converting golden tee 98 to mk1 or mk3
« on: May 12, 2009, 01:57:26 am »
I just got my fist cab a month ago (MK2)and want to get a couple more. I found a golden tee 98 and it looks like its in an old midway mk or ki cab. How difficult would it be to covert it back to mk1 or mk3? I am pretty new to this stuff. i have made a new cpo from plexi and installed a new marquee balast but never touched the pcb or jamma harness. What is involved to convert it back? What parts would i need? Any help would be appreciated. Here is a pic of the cab.

thanks.

Depends on how accurate you want to make it and which MK you want to put in it. The low kick harnesses are different for one. It's not really difficult at all. If you can shoot me some more details, I can help you out. I am kind of an MK guru.
Current collection - 28 cabs, 4 pins. (32 machines and not enough room)

im thinking mk1 most likely. Its really the wiring im not sure about. Ive never touched my mk2's insides so thats where i would need help. After i buy the pcb for mk1 what kind of other stuff would i need?  I assume i would need the joystick and button assemblys but how do i convert from a trackball unit?

If the installer left all the original wiring in the cabinet, you won't need anything but the PCB and a new control panel. I need more info on the condition of the cab.

why bother with MK1?  UMK3 is the best game in the series and has tons of characters, I doubt you'll actually play mk1 very much.

Not really true, everyone has their preference.  I find MK1 & MKII really good, where as I really dislike MK3/U 's gameplay.

convert it to a KI1/KI2, then you can have a JAMMA+ and can drop in stuff like CPS & CPS2 with a hand 2x3 layout
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

I play mkI all the time! Something about it that is so basic that I find it enjoyable, plus I think mkI had the best fatalities.

MK1 & 2 for the win! 3 & UMK3 are alright.....but 1 & 2 were the pinnacle of the series for me at least.

From looking at the pic of the Golden Tee I don't think thats a MK cab. I could be wrong but MK1 has angled sides near the coin door. All the same it would be VERY easy to convert as long as GT is Jamma (and it should be) Nice find though and good luck.....

BTW I'll have to side with Tcleary on this one I enjoy UMK3 the most with MK2 being my second favorite.

There's one of these in a 2nd hand place near where I live. Trouble is they want £250 pounds for it!
I think that is far too much personally.

What is a good price for it?

Mind you, I'm not sure I would be 'allowed'

I would like both a vertical display machine AND a horizontal one though...
