When I read posts by pbj, I envision him to be the guy in his previous icon - the alcoholic clown slob guy, slumped with the wife beater (if I recall correctly).  I found it amusing, yet creepy.  One of those things that's just etched in my brain.  That said, I enjoy his straightforward approach.  He calls it like he sees it.  Kudos pbj.

The guy in this 'poster' remind me of Baba Booey.

Apparently Jim only has 207 posts currently. What a noob!

Seriously, though, that is weird. Glitch? Self-deletion?  :dunno

The entire Konkey Dong thread seems to be gone: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=113417.120 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=113417.120)

Meltdown !

I hate when people go all 'ahigh' and kill their posts.  ::)

Really? Didn't know you could "kill" your posts, and PBJ didn't seem like the sensitive type... He's still been logging in since I noticed this.

Is it possible someone else has his password and did this?
Title: Re: pbj?
Post by: Hoopz on November 05, 2012, 10:46:07 am
Seems like it would take awhile to start flushing ~8,000 posts.

Did he lock the threads he started in B/S/T or was that done by a mod?  I recall seeing them last week or within the last 10 days or so.

Maybe, but someone would have to have a grudge and I think we all know that would be impossible.

He did that himself to keep them on track- I was curious too. But that was before the mass post disappearance.

I assume this is going to be like the movie The Forgotten where eventually one of us will be trying to convince the others that he existed at all. "There was an iguana... and Konkey Dong... and... and... I know he was real!!!!"

If you look at your post in this thread in the top right corner of the post itself, do you see three boxes to quote, modify and remove the post?  Maybe its a theme issue.

Odd.  I have to make sure I hit the right button in the NFL Pick Em thread to make sure that I don't nuke the whole thing when I try and edit the OP.

It was an issue a few years ago with a few people getting sand in uncomfortable places and making a spectacle of themselves.  Maybe Saint changed a default setting somewhere.

Well taking a rest is certainly a healthy thing and with all due respect pbj could really use one judging by his posts the last year or so.  But deleting all your posts.... that's more like a "screw you guys!  I'm going home!" move if you ask me.  You wouldn't do that if you intended to come back.

Was there a blow up in PnR or something? I'm kind of curious about what spurred his exodus.

Well, since he left but still lurks (seems to log on several times a day), I think it is only fair to speculate about what he is doing now. I am guessing he has started cooking meth, Breaking Bad style, and is complaining about WeeCades on some meth forum.

The sad part is if there was a remote possibility that PBJ actually posted anything useful, then they're gone now. I did kind of think his thread regarding soldering irons, tips and soldering smd components was rather useful. At least Randy though enough of it that he took some of that advice.

Really, the ability to delete posts or whole threads should be removed or timed out in some fashion. This kind of ---That which is odiferous and causeth plants to grow--- nonsense is just like him.

True that.  One of the problems I've always had with the guy is he rarely contributes anything useful to a thread (everything else and pnr don't count of course as they are off topic).  Removing the few things that WERE helpful..... kind of a dick move if you ask me.

I would like to think that the stuff we say here, the good and the bad, is saved for future generations of BYOAC'ers so that something could actually be learned from our discussions.  Being able to delete a thread that's years old seems to go against the whole spirit of the site.  I suggest a time limit for deletion... anything older than, let's say two months, should be permenant.

The shepard is gone and now all of you sheep are lost?

For every good thing the guy posted there were 25 bad things to go with it.

All he really ever did around here was berate and criticize people.

This forum is a better place without him.

Maybe some of the people he has scared off will start to come back.

Who wants to post on a forum where some bully makes fun of you for your thoughts and opinions....RIP   ???

Believe it or not I agree with this.  I don't feel like finding a new nemesis.  Malenko tries but he's just not the same quality of weirdo that pinballjim can be.  BOYAC's community loyalty applies to the ---uvulas--- too.

Jim did have some good tutorials in the pinball section.  It's a shame to see those go.  He seems to have some sort of  manic issues.  One week he's posting a great tutorial on cheap fixes for old drop targets and the next he's spending a bit too much time photoshopping things to taunt people.

I hope he's okay in his personal life.

I thought schmokes was our backup ---uvula---, XuiceBox was the retard, and  you are the just the blow hard?  Fine fine, I'll take the kid gloves off. Being witty and being an ---uvula--- arent always the same thing, but I'll do what I can to fill the void. Can I still like Weecades?

I will see if there's a mod for that. I can either allow people to delete or not, but even if they can't delete they can just modify the contents of the post to remove them. I can remove the ability to modify threads, but that's useful to have. I'll see what mods are out there.

Here is an interesting proposal for the thread:

What you post on this site (or any other) does not belong to you after you press the send button.

It belongs to the owner of the site, as the owner is responsible for your posts.

So by default if you delete your posts you should get permission from the owner first.

No, its not someone's right to delete their posts.  This is Saint's forum and he can set whatever rules he wants.  As such, Saint can make any member follow his rules or ban them.
Title: Re: pbj?
Post by: saint on November 09, 2012, 07:29:04 am
Interesting dilemma. The rule of thumb I try to follow is if it's just something personal or of no value to the community, if someone wants to nuke something so be it. If however someone nukes information that is of value to the community, and/or breaks a thread by pulling out something that was then replied to and it doesn't make sense without the deleted content, then I think it should be put back/remain.

If someone has a real compelling reason, legal/personal issues for example, I'm not insensitive and I won't get in their way. I've changed someone's name and/or deleted their account at their request in the past for such issues for instance.

In this case, barring information to the contrary, it looks like someone nuking things from orbit on their way out. Don't know what/why, and if he wants to tell me something he knows how to get ahold of me.

Quote
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Saint has more right to controlling the content of the forum he owns than the individual users.  The first amendment protects them both [somewhat] from the government having a say in the matter.

Uh, what are the terms of service on something like that?  I feel like if the board gives the option to delete  or change your own post, and someone does it, maybe it shouldn't be reversed without communicating with them.  When you reinstate, are you concentrating on information posts and filtering out snarky comments?  Even though I work from home and am mostly my own boss, I am sensitive about what I post because it's not that hard to link back to me.  I don't try to hide my identity/location/line of work.  I try to refrain from immature or controversial content (except with regard to Arnel Pineda.)  I assume everything I post is on the internet forever.  However, the rulebook needs to be clear IMO.  Add it to the terms that your input belongs to the forum after 30 days or something.  forgive me if this is already covered in the forum rules, I didn't go back and check.

I'm not sure that PBJ shouldn't be grandfathered in and his/her posts left deleted if he took the time to do so, prior to updated rules.  It would be easier to evaluate if he would make a quick post with his reasoning, but that's his/her choice.  I agree that it's annoying to have your own threads confused by deleted posts.  I generally prefer BYOAC with a side of PBJ, even though he's said some dumb stuff that pissed me off.  Generally I have been entertained and sometimes even enlightened.

Maybe he hid some sort of secret message in his posts, a kind of covert metapuzzle. He was just waiting for us to figure it out and win his hidden fortune. We took to long, and didn't realize that "$20 cash in hand" roughly decrypts to "here is where I stashed the Illuminati treasure hoard." Fools, all of us!

Generally on a forum the TOS is whatever the owner wants it to be and is subject to change as the owner sees fit.  This is not a democracy nor is it a free service.  In fact this forum is probably fairly expensive but saint pays for it himself and presumably with the small amount of ad revenue and donations.  saint does have the right to change rules as unexpected user activities occur.  I've been here a long time now and I have never seen him abuse that right nor make an obviously selfish or unfair ruling.

Absent any communication from pinballjim I don't see a viable alternative to restoring his posts.  There are too many of them and the integrity of a thousand threads has been thrown off.  IMO it is in the best interest of the forum to restore pinballjim's posts given the lack of notice or apparent reasoning behind their removal.

Possible, but I'm going with the "he's just a tool" theory.  How many new members did he insult and they thought everyone here is like that?  Don't let the door hitcha...

So with the mods restoring the posts he wanted deleted, and him not being signed on for the past few days, I'm assuming PBJ is lockouted somehow to prevent him from deleting those restored posts...

requiring approval to delete a post over x amount of days old sounds like a pretty good idea. as you said Saint, removing information on a site dedicated to helping others is only leaving other high and dry.

It's akin to the post where the person has an issue EXACTLY like yours and then later has a post "NEVER MIND I FIGURED IT OUT"

Generally on a forum the TOS is whatever the owner wants it to be and is subject to change as the owner sees fit.

Besides, if PBJ was that much of a tool, he could do what that moron whatever-lame-name-of-the-week and build his own damn site that no one ever visits.

Aww, I liked pbj. He was a nice dose of reality now and again. The world isn't all lollipops and butterflies, and pbj helped break the monotony of all the passive-aggressiveness and forced praise going on around here.

If it weren't for Jim, I wouldn't be selling encoders here. I do have to say that as a solid contribution of his. The guy did have plenty insight on pinball, too. But honestly, I think a lot of his help was simply in his wise ass comments. It might have scared a few people, but I can recall a number of times where he was blunt enough that people decided to take a cheaper or easier route. And after he made his point, he usually would shut up about it.  :lol

IMO, it is probably worth trying to restore his pinball board posts and let the rest sink to oblivion if that is a possibility. Most his other help was situational anyway. I'll be fine keeping his semi-offensive yet humorous comments as a memory.

I belive so.  He talked about co-workers.  Pretty sure it was present tense because he'd use phrases like "we had a guy around here who would".

I'm on BYOAC so much because I'm on while at work.

Conspiracy theorists suggest that PBJ is in reality a government spy (which government has not been revealed yet.)
Also, PBJ does not stand for Pin Ball Jim, as we have all been lead to believe, but is actually code word for "Peanut Butter Jelly".
Thats what the theorists say anyway.

Family Guy - It's Peanut Butter Jelly Time!!! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XYrqYVialk#)

I was looking through some older threads tonight.  A few of them were ones where PBJ had deleted his posts.  It made for some disjointed reading at times.  Almost like you were hearing only one side of a conversation.

Hey, shut up. No you shut up. No you shut up.
Shut up. Well, you're the one talking.
But there's no one else here.
Look, everyone just shut up!.......uh, what's that??
The wind?

Things are different around here, the themes, PBJ is gone, in a weird way, and the Steelers are arguably the worst team in the league. How the hell are you man?! :)
