Cube Quest ?
syph007:
Oh right, and Firefox I think. I didn't realize Daphne played all those. I bet they are a the same, and that the MAME team use a very verbose format for the laserdisks to preserve as much as possible.
Neverending Project:
I know one of the differences is that DAPHNE uses mpeg movies instead of the original video format. This means the video has been compressed and is not true to the original quality. Arguments can ensue about comparisons to the original, but the fact is that it is compressed. I don't know anything about the MAME implementation, but I would guess that they are using the original uncompressed video.

I have the files but can't seem to get it running.
Kinda' ironic for a guy who calls himself "MameMaster!" :timebomb:

I've got it running but I only get about 70% of full speed. And that's on a Athlon dual core 4000+. What errors are you getting?
Also, I've got Firefox running at full speed, but just barely. Had to switch to 64bit XP and be sure the multithread switch is set in MAME. Before I did those two things I was at about 90% for Firefox.
bkenobi:
Compression does not have to equal quality loss (think FLAC et. al. for audio). The MAME team did not compress the video using any lossless format AFAIK, they just dumped it straight from the original discs. As a result, the data takes up MUCH more space than the mpg videos. The files I have are definitely compressed in a lossy format, but then they also don't take up 10GB+ on my disc.
I think isucamper answered my question in that Daphne runs full speed and MAME only runs slowly on a fast machine. Thanks!
MameMaster!:
Unfortunately the machine I would play this on is about 6 years old...and before the dual cores came out.
Meh. It will never run fast enough.
Apparently, this game isn't yet available in Daphne. But I read on a forum that it's being "worked on".
