I noticed this lot:
and Raiden IV are now working for domestic PC's
Anyone tried them out yet?
-
Yes , I tested almost all of them.
The only thing is that you need a vertical oriented screen for vertical shooters (i tried to rotate the screen with irotate or my nvidia drivers but it doesn't work on my CRT screen). There are few more games like KOF XIII, KOF Maximum Impact Regulation missing from you list.

Street Fighter IV with 2nd player keyboard support, no intros, no login, & no extra menus to confuse my guests?
:applaud:
(It's a shame the version Capcom sold me required so many patches and hacks just to get it to work on a cab)

It works here, but I have to insert credits and start the game before the video starts, video hangs but audio continues if I let the intro vid play.
do you get that too? if not, do you have any codecs installed?

Haven't tried it yet. (in the process of downloading them now)
I'll let you know.
If it does the same thing on my system, I'll write an autohotkey script to launch it, insert credits & press start.
-
I haven't tried street fighter IV, mostly because the arcade version is missing characters compared to the home version.

No, this version does not have 2 player support.

Ok I'll ask the dumb question.
What is this exactly? Disc images from the real arcade machines... arcade ports? More info please.

The only thing is that you need a vertical oriented screen for vertical shooters (i tried to rotate the screen with irotate or my nvidia drivers but it doesn't work on my CRT screen).
If I rotate before launching the game it works, but stretches the game fullscreen, so everything is super wide.
It might not look so bad on a 4:3 monitor.
If I launch it without rotating, it works fine, but everything is sideways. Guess it would be a good time to have a rotating monitor.
It would be nice to figure out how to run it in a sized window.

Works fine here, other than there being no P2 :'(

Do these save backup data to the same drive letter as Blazblue:Continuum Shift? (I think it was D)

Ok I'll ask the dumb question.
What is this exactly? Disc images from the real arcade machines... arcade ports? More info please.
The arcade hardware was off the shelf PC parts running windows xp.
I'm not sure what kind of protection was in place or how these files differ from what was on the original hard drive.
Must be at least some amount of hackery.
These are done exactly the same way as Blazbue: Continuum Shift which made the rounds a while back.
I'd read more had been cracked, but they were difficult to find until now.
Someone seems to have assembled a collection and passed it around. :)
-
That's simultaneously cool for us (some of these games don't play nice with mame cabs or just flat out aren't available in the US) and bad for the industry.
That being said I sure hope the new pengo and pacman arcade games get dumped... pretty sure they run on pc-based systems as well.
-
If the games are rendered in a standard window then it should be possible to re-size the window via the windows api. The question is if the game itself with recognize the siz echange and render accordingly.
-
If I rotate before launching the game it works, but stretches the game fullscreen, so everything is super wide.
It might not look so bad on a 4:3 monitor.
The strange thing is that i managed to run the games rotated on my lcd, but somehow it doesn't work on the 4:3 CRT TV (it doesn't crash but just runs it rotated anyway). Maybe if I was able to run the games windowed i could make it work.

I think f5 enables window mode in some of the games.
-
Odd. They worked after rotating with irotate last night, but won't work like that this morning. ???
Maybe a setting from the last time they were ran is screwing something up.
F5 doesn't seem to work on any of the vertical games.
Didn't have time to try the others.
-
Tried SFIV this morning but it runs really slow. figured id be able to run it just fin with my setup. amdx2 64 3.0 4 gig of ram and an ati radeon 4350. anyone get this running right with less power?
-
Actually I was going to chime in to say how much FASTER SFIV runs compared to the pc port. SFIV (pc) on my machine runs just fine, but during the intro scenes it drops a frame or two, and believe me, my machine is a beast. The arcade version runs and boots much faster.
You know, after doing some research, the pcbs for the taito systems isn't that expensive... around 200 bucks. If we could get a version of mame ready for xp embedded (which shouldn't be hard) it might be the cheapest mame cab build ever!.
Also a couple of things to note in the arcade version of SF IV:
Networking apparently works! Or at least it properly detects my ip address during startup.
The game uses essentially the same files as the pc version. Some people have already applied mods for the pc version of the game to the arcade version. This *might* mean that we can get the missing characters like cammy in there.
This is the one player version that's popular in japaneese arcades... there IS a two player version out there, we'll just have to wait and see if it gets released.
If you guys can definatively figure out how to properly rotate the game I should be able to whip something up to correct the aspect.
Btw, does anybody have any info on the "scratch drive" option from the config? The current way to config buttons is terrible, and I would like to have a go at making a better one.
-
I only started it up a few times and played halfway through a fight to test it, but it seemed to run full speed.
2.6Ghz Athlon x2 (old socket AM2), 4GB DDR2, Nvidia 8600GT, Vista 64 Home Premium
Howard- Not sure what the scratch drive means. I don't remember that being one of the things to configure with Continuum Shift.
That game saved service menu info (country, language, hi scores) to drive D with no way to change it.
If you didn't have a drive D, it would just load the default(Japan) every time.
I just stuck an old 128mb flash drive in the back of the computer and assigned it to that letter.
Perhaps this is an option to allow you to choose the drive info is stored on.
I don't think there will be a way to rotate it "properly".
The best case scenario would be to use an autohotkey script and irotate to black out the screen, rotate & launch the game in a window with a black frame (and rotate back on exit).
I did that for vertical shmups in Makaron.

Eeek, that d drive thing is awful! Guess what's on my D drive for this machine? The factory restore partition!!! I looked and the games are indeed saving their info on there. Luckily the files are so small that it doesn't hurt anything.
I read on another forum (and if you read the text in the config dialog) that it also stores input information. I'm afraid to mess with it without more info.
By "properly rotate" I meant reliably get the games to rotate without crashing. I know a bit of hackery is going to have to be done here. ;)
Btw I just tried blazblue and it's graphics are screwed up... anyone else run into this problem?
I looked at the arcade version of sfiv a bit more and the files are IDENTICAL to the pc version except for the missing characters. I might try to add them in later if I get time. The only thing that would stop them from working would be if the EXE specifically calls the individual files instead of using a cfg file or lookup table.
-

It's the default settings on your video card, but I'm not sure I remember which one at the moment.
Something has to be turned all the way off, maybe anti-aliasing.
-
For blazblue, I had to disable the antialiasing in the nvidia control panel.
About the D:/ drive, you can find on internet modified "game.exe" for each games, in order to have saves in the games folder (instead of d:/). It works for the games i tried.
-
does anyone else get a "no disc" error window when running Blazblue? Nothing else does it, including Continuum Shift, tho if I skip it the game launches anyway.
Also I'm pulling my hair out trying to make video snapshots for this stuff. Does anyone know a video tool/plugin that doesn't just throw it's hands up at youtube rips, since i'm not really able to record these.

you may have not used the loader if it came with one to start it up. I have king of fighters xiii and if i start it up with game.exe i get the same message, but if i use the typex_loader.exe it works fine. Hope this helps

I'm still having trouble with blaze blue, but then again I have an ati card and you can't completely turn off AA with them (just reduce it to 2x).
If anyone's interested in starting a troubleshooting thread, here are the issues I've ran into.
Raiden III .... crashes if I rotate the display
Raiden IV..... sometimes the game hangs on startup and I have to re-do the settings to get it running again. Also crashes if I rotate the display.
SF IV.... The game hangs on the intro video. My guess is it would hang on the victory videos as well, so forget about playing that one until I can fix the issue.
Blaz Blu.... Half of the graphics are missing, including the player sprites!!
Battle Fantasia... Even though it's a "widescreen" game, it insists on setting the resolution to 1280x1024 on my monitor, making it stuck in 4:3 letterbox.
Giga Wing.... Screen will rotate if I use hardware rotation prior to launching, but the aspect is wrong. Luckily this game creates an actual window, so we should be able to fix this!
Homura... Crashes if you rotate the screen.
KOF Xii.... game.exe is a red herring..... actual exe is in the TypeXSys folder and thus your launcher and your bat has to be in there. Just make a shortcut to the bat and put it in the root folder.
Matrimalee.... Game runs fine, but intro video doesn't play... I get treated to a blank screen.
Shikigami.... Again, can't rotate the display.

oh wow thats some bad luck, i have a ati card aswell the only problem i have is rotating the screen but everything else is peachy.

Well if you look at my list the only REAL issues are with blazblu and sfiv.
Can you guys do me a favor? I'm going to go ahead and write a better config exe but I need a little more info.
Open up your log file and post the first few lines of the keycode table it prints out.
Mine is like this:
00000001 00000104 00000000 Esc
00000002 00000204 00000000 1
00000003 00000304 00000000 2
00000004 00000404 00000000 3
00000005 00000504 00000000 4
The numbers in the first column (which might differ on your system) are the low-level scancodes, the next one, which the loader actually uses, has a "04" tacked on for some reason. I don't have a clue if the "04" is universal or what it means. Other than that I've figured out the format and should be able to create bin files for use with the loader.

all the games but 3 of them (battle fantasia, kof xii and kof 98) wont launch on my arcade pc but they'll load on my laptop. I know when I try to launch kof 98 I get a d3d9.dll is not a valid windows image but for the other ones nothing happens.....
-
Out of all the cool new games the one I'm actually excited for is tetris grand master 3 finally being emulated. this new bunch of games plus the new effects in mame are really helping me lean towards a scratch build cab with an lcd.
-
They aren't emulated, they are pc games. Because I'm waaay more curious than the should be I poked around at what the typex_loader.exe does. Basically it does a keyboard hook and that's about it. The original hardware had some sort of custom i/o device and all the loader does is fake that.
I've looked around forums (mostly foreign language forums... ugh) and people with ati cards are having similar issues to the ones the described. Unfortuantely, because these are pc games, the only solution might be to use a different video card.
Then again if you look at the system specs for the taito x/x2 system they are sort of crappy pcs, so any video card swapout wouldn't cost that much.
-
I was reading that some titles have dependencies:
visual c runtime 2005/2008/2010 (x86 and x64 if running 64bit OS)
.net 3.5
DX 9
not sure if any external codecs are required for SFIV videos, can't get them to play on 2 different systems
xp 32,c2d,2gb,8800gtx
7 x64,i7,4gb,5870

I need to make sure the x86 runtimes are updated on my system. As for the sfiv videos some forums say that forcing vsync on fixes the issue. It doesn't for me though.
-
They aren't emulated, they are pc games.
why nitpick
-
Well there is a big difference, if the games where emulated then it would be a trivial change to rotate vertical games, know what codecs and libraries are required, add more input options, define hardware requirements etc..
As the games are hacks, some of these issues may never be fully resolved.
-
I realize there is a difference it's just that wasn't the point I was trying to make. The only point I was trying to make is that there was no playable version of tgm3 for me and now there is and I'm happy about it. It plays and its fun don't care what its called.
-
Wow.. This is awesome news!
I can't launch games from GameEx however...
Has anybody had any similar problems? Anyone got any advice from the top of their head or anything?
I've changed many of the settings within GameEx & they work fine when not launched from the frontend, but I'm just getting a black screen and then sent back to GameEx. When this happens also, the games are not running in the background or anything...
Edit: Four hours and hundreds of ---smurfing--- ---daisies--- later... it is now working! Hooray!
-
They aren't emulated, they are pc games.
why nitpick
I'm not nitpicking. I'm correcting bad information from the start before it gets passed around enough times that people think it's the truth. I've been around these forums a long time, all it takes is for one person to innocently spout off some incorrect information and another person to believe it and 6 months later 50% of the board thinks it's a fact.
Also read what jimmy said. The reason I wanted to make the distinction is the fact that these issues some of us are having might not be fixable.
-
Why, oh why!!!? :banghead:
Before the stress I went through a while ago, I tested two of the games - Chaos Breaker & Street Fighter 4.
SF 4 ran much too slow, however the former was perfect. I assumed that a decent number of titles will play fine though - assumed.
Damn, pc played all but two other games like crap & all the games that worked, are games which I have no interest in!
I even played (In matrix style) the gem that is Battle Fantasia for the first time, and I thought it was awesome and I'm so gutted that it can't go in my cab!
Damn stress, all for nothing... :badmood:
Edit: By the way, I meant to say that the games either played like crap or were displayed in the wrong orientation - but the vertical shooting games not working was not a big deal for me and so I couldn't be bothered to get them to display correctly, whilst not messing anything else up.
-
Ok guys, I found some work-arounds. It takes a ton of hackery, but it is possible to rotate the vertical games!
1. Google for a program called DXWnd. This program wraps direct-x applications and forces them into windowed mode.
2. Download iRotate, even if your video card supports rotation, irotate will make it easy to rotate the screen via a batch file.
3. Make a ahk script that will move your game window, remove the border and setup a backdrop. (It's a bit complicated, I'll post something tomorrow.)
4. Fire up DXWnd. Add all of your game.exe's via the add button in the menu. Be sure to select DX9. Do NOT use the execute function as we need the exe's loaded via the typex loader and DXWnd will automatically hook exes as they are launched.
5. Make a batch file that looks something like this:
----------------------------------------------------------------
CD "C:\Taito Arcade\DXWnd\dxwnd.exe"
timeout /T 1 /NOBREAK>nul
CD "C:\Program Files (x86)\iRotate\"
iRotate.exe /rotate=90
timeout /T 1 /NOBREAK>nul
CD "C:\Taito Arcade\Raiden 3 - TX1\"
typex_loader game.exe
timeout /T 1 /NOBREAK>nul
cD "c:\Taito Arcade\Raiden 3 = TX1\"
MoveWindow.ahk
Pause
CD "C:\Program Files (x86)\iRotate\"
iRotate.exe /rotate=0
exit
-------------------------------------------------
Basically what the batch file is doing is:
1. Load dxwnd
2. Wait a sec
3. Launch irotate to rotate the screen 90 degrees.
4. Wait a sec
5. Run the game
6. wait a sec
7. Run your ahk script that makes it look nice.
8. Rotate the screen back once you are done.
I'll write a ahk script or something tomorrow that does this better, but for now, yes you can rotate the screen!
-
So am I correct in understanding that SF4 as it's released only single player? I saw mention of Super SF4 as an arcade version with 2P support.. Has this been released as well?
Can someone who's more familiar with these clarify for me?
-
I didn't really test it because it didn't really work due to my computer's specs, but I'm pretty sure SF 4 is the single player only version.
Also, no, Super SF 4 hasn't been released.
-
I wanted to give an update on these games and some of the problems and fixes I've found/created.
The vertical games:
I'm in the process of writing a wrapper that automates the entire process! You still need irotate and dhwnd, but you don't have to deal with them, the wrapper does everything. It isn't one of those lame key simulation ahk exes either, all of it is done in pure api code. I even added support for bezels since there is a lot of empty space, praticularly if you are playing them on a hd display. I made a 4:3 and 16:9 bezel from the ps2 bezel in giga wing and it looks quite nice.
I"m taking the time to make sure the wrapper is as stable as possible, but there isn't much to it, so I should release it tonight. This really brings me back, btw. Emulators are pretty much command-line friendly at this point. These pc games are the first time I had to write a full-fledged wrapper in over 10 years! Memories......
SFIV:
One of the benefits of programming a lot of wierd stuff is the fact that if a commercial product has a bug, you might recognize it. Prior to Vista, videos played in a directx application could be handled via a colorkey overlay. Since then it's been removed in favor of a more universal hw accelerated one. I think this is why SFIV locks up on the videos seeing as how it was programmed for win xp. There are tweaked video drivers that can handle this issue but I'm not brave enough to try them. At least we know where to look though.
BTW it is NOT the codec. I've tried several videos in place of the official one, including avis and mpegs (renamed to wmv of course) and none of them play properly BUT I can hear the sound of the video.
Raiden IV:
Boy this game has some issues. I'll look into it when I have a few days to kill. ;)
Arcana Hearts 3:
This is a new release. It has a bunch of bad hacks implemented instead of using the typex_loader. Key bindings I might not be able to fix BUT it's weird exit issues and such I can via a wrapper.
Alt Key:
I don't know if you've noticed or not, but the games appear to "pause" when you press alt. This is because it's brining up the alt-menu, even in fullscreen! The fix is simply not to use alt, BUT if you want to be able to pause the games there you go. ;)
I hope that helps some people.
-
I didn't really test it because it didn't really work due to my computer's specs, but I'm pretty sure SF 4 is the single player only version.
Also, no, Super SF 4 hasn't been released.
It's single player online though. You can have two pcs connected to you network one running with the "master" settings and one running with the "slave" settings and it will indeed work! This is the most popular version in japan due to the popularity of single-player "candy" cabs and thus this is why it was the first one to be dumped. I'm sure the others will come out though.
-
^ Wise words
I was thinking about authentic and traditional multiplayer you see...
-
Did I miss a solution, or does BlazBlue still have graphical issues for ATI users? Everything runs full speed for me without issues, except for the graphics problem I have with BB.
-
great work Howard, can't wait to try it out
-
I ran into a little snag on some of the vertical games. They run too damn fast!
I thought "no problem, i'll just use one of those slowdown apps" but I can't find one thats free, supports command line usage or is any good.
Anybody got any reccomendations?
-
Howard,
Have you tried adjusting the V-Sync in your videocard propertys? I've seen that corrected by doing that.
-
Yeah that's the first thing I tried.
I also tried to send various messages to the window to try and slow it down, but it didn't really help.
-
According to those commercial apps that slow down the PC Eg. "CPUKILLER use your processor and make the resource occupancy grow enough to slow down the execution of other applications".
If you have a while(1); loop that will take up 100% of the CPU. Adding in a Sleep will give back some of that CPU. Maybe doing that along with setting the games process priority to low might work?
Here is an untested AutoHotKey script that might work
Run game.exe,,, pid
Process, wait, %pid%
Process, Priority, %pid%, Low
Loop
{
Sleep, 1
}
If using Sleep() gives up too much CPU you may have to have a while() loop instead. To make it more accurate you could use a timer inside the while loop that will wait until a certain amount of microseconds has passed. The added benefit of doing it this way would be you could get a waiting time that will work for any CPU. I see an added problem on multi-core processors also where you will have to make sure you are running the wait code on the same CPU as the game.
-
Yeah that was the first thing I thought of but it won't work because there's too much going on.
You've got the typex_loader.exe.... it's has a low-level directinput hook in place and it steals most of the game's messages.
On top of that you've got dxwnd.exe.... it's constantly man-handling the directx renderer, forcing it into windowed mode and somehow preventing the game from crashing (if you close dxwnd the game instantly crashes).
And then you've got my app trying to send stuff to the two fake windows hoping it will somehow be passed along to the real window, which is locked out from user input via the loader.
Long story short I don't have access to the game process, because the typex_loader has locked me out of it. Slowing it down doesn't seem to effect the game speed, as a matter of fact it appears to close itself after it sets up some fancy hooks. The game process is still locked though.
I did manage to find a couple of commercial programs that slow it down, but it pretty much ruins the game. See the game graphics play too fast but the sound doesn't. Any throttling of the game's speed makes the sound stutter, similar to when you try to run a mame game that your system can't handle.
I"m pretty sure the two games in question have a pc port though, so I don't think it's worth losing sleep over.
Hopefully someone will eventually find a solution.

Just an update:
The wrapper is finished (and by finished I mean I'm not messing with it anymore) at this point. I did include support for a slowdown app that "sorta" works, but there are better options out there.
I am currently making nice icons and collecting as many "official" bezels as possible via other ports. I will release everything late tonight when I get some time.
So just to recap the wrapper will make Raiden III and GigaWing Generations fully rotatable and fully playable.
The wrapper will also make Homura and Shikigami III playable via a slowdown app, but you will have to tweak it for your individual system and it may make the sound stutter a little.
Raiden IV is broken, the thing won't launch for me, but if one could get it to launch it would work on it too (I just don't have the window/class names to add to the cfg file).
Arcada Hearts 3 should be an easy fix... the people who hacked the exe just forgot to include an escape button and to set the resolution back upon exit. I can do that in a few minutes.
-
Raiden IV runs for me if I set it to run in 256 color mode under properties. Have you tried that by chance?
-
I'll try the new exes thanks, but to answer your question yes, maybe once out of 20 times it will load up. I managed to get it running long enough to get the window handle though so I setup a cfg for it.
Anyway, the wrappers are done... sorry I didn't post sooner but we've had some power outtages.
Click on my footer to go to my homepage where you can get the wrappers.
Please note that these are NOT turn-key apps. You need to install a couple of things and possibly setup cfg files first. Read the readme.txt for details or post here if you have some questions.
I've also included a bunch of bezels from the console ports and various other sources. Some are kind of curddy looking but others make all the difference in the world. So check em out!
-
Thanks Howard.
I have a couple issues......
Gigawing is missing from your packages.
Raiden III isn't launching (launches fine from batch file) - screen goes black for a second, but that's all that happens. It doesn't rotate.
EDIT: With Raiden III, it was that the third line of the cfg file still had your path to DXWnd instead of ..\DXWnd\
-
All games working for me so far. Strangely SF4 is too slow. Everything runs at normal speed, the menus, intro, demo fights etc but when I start a fight the characters are moving at about half speed. It's smooth, no frames are being dropped and the sound is normal, it's just slow. Very strange. PC is a Core2duo 2.66ghz with 4gb RAM and a Geforce 9300(512mb) running XP.

1.1 Is up, it includes gigawing and fixes the cfg file. Sorry about that, but the power was on and off all night... I didn't get a chance to actually check the zips once I uploaded them. ;)
And with that I'm out for the day. Happy independance day everyone!

I was taking a break and went ahead a whipped up a wrapper for Arcana Hearts 3 using the source to my old command line wrapper.
It works in that it exits the game properly when you press the defined key and it switches the resolution back to what it should be.
I want to work on it a little more before I release it though. The game sets itself to an awfully low resolution and while that's fine, on certain monitors it could cause havoc. What I'll do is merge the windowed mode hackery I used on the vertical games with this wrapper and make a "windowed fullscreen" mode for the horizontal games as well.
Then I'll see what (if anything) I can do to get sfiv and blazblue working properly.
Also Raiden IV has a "fullscreen" option in it's ini commented out. While uncommenting it doesn't do anything, the flag to set the game to windowed mode might still exist in the exe. I"ll try looking for it as this game launching in windowed mode would probably fix all of it's issues.

You can read and get my solutions to all the games on the HS forums/FTP here, made them over 6 months ago:
http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showpost.php?p=127590&postcount=57 (http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showpost.php?p=127590&postcount=57)
Note, you need to be a Gold Member to get them on the FTP though.
They do pretty much do the same thing HC's tool does. Mine all works in ahk, no need for new exes unless you want the game.exe's that I hacked. This is designed for Hyperspin though.
-
For some reason the .bat files I was using in each folder to run these stopped working. They worked for every game, tried a wrapper to rotate vertical games, and since then they do not work at all. I had used each file several times, so I know getting these games work on my comp as I had loaded each more than once. Is there some reason .bat files would just stop working? I'm pretty frustrated, I'm hoping someone with some good knowledge can point out something simple. :banghead:

Apparently no I can't. It's asking for a login. ;)
kokoski:
The wrappers don't effect the bat files or executables in any way. Perhaps something screwed up and it's still running? Run taskmanager (ctrl+alt+delete) and search for stray exes. Are dxwnd or bes running? Both man-handle anything called "game.exe"
Also something of note:
Shikigami III and raiden IV have pc versions! Mind you they are quite obscure and I believe japanese only, but they use the exact same files as the arcade ones and thus might be a better solution rather than using a speed limiter.

May I mirror these files outside of the HS ftp for non-members?

I would prefer not, but if you want to just understand I cannot support them anywhere but on the UndergroundGamer HS project thread (http://www.underground-gamer.com/forums.php?action=viewtopic&topicid=29981) and HyperSpin forum (http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13627) thread. Ok guys, if you go to my site, I've released a wrapper for Arcana Heart 3. I was kind of torn on this one seeing as how it is a fairly new game, but it's a japanese game, one that is NEVER slated to be released in the west, so in this case I'm going to let it slide.
My wrapper fixes the exit issue, includes a utlity to remap keys (I found it, it isn't mine), and allows you to set coin1, coin2, exit and test mode keys.
As always, get it at my site.
-
Raiden IV
The wrapper for Raiden IV isn't working for me. I know it's glitchy to begin with and you said it might not work,
but here are my observations on that one if you want to try to tweak it.
I'm sure you've come across the batch file to launch it that has a pause in it.
Using that and the modified exe,
it works for me every time as long as I get all other open windows minimized before the game launches.
The game will still launch even if you don't press a key to continue when prompted.
Of course the screen isn't rotated using that batch file.
I haven't had to make any changes as far as compatibility settings to get it to work.
This is on Vista 64 Home Premium.
AH3
The first time (and only the first time) that I launched AH3 via your wrapper, after I exit,
my desktop icons and taskbar were missing.
The wallpaper and windows sidebar was still there. Right clicking did nothing.
Windows I had left open could still be brought to the front via task manager.
I checked the services and didn't see anything stopped that shouldn't have been.
explorer was still running. I logged off and back on and all was fine.
It wouldn't be an issue on the cab and the few times I tried it since then it's worked perfect.
Just thought I would let you know in case someone else has the same issue.
(make sure they've tried it more than once!)
One more thing...... :-\
The link to the no-art wrapper package on your site is dead.

Howard:
Tried your 1.1 no artwork version. I receive a black screen with Runtime error 53 message. When I clear the error and return to the desktop, my taskbar is completely gone. Have to reboot to correct.
My folder structure is (using raiden3 as an example): D:\Taito\Raiden III\game.exe.
DXWnd and BES folders are under D:\Taito.
irotate is at C:\Program Files (x86)\iRotate
I've moved your .cfg an .exe from the appropriate folder into D:\Taito\Raiden III\
Am I missing a step here?

I got my hands on all these, as well as KoF Maximum Impact Regulation A (Which I haven't tried), and Arcana Heart 3 (Which isn't a Type-X/X2 game) on alt.binaries.emulators last week. (Yes, don't get me started on how everyone calls playing Type X/X2 games 'emulation'. :banghead:) Just thought I'd report my findings.
First of all, wow, yeah. BBCT doesn't like ATI cards apparently. Though I've never had any trouble with BBCS. I downloaded Continuum Shift when it was first leaked last year, and it ran fine on a pair of 3850s, no graphical issues. I upgraded the machine to 6870s early this year, and the game probably runs better than it does on an OEM Type-X2 machine. ;D
Screen rotation... Well, the trouble I ran into was that, while my LCD _does_ rotate, it rotates the wrong damned direction. ::) The solution was to go into the Windows display properties and set my monitor to 'Landscape (Flipped)', so that it would be in the right orientation when I turned the monitor the direction it _WILL_ go. And that worked fine.
So far, the only game I can't get to work at all is KoF'98, but I'm not real broken up about that because I have the original MVS version in a 4-slot NEO-GEO cab about ten feet from my computer. ;D Though it would probably be nice to make that work. I also had trouble with SFIV hanging on the intro movie. But that's it.

You have typex_loader.exe and it's need files in with the wrapper right? Because all of these games except for ah3 require typex_loader to launch and my wapper automatically looks for it.

Under D:\Taito\Raiden III\ I have:
game.exe
game.bat
typex_loader.exe
data folder
detoured.dll
game.inf
R3.sfv
typex_config.exe
typex_io.dll
type_io.log
I then copied over the .cfg file and .exe from your Raiden III folder and placed them into D:\Taito\Raiden III\
When trying to run your .exe, I receive the runtime error 53 message window against a black screen.

On UG, you only have access to the project FTP if you are a contributor to the project. It's more of an exclusive thing. On HS though, you only have to be a Gold member to gain access to the thread/FTP with all the files.
Remember, my method is all scripted for you if you use HS and requires no setup or path defining besides setting up the wheel/paths in the HyperHQ. Howard's method is similar to mine, but will work for any FE and requires a good amount of user setup.

Tried the AH3 wrapper on my emulator setup that runs XP Pro and I have the same problem mentioned in my last post, but it does it every time.
I'm not real worried about it (doubt I'd play the game), but if you want to keep working on it, it is an issue.

I've had Shiki 1, 2 and 3 for PC for years, as well as Raiden III. However, I've never found Raiden IV. Are you sure it's been released for PC?
I've tried the wrappers but the games run with bad framerate here.
Raiden IV is a little tricky. It seems it needs the folder window from which you run it minimized, but another window (no matter what), active, for the game to run. I've written an Autohotkey script to launch it without problems:
#notrayicon
Gui, -caption border
Gui, Color, ffffff
WinSet, TransColor, ffffff
run, %comspec% /c typex_loader.exe launcher.exe,, min
sleep 700 ; Adjust time here if it refuses to load. If you get IO error, reset your computer and try again.
WinClose, A
gui, show
sleep 7000
gui, destroy
exitapp
As regards other games, I have problems with KOF XII and Battle Fantasia. Both run, but only if I chose low res monitor. Anyone with this problem? With KOFXIII, everything is fine except for the input lag and the fact that it doesn't fill the screen (margins up, down, left and right). I'm using a Geforce and a 1920x1080 res monitor. I've never had problems with Blazblue CS and CT before but lately I got some screen corruptions. Eventually, if I reset my computer and run them again, they look perfect.
-
BTW, do you think it would be possible to make Enbseries to work with KOF MIRA2? I've tried it but it takes no effect. It would be nice to improve those graphics.

Found a fix for Raiden IV to make it run. Just edit the "game.bat" and add "pause" so it should look like this
typex_loader game.exe
pause
Don't wait to long to "hit any key" or it will lock up. Hope that helps.

Are you running a pc game before they stop working? I had an issue with House of the Dead for PC changing the default anti-aliasing settings and screwing up blazblue CS.
-
Maybe. I'll force Antialiasing off for both games in the Nvidia control panel and see if the problem is gone.
-
There`re just two problems that are really bothering me.
1 - I have glitches(horizontal lines) appearing in some character moves(specials) and in some backgrounds from KOF XIII(KOF XII is perfect). Is it happening to everyone?
2 - In KOF 98 UM, I can't see nothing in the test menu(black screen).
Is there any solution for these problems?
My specs:
Windows Xp 32 bits;
e6600@2.4 oc 3.25(stable);
2Gb ddr2 800 oc 875(stable);
8800 gts 512 oc 1.15v 700 - 1728 - 1000(stable).
ps.
I tried these games with processor and ram in stock speeds without any difference.
-
Thanks Howard and DJVJ for your efforts.
I have yet to try them, but I can tell a lot of work has gone into these solutions.
I wonder if these solutions could be integrated into the taito type x frontend specifically designed for taito type x. Might be good for them to see your work. Plus there' would be less questions about rotating for non frontend users. (can't link it because the site also has roms).
I have no issues running most games, but with KOF 94 UM, it seems that the game uses integrated graphics (at least this would explain why it works with my laptop and not my home pc). I wonder if there would be a way of blocking the graphic cards and then unblocking on exit? Is that a crazy idea that's impossible?

I've never had an issue with KOF 98 UM, and didn't know that others were. Only thing I can think of is that I'm using a Sandy Bridge 2500k processor which has integrated graphics built into the chip (although I use a dedicated card in my setup). May be a solution if you were thinking about upgrading at some point in the future.

There are issues with the AH3 wrapper aside from that. I whipped it up in around 15 min. ;)
Your problems aren't unique and I know the cause. Basically I need to put in smarter error handling. The wrapper hides the taskbar (if not set to autohide) by making it invisible, BUT due to the timing and setup of various systems/oses, it could potentially hide your desktop instead. I just need to purposefully get the handle of the desktop and mke sure when it hides stuff that it never uses the handle.
As for those posting issues with framerate on shiki 3, well the wrapper is launching a frame limiter... what do you expect? Remove those lines from the cfg if it's running too slow for you. ;)
-

Well I haven't found it either, but it supposedly exists.
Thanks for the code and explaination! Now that I know the cause of the raiden IV lockups I can probably make a more stable fix for it. I'll bet it has something to do with the taskbar, as winxp embedded doesn't have one.
In regards to these wrappers, I'm just taking a break on them. I flip back and forth in regards to projects anymore. Right now I'm working on a universal console header reader, but I'll get back to them once I get tired of that project. ;)
-
I ran into an error that might explain some of the odd issues some of you were having.
Apparently irotate.exe show up as a (false) virus in many anti-virus programs, including avg! The odd thing is avg didn't "see" it as a virus until a few reboots later. The thing is irotate essentially hooks your display drivers, so if avg or another anti-virus blocks it, then it can cause all kinds of crazy graphical issues. The solution is to add it as an exception in your resident sheild program (different for each anti-virus).
Even false positives annoy me though. I know that screen rotation is integrated into windows vista/7 now so I'm going to try to track down the dll that does it and give the option of screen rotation that way. As for xp users they'll be stuck with irotate I'm afraid.
-

They ran fine on my main pc, but won't run on my mame setup that's lower res and uses s-video out. I will try the low res option and let you know.
Both those games and SFIV will only run in low res mode on my arcade setup (1024 x 768, 8600GT, XP32).
They all run fine on my main PC (1440x900, 8600GT, Vista64)
Not sure what the issue is since you're running an even higher resolution monitor.
-
howard, i also get runtime error 53.
i have all the necessary files in the folder.
:(
typex_loader.exe
game.exe
is in the folder
DXWnd launches when i execute GigaWing Generations.exe.
irotate path is correct.
-
Sorry guys, I can't replicate the error, and if I can't replicate it then I can't fix it.
There really isn't much code in these little wrappers, the other two exes do most of the work.
But here are some things you can check.
1. It's a vb6 app and thus requires vb6 runtimes. If you are on xp they should be preinstalled, otherwise download them. (There should be a link on my site).
2. In terms of api calls, the wrapper calls very little and for the most part they are necessary system dlls so you should have them, but incase you don't do a file search for "user32.dll" and "kernel32.dll" in you windows/system(32) folder. Those are the only two I call, period.
3. That blurb about irotate.exe that I mentioned above was IMPORTANT! AVG, for example doesn't delete the exe, it blocks it from running! Not being able to access a file in vb will sometiems give a fnf error. So irotate.exe would be in your folder, but nothing can run it.
It must be something unrelated to the program and related to some dependancy because just for a debug test I started renaming all of the crucial files and I couldn't even get an error 53... the error handling I put in place gracefully exits the program if any of the necessary files are missing.
-
Good News Everyone!
I was playing around with ChangeDisplaySettingsEX and the thing actually works for screen rotation now!
When I started programming seriously we were in win 9X and while the ChangeDisplaySettingsEX api call was supposed to let you change screen resolution it rarely did due to poor video card support (vendors didn't make their drivers properly announce to the windows drivers that rotation was supported).
So I deemed The whole thing worthless and never looked back. BUT things have changed. Starting with windows vista, miscorsoft required video card drivers to properly report hardware rotation if the card supported it... third party dlls were no longer allowed. So on vista and 7, if you can rotate the screen, you can rotate it via the api call! But it gets better. Ati And Nvida both release their drivers in "packs" ie one mega driver that supports multiple cards. Because vista/7 come in 32 and 64 bit flavors the 32 bit drivers, which work in vista will also work in xp.
So long story short I can rotate the screen within my wrappers.... irotate is no longer needed!
I will keep the OPTION in for compatabilites sake, but in all honesty these games need so much juice to run that your pc is probably going to have a fairly modern video card in there anyway.
-
Is this available in the TaitoX Rotate Wrappers 1.1 available on your web site or are you going to update the file for download?
-
I'm going to update soon, but for now I haven't programmed it in yet. ;)

I haven't released the update yet, but I went ahead and added in the code to remove irotate.exe.
I'm leaving it in as a option. If you set the irotate path blank or "none" then it uses the internal rotate code, otherwise it uses irotate with the path you specified.
I'll release it soon, but first I want to see if I can remove dxwnd. If I hook the dx calls myself I might be able to restore the proper framerate. ;)

Fantastic news everybody!
I was finishing up the wrapper updates when I ran across this:
http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=37216&sid=5c6de27b4eec389b02150ecd04ac9f0f&start=90 (http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=37216&sid=5c6de27b4eec389b02150ecd04ac9f0f&start=90)
Apparently they've heard of me. ;)
But anyway note the megauplaod link.... It links to some dx8/dx9 dlls... these are "override dlls" essentially pretending to be the real dx dlls whne they actually take the calls they need, modify when needed and pass the rest along to the real dlls. This was what I had intended to write to fix the speed issues with shiki III but somebody beat me to the punch. I tried them and they work great! so bes can be eliminated from the equation. I haven't done extensive testing with them but seeing as how they are essentially doing what dxwnd does to froce the screen in a window, I can assume that dxwnd is no longer needed either.
So couple that with the elimination of irotate.exe and we should have pretty stable wrappers at this point. Well all except for rainden IV... I'm still working on that one.
I'll release some updated wrappers tomorrow or later this week.
-
Even better news! I thought about it and the way that those dlls worked could fix the issue with street fighter iv. I tried them out and low and behold the game no longer freezes on the intro video!
-
great progress!

Everytime Howard starts off a post along the lines of "Good news everyone!" I can't help but picture the professor from Futurama speaking his post. I know, I need help.

I keep waiting for your name to turn up on a certain Portugese site. :lol

Well that's what I'm thinking when I write it so at least somebody gets as much of a kick out of it as I do. :D
On an unrelated note I really need to take a few min and change the batteries on my keyboard. The "typo-to-real" word ratio is getting pretty bad, even for me.
-
I was poking around a little more hoping maybe I could find something to get raiden IV working.
You know these games are all supposed to have a windowed mode.
How do I know? Well opening the exe up in resource hacker shows that eveyr taito x game has a very simple menu. I can't read Japanese, but from the hot keys used and the layout I can tell that the menu is:
File (F) Help (H)
Exit (X) About (A)
There's Even a typical "About" dialog box stored in each on as well.
Also each game seems to have an accelerator (shortcut key) defined. ResHack's site is long dead and it's help file isn't very helpful, but I'm pretty sure that it's either Alt+? or Alt+Numpad 8+? It's probably nothing, maybe it opens the "about" window, but it's worth checking out.

Ok now that's awesome! Are ya gonna make wrappers for all the games currently released? It seems tome running them this way would free up some resorces giving us a performance boost.
Btw you said you had some game running fast? I did too at first but I learned by forcing vsync on it would correct this issue.

Well essentially what these dlls are doing is forcing a proper framerate. I only get speedups when some of the games are forced into windows mode. The cause is most likely that they used the refreshrate for timing and you can't do with with directx when in windowed mode.
I'll let you in on a "secret" there's only one wrapper. I just rename it and put in in folders because each game has a unique class/caption and thus It would be a ton of setup otherwise.
If you are talking about the horizontal games, you really won't get much of a boost. Unless something happens in the real world, I'll make a new pack tonight.
-
stupid question, can you make it rotate the horizontal games and not rotate the vertical ones? I have a 32" CRT mounted vertically in my KI2 cab.
-
It's not setup like that but yeah, I could modify it to do that option.
But you are going to have to post pics as payment.... that is the craziest sounding setup I've ever heard of. ;)

Ah ok. I just think it's awesome you not only solved the rotation issue without having to use any addition calls to other programs, but in the process you figured out how to make the video run without issue in SF IV (which is the most common problem everyone is having).
I guess what I was asking if the wrapper you are making for the SF IV could also be be applied to the other horizontal games. If it fixes problems with the SF IV it could fix a problem I have with KOF XII choking or not starting at all (which is odd because KOF XIII and KOF MIRA run just fine).
-
Try em!
They are override dlls... windows will automatically load them instead of the real dlls as long as they are in the same folder as the exe you are launching. There should be a link somewhere in that post I linked to.
(p.s., ignore the bat file and rotate.dll that comes with the package, they are crap thus why I sill need to make a wrapper for the vertical ones.)
-
Confirmed that it does work for SF IV as long as you get rid of any other directx file that is also in the SF IV folder. The movie played all the way through for me. I tried it twice just to make sure.
For fixing my problem with KOF XII .. not so much.

Are you using multiple monitors? I have a tri-monitor setup, and while most of the games will load fine, some will not until I disable two of the three monitors. I believe KOF XII is one of those.

I'm a bit confused, I still see irotate and dxwind mentioned in the .cfg file, I thought the new wrapper eliminated the need of those programs for rotating. Was I wrong about that? Is the difference between this solution and djvj's solution that this wrapper doesn't need hyperspin?

That's what I included with my script on the HS ftp ;)
I didn't know that they would help those with the SFIV problem though. I don't have that freezing video problem, my SFIV is a different version from last year.

woops sorry about that
also, I still prefer the pc version of sfIV arcade edition, 2player games are a must.

Why don't you just release your wrapper to the public? It would've saved Howard all this work. I can host the file (on a free public server that anyone can access) if that's the problem.

My wrapper is no good unless you are running HyperSpin. Then if you are, you most likely have FTP access anyways.
It requires parameters sent to ahk that HS provides. Besides, Howard has learned alot about these games, if I just provided all my research up front, he wouldn't be so knowledgabe about them and you'd all be looking to me for help :o

In regards to SF4. When I use the typex_configuration.exe to configure my controls to a stick or gamepad it's difficult to hit diagonal directions; am I doing something wrong or do I need to be using something like joy2key?
I did play two player SF4 between two computers in my house. I couldn't get it to work over a switch but it might because that was before I gave my other PC a static IP address so static IPs might be a requirement before SF4 will recognize them. I ended up connecting both PCs directly with a net cable (a modern PC should detect this and adjust properly) and both PCs had static IP addresses. I booted SF4, went to the config screen and set one as the slave then rebooted them at the same time and they found each other. You can play a game on one system and if another person presses start on the other system then a two player game will begin.
Odd thing I noticed was that KOFXII was in surround sound. Various crowd noise and voices come in from the rear speakers.
Having a JVS board from a TypeX box would probably be nice.
-
Ok guys, 1.2 is up. In addition to fixing the frame rate issues with the vertical games, the included dlls also fix the video freeze on SF IV and the missing video/ long boot time issues with Matrimelee.
I also removed a lot of the bulk (only dxwnd is needed now, due to a bug in a game or two) and fixed some issues (desktop getting corrupted, cursor visible, ect).

One question.
I am making my own wrapper for Raiden4 but I donīt know how to hide windows borders. How did you make It?
Thanks in advance

Well if you can manage to get raiden iv to rotate without crashing then you are one step ahead of me. You'll have to explain how far you've gotten and I can help.
-
Just a heads up. Apparently the dlls I'm using create some config files when you run them. They have people nervous because they have proxy settings contained within them. I checked them out and thus far they harmless, but please read the post on my site for details on how to disable them just in case.
-
Well if you can manage to get raiden iv to rotate without crashing then you are one step ahead of me. You'll have to explain how far you've gotten and I can help.
Ok..I will try to explain it but i haven't done anything special or too difficult.
1) First of all I execute DXWND to run RAIDEN 4 Windowed
2) Then I rotate screen (I use Irotate)
3) Then I open a .bat that executes Raiden 4 then waits three seconds and the finishes..when the .bat window disapears automatically the Raiden 4 window appears..
In orden to resize, relocate and delete borders and title of Raiden 4 window I use the program "actual window manager", I use another program to hide the windos taskbar...and I open a black image ..as result what I see..is the same that you did with the wrapper for Raiden III..
All of this runs automatically...in order to get it I use a Macro recording program JITBIT MACRO RECORDER..this program allow you to record your macro, optimize it and the create and exe archive that executes that macro.
To close Raiden 4 and get everything to the normal state in my computer I use another Macro..that executes when I press ESC Key (I use another Macro Program that works with Hotkeys (Hot Keyboar pro)..
This Macro Closes all the programs and rotate the Screen to the normal position.
Problems: The Macro to Start takes about 8 seconds your wrapper 1 second..to exit the other macro needs 2 seconds yor wrapper...0 seconds haha
PD: I though that your Raiden 4 wrapper problem coud be that Raiden 4 ir order to run needs that the window that calls the game finishes after the game is called but before the game is launched...that's what I managed to do by waiting 3 second and then closing the .bat that launches the game. Maybe in yor wrapper you can call to a .bat file that makes the same that mine instead of launching the game directly...it could work...I would try myself but I don't know how to use Autohotkey very well...
If I did'nt explain something correctly please ask me..i know that my english could be better ;D

Thank you much for all the work. I have all the patches working except the Gigawing one. When I run it, it rotates and windows gigawing but then says game.exe has stopped working. I have tried it with and without Irotate and even doing the steps manually but the game always crashes.
Thanks again, keeps me from having to rotate my monitor which isnt fun.

For blazblue, I had to disable the antialiasing in the nvidia control panel.
About the D:/ drive, you can find on internet modified "game.exe" for each games, in order to have saves in the games folder (instead of d:/). It works for the games i tried.
would you post the links?

The links can't be posted here. They are modified bits of the game code and therfore it would be the same as linking to a rom, which is forbidden via the forum rules. Google is your friend.

Hey guys,
When I launch Battle Fantasia in particular I'm only getting game sound...but the screen is entirely black?
And reason for this? Or anyone else have this problem?
I have Windows 7 32bit, Nvidia latest drivers GTX280
Thanks in advance...!
-
Forget it i figured it out. If you have dual monitor setup it will crash the game.
-
Thanks a lot Howard_Casto for the launchers. I tried Gigawings and it seems to work flawlessly :notworthy:. Is there any work in progress for raiden IV ?
About the modified game.exe saving in the folder, all i can say is that you can find them in a Portuguese (or Brazilian maybe) website about emulation.
-
I use a pivot monitor with 1200x1920 so I am not really need to rotate the game. But if I starting Raiden IV it working upside down. Should I ask for a wrapper that enable some option around miroring, rotating or flipping the screen/game? Thanks!
-
Has anybody had problems with Giga Wing and the Raiden games as far as not running smooth when rotated with iRotate?
They run silky smooth when not rotated and my system handles SFIV without struggling, so it doesn't look like a lack of horsepower issue. In fact, when rotate, Fraps still reports 60fps and the game runs full speed, but feels like it's skipping a bunch of frames, so bullets are hard to track.
Any ideas?
-
It's not setup like that but yeah, I could modify it to do that option.
But you are going to have to post pics as payment.... that is the craziest sounding setup I've ever heard of. ;)

Way to go waiting until I'm done with type x and then linking a pic. ;)
I like it! I'm rather stumped on what to do with my mame cabinet (which is mk based). My second tv is failing, larger arcade monitors cost a small fortune, and yet in terms of tvs the only ones I can find are flat planels or cheap assed ones without the appropriate connectors! A lcd screen would be really nice what with the upped resolution and all, but I would actually end up with a much smaller screen due to the 16:9 aspect ratio.
Any suggestions?
Anyway, when I get a free moment I'll see if I can make a special "malenko" setting in my taito wrappers.
-
I've also thought about the day when I have to make the inevitable jump to an LCD TV through HDMI and the first thing that came to mind was to slide in a big widescreen TV mounted vertically, like Malenko did. However, this probably presents lots of challenges to get everything working properly, accommodating the excess TV width out of the viewable area, getting the video card to cooperate, etc.
One alternative is to purchase an LCD with the thinnest possible side bezel. Take some measurements and you probably won't lose as much vertical screen area as you think. It depends on hot wide is the viewable area of your current monitor, compared to the available interior width of the cabinet.
This setup will be fantastic, once the whole HLSL think matures in MAME and we can simulate the old CRT's more precisely.
-
Well with the acceptance of widescreen monitors and after having been inspired by my taito wrappers, I've been thinking of writing an app specifically for widescreen displays.
Called "wide load" (I know, I'm the king of bad puns). It would launch emulators in windowed mode, remove the borders and expand the window to maximum size while preserving the aspect ratio. It would also show interactive 16:9 bezels that could display game info/movelists/ect while you are playing the game. At least that way I wouldn't feel like the extra monitor width was wasted.
I could probably use the rotation tricks that I used on the taito wrappers to aid in window placement, BUT it's a cheap hack.
My MAME cabinet is oversized to accomidate a 27 inch crt. After living with it for many years I've found that it's slightly too big. I think MK II used a 24" monitor? What I would like to do is manage to stuff a 16:9 monitor in there that would give me the equivelent of a 24" display when viewing things in 4:3 ratio.
Check out this site:
http://www.displaywars.com/27-inch-4x3-vs-27-inch-16x9 (http://www.displaywars.com/27-inch-4x3-vs-27-inch-16x9)
As you can see from the specs, a 27 inch lcd, is the equivelent of a 22 inch display when used in 4:3 mode. I would like to get that up to 24 but don't tvs jump to 32 inches from 27? I've got 26 inches inside the cabinet in terms of width, so I don't think a 32 incher would fit.
***Update***
I just ran a 27 inch 16:10 display through the site. It gives you a 23.85 inch display area within a cabinet and it's display width is 22.9 inches, so it would just barely fit into a standard mk cabinet (definately in mine) and give you just about the same screen area!
The problem is 27 inch 16:10 monitors are as rare as gold.
Even with the added cost of tracking down a 16:10 it might be worth it though as you would "future-proof" your machine.
-
But with the widescreen, you lose all that space to the sides, if placed horizontally, whereas if you turn it on its side, you can fill the sides and just sacrifice a bit of space on top and bottom.
However, I do worry about games not running smoothly when the image is rotated because I am having that problem currently when rotating the TTx games either using iRotate or the nVidia driver. The games run choppy, as if skipping frames, although fraps reports 60fps.
-

Not really. You can with a rotated crt, because it's still 4:3. But a rotated 16:9 or even 16:10 display is going ot be frikkin long. To fill the width of a 26 incher you would have to use a 46 inch lcd or something crazy like that. Even then be prepared to cut a hole in the top of your cabinet and let the top of the lcd stick out about a half a foot.
And as I just explained you aren't Going to lose any space to the sides with a 16:10 display. Like all monitors it's going to have a bezel, so it won't be slammed up against the edges, it'll have a bit of a border. And the 4:3 space on a 16:10 is the equivelent of about a 24" crt, which is darn near close to the original size.
I terms of rotation, I worry about that as well, BUT for emulators/games that actually have a windowed mode it should be fine. Afterall if they are designed to run in windowed mode then everything should work correctly.

good news! Samurai Shodwon Edge of Destiny has been dumped!
Funny how the portuguese website responsible uses the word "liberated" instead of "dumped"
-
It's a Brazilian site and "liberated" probably means "released" in that context.
At any rate, the game has been dumped for quite a while but they have not been able to make it work with the existing loaders so they released in the hopes that someone manages to achieve it. I've not looked at the site since this morning since I'm at work and I'm not sure if I the firewall will let me (I'd rather not try), so if it's already working since then, I haven't found out.
-
I'm using this I-Inc. 28" 16:10 lcd that I got through amazon in my MK cab after my Kortek started acting up, and so far it works great.
I had to de-case it to make it fit, but it does everything I need it to for about $250(clearance, still 1 left).
Sadly, I haven't been able to get your wrapper working properly on it. The screen ends up like so:
(http://img824.imageshack.us/img824/733/newbitmapimagexm.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/824/newbitmapimagexm.jpg/)
Desktop is 1920X1200, so i'm not sure if it just doesn't like the dimensions or if I screwed something up.
-
It looks like internal rotation isn't working for you, trying installing irotate.exe and use that method. I got an email with someone with an identical issue and it fixed it. I did, btw, add in support for 16:10 displays and 16:10 bezels, just incase you wanted to make some or rename the existing (only 16:9 and 4:3 are included).
Thanks for the tip on the monitor!
The price and size sound about perfect!

they could easily say dumped, they purposely used liberated to mean it's been liberated from the confinements of it's original pc. I think it's because they're more excited about it than most others (it's an snk fan website after all). I've seen Spanglish and portugues/english mixed words used though.. like dumpiado.

So...can I mirror these horizontally anyway or is this another set of games I cant use on my mirror cab?

Taito Type X2 Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition

Taito Type X2 Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition
is out in the wild
It's only one player (like SFIV) for anyone who was wondering. :-\
Not exactly plug and play, but still much easier to install than the PC version I bought from Capcom.
It would be perfect if only it were the 2 player per cab version.
Hopefully whoever is doing these Type X cracks will make it to the driving games. ;D

I have a PC with a C2D E8400, 3Gb Ram, ATI Radeon 4670 running windows XP 32bit. I currently have this runing in my Egret 3 at 640x480 at 60Hz. Raiden III, Raiden IV & GigaWing Generations all play perfectly, but Homura and Shikigami no Shiro III run, but are really slow. I know the hardware is more than capable of running these games. I have check my ATI setting and have AA at its lowest setting. I have the games running in Tate (Default) with no rotation. I am not using a wrapper and am just starting the games with the game.bat files. Any idea's why Homura and Shikigami no Shiro III are running at the wrong speed?

I have been trying various thing, but am still unable to get these two games running at the correct speed. At no point is the CPU at 100% when the games are running, they just appear to be running at the wrong speed.

I have tried the d3d8.dll and d3d9.dll provided by ragexmaxima in both full screen and windowed using DXwnd, but still get the problem of both games running to slow. I am running them in low res (640 x 480 @ 60Hz) with no rotation.
-
The trouble may be with the video card. The Taito X2 system used Nvidia graphics cards. Using ATI cards with some games, BlazBlue for example, yields graphical errors. It may be the cause of your slowdown.
I have a ATI card on my home computer and I don't notice any slowdown... however it's a SandyBridge 2500k o/c'd to 4.2Ghz. My emulator machine hooked up to the TV is a C2D E8400, and it runs both games without slowdown, but I specifically bought a Nvidia GTX460 to avoid the ATI issues.
You also may want to do a Google search for "ArcadePC Loader 1.4". It's a slick front end that provides quite a few options to tweak before running the games.
-
Nah it isn't the hardware. I've got a Radeon HD 4600 in this machine and it plays those games just fine. Of course if it isn't a HD card then it's too puny. ;)
I think you've got something clunked up.
Something to note is that you can NOT choose the resolution for these games. So if your card is set to do a refresh rate override you need to turn it off as they use the screen refresh rate for timing.

I am using an ATI Radeon HD 4670, I have checked all the ATI settings and the refresh rate override is not on. I have also tried all the settings i.e. "performance", "balanced", "AA set to "x2" and "application set" etc. ATI do not give you the option to force AA off. I know the output is 640x480@60hz as my arcade monitor would not accept a higher resolution. The other games like Raiden III, Raiden IV & GigaWing Generations all play perfectly, but Homura and Shikigami no Shiro III are way to slow.
-
Those dlls included in my wrappers fixed those games for me, but my issue was that they ran too fast. So I dunno if they will help or not.

Those dlls included in my wrappers fixed those games for me, but my issue was that they ran too fast. So I dunno if they will help or not.

I tried the dlls in the game folders and ran the games both full screen and windowed and they still ran way to slow.

I have re-installed DirectX 9c and updated the ATI Graphics Card drivers to the latest version. Unfortunately this did not solve the problem and actually caused problems with game that ran perfectly before, so I had to revert the ATI drivers back to the previous ones. One thing I have noticed is that when I rotate the screen 90 degrees with the ATI Control Panel it reports the resolution as 480x640@60hz, but the Windows display properties show the resolution as 768x1024@43hz Interlaced? I am not sure which one is reporting correctly, but I don't know if this is causing the problem if these two games speed is tied the refresh rate. Forcing 60hz refresh in the ATI Control Panel makes no difference. I have tried everything I can think of to get these games running at the correct speed. I have tried them on my less powerful laptop an they both run full speed. So I'm sure this is to do with the fact I am running at low res on an acrcade monitor

Old thread, but for reference:
I just started messing with these again for my new cab that has hardware rotation instead of software rotation. ;)
Arcana Heart 3 would leave the desktop at the low resolution of the game after exiting it.
If anyone else has that problem, here's the autohotkey script I used to fix it:
(using Windows Vista 64, but it should work on XP)
Run, AH30-PC4-fullscreen.exe
ESC::
Process, Close, AH30-PC4-fullscreen.exe
cD = 32 ; bits (quality) - you can change to suit your requirments
sW = 1920 ; pixels - you can change to suit your requirments
sH = 1080 ; pixels - you can change to suit your requirments
rR = 60 ; Hz (frequency) - you can change to suit your requirments
ChangeDisplaySettings( cD, sW, sH, rR )
ExitAPP
Return
ChangeDisplaySettings( cD, sW, sH, rR ) {
VarSetCapacity(dM,156,0), NumPut(156,dM,36)
DllCall( "EnumDisplaySettingsA", UInt,0, UInt,-1, UInt,&dM ), NumPut(0x5c0000,dM,40)
NumPut(cD,dM,104), NumPut(sW,dM,108), NumPut(sH,dM,112), NumPut(rR,dM,120)
Return DllCall( "ChangeDisplaySettingsA", UInt,&dM, UInt,0 )
}
I got the script for changing the desktop resolution from here:
http://www.autohotkey.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=8355&start=30 (http://www.autohotkey.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=8355&start=30)
There is a version for windows 7 at the bottom.
For the lack of coin inputs, I set it to free play in the service menu.
You can use the service menu to enter coins, but it enters a credit for both players.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread and I really should have looked this up a year ago when these got out into the wild, but I'm now struggling with wrappers for the vertical games. I'm getting the above result (ie. no rotation) yet I have no other problems (no slowdown, video sequences already run fine, I'm using an NVidia card and irotate also works perfectly), but cannot get any result other than this. Even when editing the config to read the coirrect path of irotate, I'm still getting this result. Has anyone got any ideas on how to sort this? Much appreciated if you can...

These games are a bit hacked up anyway, and the solutions to get them to run rotated in window mode are even more hacked up, so they just aren't going to run on every setup.
That being said, generally when a game won't rotate it's because of some resolution issue. Try changing your desktop resolution to something different, particularly the refresh rate and/or bit depth.
It could also be that your monitor doesn't support the low resolution of the game when in fullscreen mode (I think 480p rotated at 60 hz) and it freaks out while all the wrappers and stuff are trying to force the game into windowed mode. Lots of things can happen since they are so hacked up.
On a side note, I guess badmouth didn't pay any attention to my site.... there's a AH3 wrapper there that fixes all the issues, even coin inserting. ;)

Thanks for the reply Howard. I'm using a standard 4:3 LCD computer monitor so I imagine it should handle most things thrown at it, but will try what you have suggested. As everything in my setup seems to fit the criteria for working, and my graphics card does support rotation, is there any other way you can recommend as to how I could sort this out via a command line instruction or something? Just for an FYI, it's an NVIDIA Geforce GT 220, I'm running XP Pro, and all drivers, DirectX etc. are up to date.

No it isn't nearly as simple as that.
Let me give you an idea of what exactly the wrappers are doing.
1. The wrapper edits the ini for dxwnd and launches it to have it force the game out of fullscreen mode.... it does this via hooking directx, destroying the original game surface and re-routing it to a newly created window. It's such a tedious process that I'm using a third party app for it... something I never do.
2. Now that the game is windowed... the wrapper uses an api call to windows system metrics to rotate the screen. Some video cards, even if they support rotation, ignore this request and thus are not fully windows compliant. Nvidia cards are pretty bad about this. I kept irotate support to counter-act this as it uses individual card's dlls to rotate the screen.
3. Now the wrapper uses another api call to scale the window and puts the bezel behind it.
Timing for steps 1 and 2 are critical. If you try to rotate the screen while the game is being pulled out of fullscreen mode it will fail. Also some video cards fail if you rotate the screen after the game is in windowed mode... since you can't rotate the screen before, I obviously can't do anything about this.
-
Well I tried various resolutions but to no avail. I then tried rotating the desktop using both irotate and the NVIDIA options, but the game still launches rotated on it's side as it does with the wrappers. Finally I tried launching the games as normal, then using irotate pressing CTRL+ALT+RIGHT to rotate the screen (which it did) but it crashes the game and gives an error done this way. Surely there has to be a solution somehow, using the wrappers or a command line call directly using the NVIDIA options?

Sorry man, there isn't a solution for you.... your card is one of those that crashes the game if you rotate after the game is in windowed mode.
-
OK, any advice on commonly available cards around the same power and price that you can say do work?
-
I don't feel very comfortable giving a reccomendation to be honest. We know that the wrapper doesn't work for some setups and we know that some cards have trouble with rotation, but everything is so sketchy that we don't really know with 100% certainty what the cause it.
I could tell you the name of a card, you buy it and then you still run into the problem becuase it has to do with your OS or some errant driver or what have you.
I would suggest you play with it a bit more first and figure out exactly what is causing the issue.
Try this:
1. In the dxwnd folder, edit the path0 entry in the ini file to point to the game you are trying to launch. Go ahead and start dxwnd and keep it running.
2. Rotate the screen. Using Irotate or your video cards drivers
3. launch the game not with the wrapper, but the batch file that game with it.
It won't be resized right or anything, but it should go ahead and load without error. If that's the case then your setup has problem with the wrapper. Adjusting the delay in the cfg file might help as it's probably a timing issue. If not then you have something odd going on with your hardware/software.

I've given up for now on Taito Type X because I simply can't get it going with my frontend. I've got no problem losing out on the vertical games for now (simply none of the methods work so I may have to try a different graphics card) but I would at least like to have the horizontal games working, as there are some great fighters in there. I have finally managed to make a video showing some of my recent problems, but if if you skip to around the 12.50 minute mark the last couple of minutes I demonstrate and try to describe the issues I'm having when trying to tie this system into the frontend, as it works just fine from Windows with no issues (a couple of games still won't run, but hey ho). If you can shed any light on this Howard (or anyone!) I'd love to hear your suggestions:

Finally got a chance to see your video. I've seen that issue before.
Are you launching the games from within your FE via a batch file?
What Fe are you using?
I can't give you specifics without knowing that but let me explain what I think it is anyway.
typex_loader is not a persistant exe, and by that I mean it doesn't run the whole time the game is running. It quite literally loads the game, swapping out the memory addresses of inputs so that it's actually playable.
Most FE's freeze themselves and wait until the app launched exits before they come back. Well guess what? Be it via a batch file or directly via command line, what you launched was typex_loader, and it exited almost instantly. So your fe is still active in the background.
So we need to make an exe that will stay open until the games exit.
The easiest way would be to make a ahk (auto hot key) script for each game and compile it. Now you'll need the game's title bar captions, but here is an example script:
------------------------------------------------------
RunWait typex_loader game.exe,,Hide
Sleep 5000 ;We want to give the game a few seconds to load before we monitor it.
WinWaitClose Blaz Blue
------------------------------------------------------
All this is doing is making a false exe that'll stay running until the game closes, giving your FE something to monitor. Obviously I tested this one on Blaz Blue, replace that bit with the caption of the game you want to launch.
To get captions for games, just press alt+tab while they are running and read what it says in the taskbar. Ahk has some fuzzy logic to search for windows, but for best results make sure the caption is exact.
One of the nice things about this method is once you compile the exe, you can give it a nice icon and the game will essentially be like a pc game.
I hope that helps!
*edit* Adding a hide command hides that unsightly prompt when the loader is first launched.
-
Thanks for this method, it works great! (except Raiden IV). One question: When I try to get the caption for Trouble Witches AC, its just random symbols. I tried using those symbols in the ahk script and it didn't work. Any ideas?
-
Use the class name instead. You can specify the class instead of the title like so:
WinWaitClose ahk_class classname
Where classname is the class name of your window.
Also I made a arcana heart wrapper becuase it's controls are all messed up. Mind you my site is broken so you can't get to it, but it should be floating about in the ether somewhere.

Hm... iRotate works in Cabinet but vertical games wont rotate :( I'm on windows 64 bit, ati 4350. any idea what could cause this?
-
I cannot get the network to work. I set one in slave, the other in master, and it'll say "master not found" But when they are both in master it says "Another master has been detected"

My question is how do you find the game.exe files to play the games or is it like mame where you download them and then play them/

Hey Howard! I realize that there hasn't been a post on this thread for a long time but I didn't want to start a new thread in-case information ended up being duplicated.
You've managed to help me in the past so I'm hoping you can again.
I've came rather late to the Taito type x party but I have some of the games working with slight issues more notably Intro/WMV sequences, as I've noted earlier on in the thread some games eg SFIV hang/crash while playing the intro, my issue is different in that on my rig it skips the intro and the game works flawlessly(although I also note that this may affect the character endings from playing). I've tried the dll file you provided with your wrapper but this actually breaks the game giving me an exception error in the dll library, My rig has win 7 on it which I guess is the root of the problem as the games were designed for xp, I reckon its a directx problem(although saying that I can play the WMV files outside of the games in media player). The reason I think that it is a directx error is because the dll file located in the game directory(d3dx9_36.dll) is correct me if I'm wrong a Directx 9 file, so maybe my win 7 system is missing some directx 9 files? I can't understand why the movies in the games will play in media player but not ingame when they are called by the code, any ideas?
-
Update DirectX (yes, on windows 7 not all files are present) then remove directx dll files from games folders. Try run games again.
-
Show I install dirextx9.0c?
-
You should install full DirectX June 2010
-
Tried the above suggestion, didn't work, I must be missing something else. :(
