I live in a big city, so it's not so much an issue.
Check with your local retailer of plywood for "A-B" plywood. One side is sanded and finished, while the other is rough. Might cost a bit more, but would save you some hassle.
It might be called something different where you are, the local Home Depot calls it "A-B finish", iirc.
