Well Gardner U5000 issues
« on: March 09, 2009, 08:54:52 am »
I have a WG U5000 monitor that was squished at the bottom of the screen.  I called WG and bought the 3 service kits and a cap kit.  I installed all three kits and the cap kit.  Upon firing the monitor up, the bottom of the screen was still squished, and the image was upside down.  I figured I had hooked the yoke wires up backwards, so I removed the yellow & green yoke wires and reversed them.  The image now was correct vertically, but was backwards left to right.  SO, I grabbed the red & blue yoke wires and reversed them.  Of course I did it powered up and when I did this last swap, the monitor went blank and will not power up.  No neck glow, nothing.

Can someone send me in the right direction.

Thanks!

the U5000 does not like anything like this done to it,I should know I blew the crap out of one by leaving the control pcb disconnected
It could anything causing this,my guess though is that the HOT has blown
the only advice i can give is go to the WG website and download the repair guide and go through everything relevant to your fault

Never never never never never connect/disconnect the yoke or the remote adjustment board while the monitor is powered up!
Severe damage may result.

as per Grant,  hot failure.

removing the h yoke connection greatly increased the "on time" for the xistor .
the increased current/thermal load caused it to fail.

note: there is roughly a 1200vpp pulse present on the the xistor side of the h yoke.
so, you really don't want to mess with it while active circuitry ...  ;)
