Edit the CatVer or DAT?
« on: July 09, 2003, 11:06:13 am »
Can anyone that can point me in the correct direction.  I want to add some details to my emu's (other than Mame) to be displayed in MameWah.  I edited the Dat file for Zinc to change the description and that worked, but when i tried editing the Cat file it gave me errors when refreshing.  I tried using the "driver ( )" command since it isn't used by Zinc to put in my own notes.  What do i have to do or edit to get some of my own personal notes in?

Unless someone knows where Nes, Snes... Dat files are.  Does anyone know what the NMS files are that MameWah asks for?

What 'details' do you want to add?  The only fields that will accept just a string are description, manufacturer and category.  You have probably got these in action already.  The other fields are all expected to be in a certain format (ie you can't use them for anything other that what they were intended).

NMS files can be used for emulators that do not accept long filenames, in order to display the correct game description (rather than short romname).  I don't think this can help you :(

MinWah,

The case that i was going to use it was for Zinc and note in the roms that have sound or not.  Then maybe someday put some junk in for the Nes and SNES... I don't know of any Cat files for the other emus (besides the one i ran into for Zinc).
Regarding a NMS file, i could use that for the z26 emu cause it doesn't accept spaces.  Know anywhere i can get one?

I would suggest using the driver section, as in MAME like this:

driver ( status good color good sound good palettesize 16 )

It is important that you keep it the same...for your purposes just change the 'sound good' part to 'sound preliminary' for games that apply.  You'll probably end up with 'General Status' and 'Color Status' filters too (which are a bit useless in this case).

Depending what you want to add for NES/SNES, you *may* be able to add it somewhere.  The manufacturer part would accept a string (again, copy the format from MAME -listinfo).

Yes, 2600 emus are ideal for using an NMS file with...see the attached (rename to .nms)
