Juno First....based on Defender???
« on: July 23, 2003, 10:22:36 am »
I just played Juno First for the "first" time last night....I really enjoyed it and noticed that the sounds and even graphics are very similiar to Defender.  I checked on KLOV and it said nothing about Defender, which is a Williams game, and Juno First is a Konami game.

Am I nuts, or does anyone else see/hear the similiarity....it's like Defender from a different perspective....

Yep... definately Konami's attempt to tap into the Defender croud. I remember going to my local arcade which had both Defender and Stargate side by side and guess what game was parked right next to those two. Yep Juno First. It always managed to get a couple of quarters out of me while waiting to play Defender or Stargate. ;D Obviously the arcade operator put it there cause he knew that it would catch the eye of your average Defender fan. The one I played had the licenced Gottlieb tags on it.

Here's a comment:

Nice try Konami ... but this game sucks compared to Defender/Stargate (take your pick). I never played this game as a kid, but played it last night after reading this post.

2 words - NOT FUN

Just my 2 cents ... not trying to rail on the original post. Your point was a good one and did accomplish getting me to go home and at least try this obscure game.  ;)

Well, I just went and played it and I like it! I don't consider it anything near Defender, just a decent game.

I'll go play some more now. Glad this post came up! I never played this game before.

Well I played it when it first came out and I spent a heap of money on it. Juno First rule!

I can say I actually think I might like it more than Defender/Stargate (don't shoot!)

In Defender, I always ended up going too fast and crashing into something.  I would play a little, but was never hooked.  I've always liked the galaga type shooters, and this one to me is pretty cool...I've got warps, the cool Defender laser sounds all in a galaga type shooting game.....

Glad to see others are checking this out....I always try games I see posts about.  That's another great thing about Mame, there's soo many games out there that every now and then you get to "discover" another fun one....

Later. ;)

I love all three games but probably prefer Juno First, I think because I seem competitive at Juno First but suck at Defender and Stargate.

Growing up in Australia I never saw a Stargate cabinet in an arcade or anywhere else. Not sure if Stargate ever made it here.

I'd say Stargate definately made to Oz as it certainly made to little old New Zealand.
