I first read this thread when it started, and I've just come back to it because I tried to try my "own mod of this mod", based on the initial comments that paper would not be very durable.

I decided to REMOVE the 'normally closed' pin (which I never use), and replace it with a chopped-piece of a regular plastic cable tie.. It is plastic so its much more durable, and it wedges nicely in the spot where the 'normally closed' pin used to be, keeping it in place.

I never expected the thread to get so long-winded and technical though... all very good information, but from my perspective this is an (almost) free 'take it or leave it' mod that you can make (and subsequently reverse if you wish) to your cheap micros.

The micros I use here aren't genuine happ/cherries but you can see the similarities. By my estimation the mod I used halved the pressure required to 'click' the switch, reduced the 'click' volume by 70-80% and COMPLETELY removed the 'return click'.  You can also seemingly modify the 'sensitivity' of the switch based on how far you push the cable tie into the switch.

Thanks to efjayel for a the original great tip!

After receiving the latest cherry switches (with silver tabs and no black lettering) on my Happ buttons, something had to be done. The latest switches have more travel and more clicky noise than I've ever felt or heard in my life. But, I think they were easier to modify. I put a cut piece of small zip tie on the top contact. Super glued in place. It cut the switch time travel down and the button only has a small click. Much, much better!

I messed around w/ some paper in a Cherry switch tonight.  I got it to be nice & quiet & have a smoother feel, with a bit of cut paper.

Any long-term reports on how the paper holds up over time?

Thanks,
-Jason

Howdy-

I printed out & cut & folded all of Tiger-Heli's .5 x .625 rectangles with the center-line fold.

Then I realized that I have Cherry Happ K-series switches & needed the .4 or .2 wide ones.

Sooo, if anybody wants a free set of a full sheet of the .5 x .525 rectangles cut & folded, lemme know.  I'll gladly accept a $1 PayPal donation to cover a stamp & a walk to the local mailbox.

 ;D

Thanks,
-Jason
