Why an XBox didn't plug into a VGA monitor out of the box is still beyond me...

I bet they had to go out of their way to remove the feature...

then all xbox-vga adapters are just getting your vga to look like a TV...

notice... you will probably get worse output (more pixelated) then a TV.  UNLESS you can use the HDTV stuff through your VGA (they mentioned about 85% was it that could?).  But it will NOT be higher resolution...

So I would find out what the resolution for the HDTV 1080i (or whatever) and see if your monitor handles it...  If not, I would guess this is a waste.

Actually you are correct.  Micro$oft when to great lengths to make sure the xbox was not to be perceived as a simple PC (which it is).  They still don't support a keyboard or mouse, even though it would help lots of the software sales of FPS games.

As for the Xbox VGA box linked...I emailed this company when the product first debuted (was mentioned in xbox magazine).  Its a true component to rgb transcoder.  Just as good as the xbox vga transcoder/adapter Ken Gasper was making for the xboxhacker.net site for about the same price...but this one looks like it has all the bells and whistles (including a 480i upscanner)!

This is a MUST buy!!!.....I can't tell you how amazing this box works on my VGA monitor.

I have another convertor that I picked up for almost as much a few month ago. The images were grey/muddy....and sucked.

This one works exactly as advertised. I have a VGA Box for Dreamcast and this one works just as well.

I purchased mine directly from the manufacturer in China....their follow up and delivery went very smoothly.

This is well worth the bucks!

Seriously. Will it fit in my basement or what?

With a chipped xbox you can hack your own cable and run software to output to vga there are tut's on how to do it at http://xbox-scene.com/ there are also reviews there to some of the different VGA boxes.

My statements are my own opinions. They have the value that the reader gives them. My opinion of my opinion varies between foolish and brilliant and these opinions often change with new information.

I did set all teh dip switches correctly and everything but still getting the redish tone..

Also, regular vga monitors can display 480P right ?
I am trying to use my nec multi sync monitor, tried other monitor too(the one I am on now) and still red.

try using a diffferent component cable (or any 3 prong cable)...I had a similar problem with the one that came with my original xbox HD adapter...one line had a short in it...or at least if I twist it a certain way.  I tried swapping the y/pr/pb around and saw it would change to a blue tint.  Swapped out the cable and all is fine.

The dashboard is all green, so you won't notice any problem if your blue is missing (which would give it a red tint).  And yes any monitor should work for you.

My question to you is, can you try playing games in 480I mode (where it is upscanning)...wondering how good/bad that looks.  Reason being Kung Fu Chaos doesn't play in 480P  :(  and my XRGB-2 upscanner just broke.

no this box doesnt use any component, its just like a dc vga box.
It looks great man, just like dc except the red tint.

Games are not playable in 480I.Blurry and screen is bigger then usual. But only 5 games doesnt support 480P.

maybe i got a defective unit or something :(

Think its a good idea to open it up and take a look ?
I am pretty much screwed if I do because it clearly says opening the box will void the warrenty... :P

I wouldn't open up the box just yet.  Look closely at the plug and make sure all the pins extend all the way.  Its clear the "Pb" (blue) line isn't making a connection or has a short in the line somewhere (try twisting the cable around).  So you can't call them and send back for a replacement?

Hi Snnaaakkkkeeee.....

I'm really sorry I didn't get back to you I forgot about this posting !

Any way I'm glad you got it all worked out. It's so amazing  that I really can't understand why Microsoft doesn't endorse/sell one?

You have to try out Apex; Mortal Combat; and Tao Fang (the arcade level is so amazing in high res that you can make out the "games" playing on all of the cab screens.

Enjoy!
The MameMaster!
