Farewell Pongo!
« on: March 30, 2009, 03:22:27 pm »

My pet parrot Pongo died over the weekend.

The house has been really quiet without him, even though I still have 2 more birds. I guess he was the ringleader of all the noise.

I think I'll miss most the extra police sirens he would do while I played GTA!

Sorry to hear it.  What kind of parrot is he?  I have a gold-capped conure.  Sweet bird.

Sorry for your loss.

Is _ongo a common way to name parrot?

My friend had an parrot named Congo.  It was an African something or other.  He was green.

My friend was doing lawn work around the house with Congo on his shoulder.   The feathers were trimmed or what every you do to limit their ability to fly, but a huge gust blew him away.  My friend said he was flying more like a balloon and looked like a fish out of water than a bird.  Congo went over a forest preserve across the street and my friend never saw him again.

My friend would let it sit on a perch on top of the cage.  When it got use to me being in the house it would fly off its perch walk across the room and climb up the sofa to sit with us while we watched TV.

He was a funny bird, if they weren't so expensive and were easier to take care of I'd have gotten one.

Yea, I know that feeling! There were times I wish I could shut him up!

Dunno about the names,... Pongo is just something that I thought would be a fun name, and it stuck.

He was just a little guy, a parrotlet. They are pretty small, but he definitely thought he was the big guy in the house. We also have Senegal parrots, which are about the same size as a conure.

The cool things about Pongo was how much energy he always had. He'd act like the bigger birds too, by holding things with his feet among other things. He also had the biggest word/sound vocabulary, even teaching the others to say a few things. It's weird to have the senegal say english words, but in the voice of the parrotlet!

And his favorite thing to eat was,... chicken! Does that make him bad, or me for feeding it to him?

I always wanted a parrot. My friend had one and everytime it would speak I actually thought it was my friend speaking. Was actually quite scary how they can mimic a voice. They are really cool pets! At least you have some great memories!
