I have been lurking around here for a while now, an finally i got my project under way.... heres how it went down...
Started to cut 2 pieces of MDF..:
Found the drawing and begun to draw the side of the cab..
For the curved corners i used a ...Passer, the Danish for it, donīt know the english word...
Cut of the top with a circular saw
(http://www.opdenkelder.com/muerto/arc/gngcab13.jpg)
And woila! one side finished...
Placed the finished side at the bottom and took the last piece of MDF and placed it on top, and used a router for the cut:
From the bottom
(http://www.opdenkelder.com/muerto/arc/gngcab10.jpg)
Yes, two finished sides.
Routed the trench for the T-Mold
(http://www.opdenkelder.com/muerto/arc/gngcab8.jpg)
Made some lists for the cab assembly
(http://www.opdenkelder.com/muerto/arc/gngcab7.jpg)
Assembling, under the lists i used glue for better support, and nailed the whole shabang together from the inside
(http://www.opdenkelder.com/muerto/arc/gngcab6.jpg)
Finished routing the speaker holes..
Final assembling
(http://www.opdenkelder.com/muerto/arc/gngcab4.jpg)
Mounting Bezel supporting lists
(http://www.opdenkelder.com/muerto/arc/gngcab3.jpg)
And, finally, finished
(http://www.opdenkelder.com/muerto/arc/gngcab2.jpg)
And with Marquee and Bezel
(http://www.opdenkelder.com/muerto/arc/gngcab1.jpg)
Modded a TV for monitor use..
First was to disassemble the TV. 20"
Marked up on a piece of 22mm plywood (for strength!)
Frame assembled
(http://www.opdenkelder.com/muerto/arc/gngcab210.jpg)
TV installed
(http://www.opdenkelder.com/muerto/arc/gngcab29.jpg)
Waiting to go in the cab!
Must admit, it very easy to work on a cab when you have a table like this:
Whooops! - to fast with the listīs that holdīs the back door, so had to cut some of it away...
TV markup...
from the other side..
And yes! - Fits like a glove!
almost finished painting..
and FINALLY, finished soldering the edge connector, and hooked it up to the PCB.
Also, thereīs some noice on the picture, but i havenīt connected the Video GND yet...
Is there a way to ajust the picture on the screen??
Edge connector...
Again, picture of the picture off center.... :'( :'( :'(
(http://www.opdenkelder.com/muerto/arc/gngtv1.jpg)
Luckily it was fairly easy for the picture adjustments..
TV Chassis number, which i googled and found the service manual.
the picture on the monitor after the adjustments
(http://www.opdenkelder.com/muerto/arc/tvperfect.jpg)
So, now the only thing stopping the project to get finished is the damn CP!!! :'( :'( :'( :'(

Bloody hell, Muerto! That's awesome!
The Millenium Falcon sized yellow monster is somekind of table saw, right?
And then DeWalt router? My good... You have it all.
Oh and the cabb looks killer too. ;D

:applaud: :applaud: :applaud:
Very nice!
-
Wow, some really nice scratch builds being posted up today. First Bubble Bobble and this Ghost and Goblins one. Excellent work guys, keep it up.
-
Awesome! :applaud:
That TV looks great btw. Very nice picture.
-
Fantastic scratch build of one of my favourite games!
-
Sweet. Ghosts and Goblins is a HELLISH game! So hard it's not even funny. I managed to beat it once for the NES. Has anyone had the problem trying to play it in MAME where it doesn't let you add credits and continue after a game over?
And BTW, this might be the most amazing bit of video game playing ever. No death run of GnG for the NES in 22 minutes. If you've played this game you know how unbelievable this is.
No-death Ghosts N Goblins for NES in 22:56 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLTQRJXzwP0#)
-
Has anyone had the problem trying to play it in MAME where it doesn't let you add credits and continue after a game over?
Only problem I've had playing this in MAME is me being ducking useless at it. I love the game but no matter how much I play, things don't improve. That NES video makes me feel like :banghead:

Certain versions in MAME have issues. One doesn't allow me to insert a credit at all. Try a different version.
-
Thanks to all for the feedback :)
@Kman-Sweden
the yellow monster is a molding machine LINK (http://www.maskinkorekort.dk/Indhold/kehler/kehlerflspind_gen.htm) and was not used in this build..., and allethe other machines are for free use at my work, so it makes it much easyer!
Please, if any of you know where i can find a CP for this game (populated/unpopulated/in bad condition/in whatever condition) please let me know.. atm, thatīs what holding this from being finished...
-
why not ask in the for sale/wanted thread?
its worth a shot.
:)
-
Have you tried on the KLOV forums yet?

Nice job. Really clean work.
-
unbelievable... :applaud:
As for playing GNG...I love the game, BUT I CANT GET PAST THAT DAMN RED DEVIL!!!! :banghead:
-
thanks again guys.
I have just wrote in the Buy/Sell/Trade..
- and i have had a thread asking the same question on KLOV for a week now, without any luck
-
WOW I am in love with this build. Great work.
-
Really, really great work! :applaud:
-

so what other cp's are identical or similar to ghost and goblins?
:)
-
i donīt know, but a CP in the same shape would do fine!
-
Nice job. This is one of my favourite games of all time.
IMHO the mid to late eighties is the golden era of video games. Games from that time were still simple enough to retain the charm of the earliest games but sufficiently complex to provide a lot of replay value.
-
i donīt know, but a CP in the same shape would do fine!
a guy did a bubble bobble cab,it uses the same if not a similar cp,i am sure this is a taito cab with the metal cp?
:)
-
Wow that monitor support looks awesome! Dude you have mad skills.
-
Got the cab home today..... horray!
I made a temporary CP, so i can have some fun while i search for one.... and still need to mount joy stick and buttons... ill do that tomorrow!
applying the NOS side art, and i must say, it makes a huge difference when it was on!
Up and running....
-
Nice job, do you have the original joystick, if so what kind of joystick is it?
-
nope, no joystick, no CP
-
:applaud:
-
Is that a plastic bezel around the monitor behind the artwork? Looks awesome btw.
-
yes, prevents you from looking into the cab.... got it on ebay..

-
Awesome build! :applaud:
Nice attention to accuracy on the layout (btw, passer=compass). Are you working from original cabinet dimensions? (and if so, can you share them?)
The paint job looks really smooth - did you use any special equipment or process?
This is, by far, my favourite arcade game. I spent many hours and quarters on it back around '87 and is one of the few I 'completed'.
I hope to one day do a scratch build too.(and have it come out half as nice).
Here's hoping you'll find a control panel soon.
Don't know if this will be of any use, but these (http://www.quarterarcade.com/Game.aspx/8491) guys appear to have a repro cp overlay.
edit: add url
-
Thanks!
The paint was rolled on, and the paint was oil based gloss 40.
The drawing for the cab can be found here (http://muerto.x10hosting.com/images/arc/gngcabdetail.png)
-EDIT-
And i have the CPO, but thanks for the link.
-
Outstanding finish using a roller :applaud:
Thanks a million for the drawing!
Are you hooking up a coin door?
-
yes, thereīs a coin door in the mail somewhere between the US and Denmark... :)
-
Hi
What a nice and very fast build you have. Amazing
I'm wondering where abouts in Denmark, I'm from Århus my self.
Christian
-
Got joystick and buttons hooked up yesterday, and it played flawless.
later yesterday i hooked up the speakers, and the sound worked 100%
but now, thereīs no sound, is started to make some scratch noises and then disappearing all together, so now thereīs only a faint "sssssss" in the speakers.... any idea why?? - have i fried a chip? (checked my soldering, and thereīs nothing wrong with it...)
-
Have you checked your +5V so it's not too high? What kind of power supply are you using?
-
Hey.
Checked the +5 and it was 5.32, so adjusted it to 5V:
Power supply:
These are the speakers iīm using, i figured they where ok..??
-
have you tried to connect them to another audio device to see if the speakers work?
-
yes, and they work, when i hooked them up to the GnG pcb yesterday they worked...
-
Hopefully, I'm wrong, but I think you might have busted the amp on your PCB. It all depends on how you've hooked those speakers up though.
Here's some examples on how to do it along with an example of how to not do it. The amp wants to get at least 4 ohms apparently.
This is from a Swedish site, so if you can read that there's even more info here: http://cc.arkadtorget.se/speakers.html (http://cc.arkadtorget.se/speakers.html)
-
i hooked them up like the drawing in the middle.. - PARALLEL
i see if i can find the schematics of the PCB, and find that amp...
-
The important thing is that you get 4 ohms.
-
ok, just measured the Ohms, and itīs between 3.8 and 3.9.... - but ill have my brother look at it tomorrow (his an electrician)
-
Hi,
I'm currently working on a GNG themed cab, and have bezel, marquee & side art, but am stuck for CP overlay. Are you planning on putting one on? If so where did you find it? If not, what are you going to do with the CP on this cab?
Thanks in advance.
-
Nice looking cabinet! So simple and clean looking, very pro. You're lucky you have a job that has a woodworking area for you to use!
GnG is a great game, but the ending is ridiculously hard!
If you don't mind me asking, what prompted you to make a reproduction build, instead of finding a GnG cabinet and restoring it?
Availability? New versus Old?
I've been considering a Robotron repro-build myself, since I've been having hard time tracking down a cabinet to restore. But the only thing stopping me is the lack of a real woodworking space, and also being able to find original Wico 4" joysticks for the original feel...
-
If you have the know-how, repros are very cool. I would do one for Rygar if I only had the skill and the space to actually keep it. I already have the PCB, the marquee and the Bezel. :afro:

The reason i build the cab is that i live in Denmark, and i only know of one collector in Europe who owns a "real" Ghost n Goblins cab.
Of course i could import one from the US, but that would be to expensive in the end (freight + tax etc.)

Photo links are all broken.....

fixed :)
-
Any updates?
Sound sorted out? Coin door arrive? Source a CP?
Hopin to see some more GnG goodness.
-
sorry, no updates, i need time!!!! :( :(
I will of course post pics when itīs done (and the process :) )
