Ms Pacman Help

I have just gotten my first arcade Ms Pacman for free. And just at I suspected it doesn't work.  Plugged it in and no sound and no picture.  I got the monitor to work, the connector to the monitor had a loose wire.  The monitor still looks like it is almost shot.  The screen is a faint yellow and blurry. I adjusted the monitor and the monitor will go from completely black to a bright by the turn of the pot.  If I change the dip switch to Free Play  the game does not respond or if I switch it back to coin play and insert the coins it still doesnot play.  Plus there is no sound.   The screen doesn't show any of the intro and is showing the last screen played.  I checked the voltage at the transformers and they are correct and after the fuses and the voltage is correct.  I did search how to trouble shoot and I found that on the board it is showing C2 5vDC, C3 5VDC, D3 12.5 VAC, D4 12.8VAC, D7 7.4VAC,D8 7.4 VAC, C10 7.7VAC. From my reading I have noticed that a lot of fuse blocks has caused troubles so I was going to change them out today.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Flat, I commend you on the best "first post" of this kind I have ever read. Sounds like you have gone through all the steps that we usually have to guide a newbie through. You're obviously not a newbie, or you really did your homework!

Anyways, how about a screen shot of the screen so we can see what you mean by "last screen played".

The discoloration and blurriness might be repairable with a simple capkit, and probably also needs a new flyback (just guessing). Did you get it to focus at all when you adjusted "focus" ? What kind of monitor? They usually have Electrohome G07-___ in there.

Thansk, I like to try and figure things out on my own first before I ask for help.  Its always a last resort.  I will post a pic of the screen shot tonight when I get home.  I tried the focus and it didnt seem to help anything.  I could get the screen to move vertically and horizontally but not change of the colors.

A few thoughts...

Firstly If you didn't already find this website A very good resource for trouble shooting Ms. Pac-Man issues : http://www.arcadegameover.com/pactrouble.html

After sifting through that you have a few potential solutions :

Did you trace all of the wires from the harness to the correct components, I know it sounds silly but sometimes the smallest dumbest things are the first things to look for. Is the Harness connected properly etc..

If your game doesn't have any sound, and you don't see a picture I would think it's the PCB and not the monitor , could be both especially if you said you were getting the correct power readings from your multimeter. However I'm slightly confused though because you said you see the last screen played, are you talking about burn-in ?  It's possible it might just be synch wire, (but it would still be playing blind) since you said a monitor wire was loose. Or the Monitor is in need of repair and potentially could use a cap kit, flyback etc.. I personally wouldn't keep adjusting the monitor especially if you suspect the PCB is bad.. Because you might end up making matters worse.

Just tossing this out there I know someone that does Ms. Pac-Man Board Repairs for a very reasonable 35.00 you just pay shipping both ways. If you want to keep things original..

 Alternatively you can also always buy a Pac to JAMMA adaptor and test a random JAMMA game in that cab. Install a 60-1 etc.. http://www.lizardlick.com/Lizard-Lick-Deluxe-Jamma-to-Pac-Adapter_p_118.html


If the game has the original power supply , I just installed one of these :
 

It gives you a newer more reliable switching power supply. Arcadeshop.com sells them, they are 45.00ea called : "Ms. Pac-Man Power Supply Conversion Kit"

No, I havent seen that site. Yes, I have traced all the wires/connectors, It is an original uncut wire harness.  I think that you are right and it may be burn  because if I turn the monitor off I can still see the traces of the gaming screen. Which I would think I would see just a black "blank " screen.   I do not know what a JAMMA game is.  I will have to look into that.  Shot me an email to rhill5060@charter.net,  I would be interested in getting the original repaired if possible.

OK so basically if you were to JAMMAtize it you can play other games inside keeping all of the wiring original, and also keep your original board set inside the cab. The most popular JAMMA board now I would say is the 60-1 which allows you to play 60 games inside the cabinet the list includes

Yeah, that's screen burn. You're not getting any graphics display at all. Screen burn is there forever. Only way to get rid of it is replacing the tube or the whole monitor. So anyways, I would stop fiddling with the monitor since your problem lies with the game board, or the connection from the gameboard to the monitor.

RayB that is kind of what I was thinking.  The wires that connect from the board to the monitor do you know how to check to makes sure that I am not getting a signal to the monitor?

The more I look at your photo, the more I think I see really blurry image of some kind (color?). You did mention there is yellow after all... Take a pic in the dark? Also a pick of the back of the monitor where the wires connect to it.
