Recycled Star Wars MAME *pics
« on: August 02, 2009, 08:41:08 am »
Instead of doing a new project, I decided to update my Neon Mame with a new theme.  Here is my original design...
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=68135.0
I still like the look of the original, but just wanted to do something new.  Vlad and Scott @ MameMarquees did the design work and printing, and I feel it came out great.  I did switch out some hardware, including the installation of Ultralux button and a new Ipac.  I also upgraded my PC to accomodate SFIV.  Here are some pics.

As a huge Star Wars geek, I love it!  Great work on the side art and the CPO.  I like how you didn't feel the need to make the trackball part of the art, as in like the Death Star "eye" or anything like that.  You first theme was well executed, but this is top notch!  I especially like the phasing of the light vs. dark style with the different light up buttons.  I admit, I am not a fan of lit up buttons, but this works perfectly.  I find them to be too distracting, but that is just my opinion.

I'm sure this is a stupid question, but where did you get those curved marquee holders? Or did you just bend them yourself with a tool of some sort?

Holy cow, you and I must have been on the same wavelength or something.  That is almost the exact design I originally thought about for my new project, including the lit deathstar on the side, the red and blue buttons (which I have), and everything.

Guess it's a good thing I didn't pursue that theme...  I would have felt duped to find another cabinet that looked so similar.   :P

Looks fantastic!

My ONLY minor criticism is that I would have like to have seen something more original on the Marquee art.  The whole "MAME" thing is getting a little worn out IMO.  But, again, I'm nit picking...  It really looks GREAT!

I love the curved marquee, and I too would like to know how it was done...

Very nice.  I'm glad to see a well done Star Wars themed cabinet.

I really like how you worked the Death Star into your side art.

Thanks for the kind words.  The game is Street Fighter IV, and the pinball is an Ultrapin (virtual pinball) that has been pimped out completely with a 28" monitor for the backglass and 1080p 32" for the playfield.  It runs Hyperpin and plays around 500 games or so.
To make the curved marquee holder, just cut triangular knotches on the bottom of the 90 degree plastic all the way around.  I'll post a pic to give a better idea.

Ah ok, so it's plastic. I thought you bent an L-shaped aluminium bar with that curve.

It's the same "rounded corner" trick we need to use for T-molding if I understand you correctly.
