Anyone know of a free website creator?
« on: January 27, 2004, 10:34:56 pm »
Anybody know of some website creation software, that's free?  I would like to make a nice looking website, and while I have a little knowledge of html, I do not have enough knowledge to make a very nice looking web page.  I figure it's probably out there, I just can't find it.  Thank you for the help.

That question is a bit vague because there are several languages that you can use to create a website and also lots of programas that help ya using them! There's programs that only check one programming language syntax and others that check various languages!

I use Ace HTML editor 4.0 wich is not free but ya can use it for a 30 day trial.

Crimson editor, i used this program during my trainee in a webdomains company seller, this program is free but not very user-friendly!

Macromedia Dreamweaver is the most user-friendly program that i know for that kinda purpose! I can also crac...  :-X

Macromedia Flash for animated websites!

It's a matter of searching, i'm sure that there's lots of them over the web!

Once again, the Open-Source software (Sticky) topic comes to mind, make an effort and ask Saint to make it sticky!  ;D

I've always used Netscape's Composer (now part of Mozilla).  It's pretty good, and 100% free.

Well, you aren't going to get that nice of a website without knowledge of HTML and Graphic Design.

You can use some Templates....Ace HTML is great program, and you can download a 30 day trial for free. Same with Dreamweaver.

Without skills, you won't get a great site. Sorry. It just doesn't work that way. Computers dont design, people do.

Good luck though!  8)

I use Notepad, Wordpad, KWord...but then again, I know HTML fairly well.

It's not hard.  Just pop open a page you like and sneak a peek at the source.  Then copy it.  ;)

You're right, I won't get a great looking site, but I was able to get a pretty good looking one with Actual Drawing  The problem was, all the buttons and everything had a big ugly watermark saying "demo".

I'll see if I can find Ace HTML

If a free HTML editor is what you need, there is 1st page 2000 version 2.0 free edition, that is completely free at this adress:  http://www.evrsoft.com/.  It is a complete package including over 450+ Javascripts and supports all the latest web languages.   Worth a try in my opinion.  They are currently working on version 3.0, but i don't know if that version will stay free however.

Another free option for an editor is Arachnophilia, at:  http://www.arachnoid.com/arachnophilia/.  That one is java based, so it can run on any platform.

Myself, I am a registered user of Coffeecup HMTL editor, which can be found at:  www.coffecup.com. They have a shareware version.  If I didn't have this one however, I'd be using 1st page 2000, which is working great.

You could always use templates, as someone else said earlier.  Good places for free ones are:

http://www.freesitetemplates.com/
http://www.weballey.net/templates/
http://www.freewebtemplates.com/
http://www.yruonline.com/  (this one has both free and $$$ ones)

Hope this helps

I use Arachnaphilia quite a bit.  It is a very good program.

I used to use it exclusively, until I got access to Dreamweaver through work.
