New V tv series

Apparently there is a new V TV series this November. I remember the original mini series as being one of the best sci fi series I had ever seen, and was one of my favorites as a child. I own the two original mini series, and they never gets old to me because the plot was so well developed. Has anyone heard about this new one? I'm hoping it stays pretty true to the original.

That looks interesting.  I, too, loved the mini series.  It's going to be something to see how they do it this time. 

Some of that CGI doesn't thrill me though.

I bought it a few months ago on i tunes. It's rare for it to be shown in re- runs here as well. The main plot served as a metaphor for the Holocaust and Nazi Germany, and was really quite deep. That was lost on me when I was a child, and I have more of an appreciation for it now.

You don't remember "Willy" (Robert Englund... AKA Freddy Krueger) Picking up a mouse by the tail, looking at it and saying the lines "mousey, mousey!" and then swallowing it whole?

I don't recall but watching a few bits and pieces here and there.  The lizard faces ring a bell, but that's about it.

Just watched the clip.  Looks pretty decent.  Was that Kyle Chandler?  If so, he seems to be reallllly trying to make it in some sort of series.  Also noticed the woman doctor from Lost whose name eludes me.  Hope she's not ditching Lost.

The first was in 83 and was called V.  The follow up was in 84 and was called V: The Final Battle.  It was at least as good as the original.  Perhaps if you saw it again, you'd realize that you saw them both.  They do seem to run together because they were written very well, same actors/characters, etc.

Remember it well. The sort of hot lady downing mice was Diana IIRC. Great series, especially in the 80s when we only had 5-6 tv channels here.

Anybody remember the girl having the twin babies, one human/alien (elizabeth??) and the little green lizard?

I always thought the "Final Battle" was BS.

At the end of the first miniseries the resistance found out that the aliens wanted humans for 2 reasons, for food and to fight their enemy, so the resistance sent out a distress call hoping the aliens’ enemy would pick it up.

I figured there were two scenarios for the "Final Battle", the first would be the alien enemy joins forces with the humans or the other would be the enemy is worse than the alien, but the enemy still follows the distress call and the aliens need our help to fight them, and we also need the aliens help to fight them (the devil you know...), so we come to a USA and Russia against Germany type of an alliance to fight them.

Instead of cool hi-tech battle scenes they created a (no special effects needed) disease that only kills aliens.  I was disappointed, the whole star child thing pissed me off too.

I agree with you about the cheesy "sparkly star child ending" it was kind of lame. Interesting you should mention the distress call, and the other aliens. There was a third ending that combines my two ideas to create a better ending.

In my defense I was only 13 when I thought about the first two scenarios.

Cripes...I have a short memory.  I watched the entire season about two months ago.    I won't write her off just yet...at least in the current living dimension or whatever.

It was trippy for average TV folk, yeah, but totally ridiculous for anyone even somewhat versed in science. Too many ways.

You want a story about RESOURCES, check out HEART OF THE COMET, by David Brin and Gregory Benford. Even though twenty years old, I bet some things in it would trip out most cyber-experienced folk.

The scene you refer to features a young blond haired visitor, perhaps Brian (Robin's soon to be boyfriend/lover at the hands of the evil Diana) who gets in trouble after a night of drinking with Daniel, a earthling of Jewish descent who aspires to be great among the "Visitor Youth League" (seems that's what it was called).  At any rate, Brian is wondering around the dumpsters calling "Here mousey" as you stated, the whole while a wino under the nearest bridge is watching.  He finally finds the mouse, unhinges his jaw, and swallows it whole...at which point the wino near about loses the whole bottle.

No, the classic scenes with Willy involve him working at the plant with Caleb's Dad (who is black) and a young earth woman whose name I forget...in fact, these plant scenes are the first time we meet Englund's alien.  The earth woman finds Willy wandering around the plant, and when he approaches her, he explains "Excuse me. I am just." She say "You are just?", to which he replies, "yes, just." For a while, he cannot make her understand, because his command of our language is not good yet...but finally in his frustration, explains by pointing to a map that he is supposed to be there, at which point the lady responds, "Oh, LOST!" and he answers "Yes! Lost! I am lost!"

He winds up, as I said, working with Caleb's dad, a black man - who already afraid of the Mexicans coming in- now fears for his job and losing it to these visitors. However, Willy saves his life when a vat of freezing gas explodes, trapping several workers...it is here, however, that Willy's true identity is almost revealed as the gas causes the fake skin over the reptile's hand to bubble and nearly burst open - Willy is wisked quickly off to a visitor medical center on a nearby ship....and that is the last we see of him for a while.  I just remembered the chick's name that befriends him in the film also, I think...her name was Harmony, if memory serves me correctly. Willy will reappear and become one of the resistance movement later on.  I remember when I learned it was "Willy" under all that goop playing Freddy Krueger....what a change of direction!

That "hot babe" mentioned earlier swallowing the mouse was Diana, the visitor's head scientist and second in command only to John.  She was played to the hilt by Jane Badler. Michael Ironside played Ham Tyler, the "Clint Eastwood" wannabe of the resistance, that befriends Mike (Marc Singer) and Julie (Faye Grant).  Actually, Mike and Ham aren't friends; we'll learn later that....oh well, enough already big mouth. '

EDIT: At any rate, the new series looks very promising.  Will be tuned in to watch, just as we were in the 80s.  We used to have "V" parties every Friday night at our house...a friend of mine, young lady who I was interested in at the time was over one night and watched with us....and she became so addicted to the show that she was back every Friday night for the length of the series.

Oh yeah! Your right, it wasn't Willy eating the mouse! What's sad about that is I just watched it again 4 months ago. I must be getting old or something!  At some point Willy gets captured by the resistance and they were going to do some experiments on him, but decide not to for some reason. He winds up on their side somehow. If I remember correctly he just sort of befriended all of them.

As far as Lost is concerned, I would tend to think that we will see the character Juliet (Elizabeth Mitchell) next season. As I understand it, next season will be the last for Lost. If I had to guess they have probably filmed them all, or considering that there is a long time between seasons, she probably has more then enough time to do both shows.

Yea, I'm finding that the quality of these streaming shows has improved dramatically these last few years. I was catching up on another show from ABC called "Defying Gravity" last night that I just heard about, and it stuck me that the quality has gotten to a point now, where I no longer find it distracting.

The 1st of the three was shortened thanks to the strike. The last 2 were extended by 2 hours each.

Yes, it's a pretty decent show. I think that it will only improve as it gets going a bit. I missed the pilot and I can't seem to find it online anywhere, so I am still a bit fuzzy as to what is going on. I gather that they are on a 6 year trip to Venus, Mercury and the outer solar system.  I'm hoping next week we get a better idea of what this Beta?? Theta?? thing is in Pod 4.
