The Latest creation from Kaytrim's Kustoms
« on: October 13, 2009, 12:45:14 am »
It has been quite a while since I have posted about one of my joysticks here.  This one is so unique I just had to share.  I have a more detailed description on my blog but I'll put a few details and pics here.

Curly Maple frame dyed with a custom color created using TransTints.  Each button contains 2 LEDs that light when the button is pressed.  Three other circuits control special LED effects in the bottom, joystick top and artwork.  Each of these effects is controlled by a microprocessor.  This joystick is also wired to work with PS3, XBox 360 and PC.  By pressing or not pressing the middle button on the side when plugging the joystick into a console determines which console pad has control.  The default is the PS3 board.

Here are the pics and a video.

WHOA! That's the ultimate game stick!
That's some fine work, and the wiring and boards you got looks pretty clean for being so much in there! Love the finishing too!

Very nice work Michael, great finish on the timber and use of the LEDS in the artwork, I've come back several  times to check this out.  Artistic and unique for sure.

very nice!  I am sure the kid in the corner is a reference to something that I have not seen but it is a little creepy.  It is an unsettling image with to say the least.

real cool stick though.  I think that was the first time I have seen part of the CP graphic incorporated into the buttons.  Very cool.

What type of joystick is that?  What did you do to it?

Very slick. Love the use of curly maple, and the beveling.

The art... well, not my thing, but glowing eyes are an interesting, nicely subtle effect.

Making the wiring tight and clean was a task.  One thing that helps is the black background and use of black wires and sleeves.

Coming from you Ond, that is high praise indeed.  Thank you.  Curly Maple lends itself well to aniline dye.  It really brings out the figure in the wood.

The art kinda creeped me out too.  But with the LED lighting up the goggles it kinda fits.  The image off to the right is supposed to be what the kid is watching.

The joystick and buttons are Japanese.  The stick is a Sanwa JLF that I drilled out the shaft for the wires. Franco B taught me how to drill the shaft using my lathe. The bubbletop is from Seimitsu who also made the buttons.  The buttons are designed to allow artwork to be inserted as you see here.

Excellent work as per usual bud!  :applaud:

Hey buddy if you can't see the video here follow the link over to my photobucket page.  If you or anyone else can't watch it there I can uploade it to YouTube as well.

I can't watch any type of video's at work and my connection is too slow at home to watch anything.   :(

I should be going to my parents some time this week so I will have a look then

Is that a 3mm slow color change RGB LED in the bubbletop?  The 2 lead type?

Nope, it is a 5mm RGB LED with 4 leads, common ground.  It is controlled by a PIC type chip that I programmed.
