Time Pilot, and a parts machine!  Oh yeah, the driving cab had the pedal left, so tomorrow, I'm gonna pull it off and see what goes on in there.  Mebbe I'll have a new idea on how to make one.

All in all, I wish I would have had a grand to spend (woulda came home with two pool tables, a puck bowler, a dart board, a soda fountain dispenser w/ice bin, and three more $50-75 games.

Ron Jeremy!  LOL The wispy ratty greasy hair and everything!  Well, well!  Indeed, 'twas HIM who was there, and that was the guy....during inspection time he was moving a puck to his machine and I asked him if it was his machine...he said yeah, and later, like I said, he bought his own machine back!  His was the third one sold....mebbe he didn't like the prices they were selling for...whatever.

At least now, I know to look out for him at future auctions.  Why the heck wouldn't the guy at least change his appearance once in a while, since everyone knows of him?!

never bid on the first 10 games

How come?  Trying to get some auction tips for when I go next year :)

the first 10 or so games always auction off for a ton more money than the others. Auction newbies get really excited and spend spend spend. I saw a popeye in some lame conversion cab, and it wasn't even working correctly. 4th game autioned off and it went for $650.oo   :o

Perfect example of that....a Pit Boss they put in a little stand-up cab with a FINGER PAINTED marquee and f'ed up monitor went for $250-300.  This thing was in such bad shape I thought it'd sell for MAYBE $50.  Same game, better cabinet, and perfect monitor later down the line sold for $165.
