Ms Pacman not running full speed?
« on: July 12, 2003, 12:40:58 am »
Ms Pacman runs smoothly on my machine, but it seems to me that it's not moving as fast as it should. Was the original really that slow? Am I just used to hack versions or what? Is there any way to speed it up?? I've had more than one friend complain (as if they could do better.) :P

To enable the speedup, ensure that 'cheat' is set to '1' in your mame.ini file.  When you load up the Pac rom, enter the game menu (Tab) and go into the dipswitch settings and set the speedup cheat to 'ON'.  That's how the Pac games are supposed to be played...     :)

Also many operators tripped button 1 (a pacman cab lacks any action buttons)  which makes pacman /ms pac run faster.  So press button 1 and see if that feels more familiar.

Those are 2 very helpful tips. I'll give them a try.

Ok I tried it and it worked. Found out that pressing p1 doesn't help unless cheats are enabled, anyways.

I've never used cheats before, though. Does this affect gameplay adversely in other games? I'd rather just leave it on in the INI, but not if it's going to cause problems. What exactly are "cheats"?

P.S. Some day you will be wrong, Howard. And when you are... I'll be there to catch you!

hehe, it'll never happen - HC's like a walking Encyclopedia!
