Tax refund delay
« on: March 18, 2009, 06:21:27 pm »
My tax refund was suppose to be direct deposited into my checking account on March 13th, but I still haven’t received it.

Figures it'd have to be a Friday the 13th.

I really hate the idea of calling the IRS, because it's probably just a routine delay and by calling them I'm no longer flying under their radar.

But if there is a problem or if it's been deposited into the wrong account I need to fix it.

You can check that sort of thing out online ya know......

https://sa2.www4.irs.gov/irfof/lang/en/irfofgetstatus.jsp

And was the bank account in YOUR name ?
Double check the bank information you used. (routing number etc)

And there is a calendar out that shows that if you did your taxes on XX date you will see a deposit on or about XX date type thing.

When I got home after I posted this I got a monthly bank statement in the mail.

I got my refund a week before I was supposed to.  My mortgage company also cashed my check that same day.  There was a $200 difference between the two, so I didn't notice the change in my balance.  I printed out a transaction receipt on the following Friday and on Monday, but even though both transactions happened the week before, neither of them showed up on the receipt.

Phew!

OK. Thank you for contacting us about this. We'll get on that right away.

I was more worried about it going like this....

Ok, thanks for contacting us about this.  I’ll transfer you to another department where you can schedule an a point with one of our agents, please have all your tax information for the last 7 years on hand.

Refund?  What's that?

An actual real job, no house, no kids, and no deductions put me over a barrel this year.

 :P

Dont cry about that too much.  Getting a refund only means you paid in too much during the year.  Its not a gift and one could argue your in better shape having that money during the year rather than floating the Gov an interest free loan.  However, for many undiciplined savers, I suppose its a way to "save" money.  But usually those same people immediately turn around and blow that refund anyway.  People often dont realize what a tax refund actually is.....a refund of money you shouldnt have had to pay in the first place.

I usually end up paying between $2000-3000 every April.  I wonder if someone in the IRS opens my payment and gets all excited about blowing the whole thing on a bank bailout or something.  It's like free money, right?

The irony is that I pay taxes on the interest I make on the money Uncle Sam loaned me for free.  If AIG could figure out how to make that work for them maybe they'd turn a profit.

Now that I know the mortgage is paid and the money in my checking account isn't already spent I'll be booking my week long Mexican vacation this weekend.

By the way, how much did you "money smart" guys make on your 401ks and all of your other investments?

OooooOoooh, Mex-i-co...   It sounds so simple I just got to go...

On a side note, are you serious about going to Mexico? I wouldn't due to safety concerns. Elsewhere in South America, but not Mexico not right now.

Yeah, if it were up to me, we wouldn't be leaving the USA.
My concerns over the Mexican drug war weren’t taken seriously by the group.
Without going into too much detail, I’m going with a group of people from Chicago.

We're going to be south of Cancun, so hopefully the fighting stays in the North, or it'd be even better if it were over before we go.

On the plus side, right now a Mexican vacation is really cheap...

I can only speak for myself but I think generally we're willing to wait this out.  I'm young enough that I see a crippled Dow as an incredible opportunity and I've been putting everything I can into it while it's down.

F'n Mexicans!!!

If it's not the homicidal drug lords it's the contagious pigs.

Next year I'm not even going to pretend to have a relaxing vacation I'm just going to book an all inclusive luxury cruise along the shores of Somalia.

My thoughts on Mexico:

Corrupt government & police = why give them any of your F'n money?
Drug Lords = Why go to an unstable country?
Swine Flu = What more do you need to avoid this place?

Thats why I get my coke, bacon & vacation in Idaho (jk).
