question about merit megatouch
« on: June 29, 2009, 11:15:50 am »
Hello folks,

The other day l purchased a used merit megatouch for my game room at a flee market.
It's an older 1999 circa unit in pretty decent shape and works great.
It looks just like the one pictured here:

I've never owned one of these so please excuse my ignorance here, but to power the unit off am l just supposed to flick the power switch in the back, or is there a shut down option in the menu somewhere that l'm missing; knowing that it's just a computer inside of that box makes me a little weary of just flicking the power switch to shut it down and l'd thought l'd ask you guys just to make sure l'm doing it right!

Thanks everyone,

Kevin Mullins

Just flick the switch.
That's all there is.

Great thanks man!

Another little follow-up question that's a tad more techincal...
The speakers in the front under the monitor sometimes sound like a coffee machine brewing ... any idea what could be causing that? Is it dangerous? Should l try to disconnect the wires going to these speakers?

They could be dry rotted and torn......... but you would have to look to see for sure.

Cool thanks for your help, l'll work on taking a look and replacing them as time permits. In the mean time; if it were dry rot/torn is it dangerous to continue using the machine?

Having owned one of those old megatouches before, my speakers sounded exactly the same. I had the volume turned all the way down on mine, and it was still loud. It also sounded horrible like that. Crank the sound up and see if that helps. They were made to be heard in a noisy bar.  :banghead:

There are 2 types of volume controls on the megatouch.

The gain for the amplifer is adjusted with a pot on the I/O board
and the volume is adjusted by the software through either the
operator or 6 star menus.
