Trying to add a game and possibly an emu to my modded xbox
« on: December 09, 2009, 09:36:43 am »
hi, I have a modded xbox and want to add a neo-geo rom (ironlad) to the system. I know VERY little about mame/emulators in general. I have FBA and mame on the cab. The game file is a zip file and works on a neo-rage emulator that I got. I couldn't get it to work on my old mame32 on my old pc. FBA has the game rom files as ini. Mame, has them as zip files. Again, I know very little about mame or any of this. I popped the ironclad zip file on a cd-r and tried to get it into mame via dvd-to-xbox and it wouldn't even read that there was a disc in the drive. My xbox has "Avalaunch" or something like that on the dash when the system boots up.

What am I doing wrong?

What will I need to do to get this game working on my xbox?

Is there any way to just add the neo-rage emulator so the files to get the game working are already there and I don't have to change anything?

Does the game need to be on a dvd for the xbox to read a disc is in?

Will the emulator that's working on my pc be ok on my xbox?

How would you guys go about getting this up and working?

thanks for your time

Is your Xbox attached to a network?  If so, do you know how to use FTP to move files to the Xbox from your computer?

I'd guess that you had someone mod the Xbox for you, right?  Do you have someone who is a little more familiar with this stuff who can show you how to do it?

I don't mean to be harsh, but this might not be the best forum to get help on xbox mods. It is, after all, "Build your own arcade cabinet". There's lots of xbox modder sites out there that might be more help.

Personally, I don't even own an xbox, so I couldn't help with the problem anyway, though, I will say that some of your terminology doesn't seem quite right. For instance...

Quote
FBA has the game rom files as ini. Mame, has them as zip files

If those are the INI files I'm thinking of (typical of pc's), they're just text files and can't possibly contain rom images. They MIGHT be INI files used to describe parameters about some +other+ files that ARE rom images, but that's just a guess.

Mame packages the rom images, as well as other necessary components for a game, into a ZIP file so that it's much easier to deal with. Open one of those zip files up and you'll see what I mean.

Hope that helps, or at least points you in a good direction.

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

yeah, lol, but I don't really deal with mame or computer/file stuff too much. I had someone mod the xbox and asking him is out of the question. I have never done anything with it other than load some hard copy games I own onto the hard drive via the dvd to xbox program to play them on a cab.

I do own 7 arcade cabinets and enjoy customizing them and their control panels. I also like browsing the project forum and the tech folks here are good with monitor problems and wiring, which I have had to deal with plenty fixing up my cabs. I also got help with woodwork a LONG while back.

As far as file names and any type of file changing or something, I'm clueless. So yeah, "emu newb".

I was just hoping there was an easy way to maybe load this file into a folder and move it to where I want it via the file manager program or something....which could be a stupid idea, I don't know.

I don't mean to be harsh, but this might not be the best forum to get help on xbox mods. It is, after all, "Build your own arcade cabinet".

no it isn't, lol...

"Build Your Own Arcade Controls"

thanks for the file info though  ;D

Is the Xbox hooked up to a home network?  Or can it be?

I could run it to my laptop. Right now it's in a cab, wired to boot up once power hits the plug, and goes straight to the emulator.

Do you know how to FTP in from your laptop to the Xbox?  If so, we can get this moving for you.
