mamewah...maybe i'm just retarded, but please help!
« on: June 29, 2003, 09:37:03 pm »
alright, yes i'm new, but don't slam the door please.  been using Mame32 for quite a while, and that works fine.  but im going to be getting a cab soon and want a nice GUI thats not too windows-esque, thus i pick mamewah.  anyway, i cant seem to get my games to come up on the mamewah screen.  am i just totally being stupid?  every time i push "1" on "refresh games list NOW"  it cuts me out of the mamewah program and back to Mame itself, as if it is going back to the mame program to find the games.  what am i missing?  i cant seem to find a way to change the directory of mamewah so that it looks in my roms folder.  whats going on?  how do i fix this.  and please, dont call me stupid or i just might not be able to take it :)

oh and by the way, i didnt download the new Beta version since they said it was buggy.  i have the .90 version.

okay, i guess im just stupid cuz i still dont know what to do.  i read your post and all the responses several times, but am still confused of what exactly i need to do.  do i need to create a seperate file or something?  do i have to go into mamewah itself to do this, or is this something i have to do in windows?

well i was playing around with it, and you said something about a batch file disappearing, so while the program was running, i pushed alt+tab and got into my mame folder where my mamewah files are, and right clicked on a batch file titled "NULL", but didnt get a menu or anything.  but then all of a sudden, all my games appear in the mamewah menu.  huh???  whatever.  so i exited mamewah to see if a new file appeared, and nope, nothing new was there.  what the heck happened to make my games appear?  well, i just tried to select one of my games in my new list, only when i press "1" it takes me back to mame to select it.  the "NULL" batch file is still there, and went in with "edit" and found this...."CD C:\EMULAT~1\MAME
C:\EMULAT~1\MAME\MAME32.EXE > C:\EMULAT~1\mame\NULL
EXIT"  whats all this supposed to mean, and how can i fix it.  bluntman you still out there?

Are you still using MAME32?  If so, then I'd recommend changing to the Windows commanline version of MAME.

Also, please use the latest version of MAMEWAH, v0.951b.  I know what it says on my download page, but to be honest it is pretty stable, and most people seem to be using it now.  It is easier for me to answer Q's also, since I have gotten used to it, and forgot what v0.90 was like  :D

Start a fresh, and let us know if you have any probs...

Okay, I just installed Mamewah this weekend and have been tweaking it...  .951 or whatever.

Go to your command line (dos box) and go to the folder where your mame.exe is (mine's in the mame32 folder) and type (i think) MAME -listinfo > listinfo.dat

This will create a file of all the info that mamewah needs.

It took me like 30 minutes to figure this out because very few posts on this board give you the "> listinfo.dat" part... so my screen was full of goodies for a while...

After that, go to Games List options in mamewah, and make sure that the way to get the list made is roms vs. list or something (NOT IN FRONT OF mamewah right now, all from memory)...  And then try to update the list again.

If I'm way off, i'll check it when i go home and edit this post to help further.

The creating your own DAT file using mame -listinfo bit is NOT required in v0.951b (although it was in v0.95b)...

Switch the 'List Generation Method' to 'ROM Folder vs Listinfo (M.A.M.E.)' and then refresh the list.

Of course before that, check your ROM path etc. are correct...
