Nintendo DSi any thoughts?
« on: February 19, 2009, 05:26:34 pm »
I've been reading up on this and so far While the idea of a new DS appeals to me it doesn't seem to offer enough to make it worthwhile.

I've been thinking about getting into the DS Lite homebrew and the Gameboy advance slot is pretty useful. Not to mention that there are a bunch of new games for the DS that use the GBA slot as a port for peripherals Guitar hero for example.

If I picked one up I am inclined to want the newest version, but its faster GPU and bigger screens and SD slot don't seem all that better than just a DS lite with a homebrew card.

What do you guys think?

I think it's too expensive for a relatively small upgrade to the DS.  It's initial success will depend if Nintendo packs a killer app along with it.  Of course I'm not exactly a good one to ask since I still have an original DS (never saw the point of getting a DS Lite).

Whether or not I upgrade will probably depend on how good the downloadable games are.  I know my company is going to have one launch title for the system (which looks like it will be a fun game), but I haven't heard of any other downloadable games in development for it yet.

Definitely too expensive.

Especially in today's economy.

I already have 1 original and 2 Lites, and what is upgraded on the DSi isn't really worth the cost.

I will happily wait for a major price drop or the true next generation of Nintendo handheld.

If you sat a DS next to a DSlite, you would understand why a DS lite is a worthy upgrade.

I also think the cameras are going to be as 'well utilized' as the mic was on the DS (seriously - I think that weird Sega launch game where you blew out candles is the only one I've played that used it!).

OBJECTION!

You could use it on Phoenix Wright.

Yeah, as well as on Mario Kart, where you had to blow up your own balloons in battle mode.

I have enjoyed the use of the mic on the DS, but yeah it hasn't been very widely used to be worth any sort of extra cost.

I have a feeling the camera would be used even less than the mic.

You guys pretty much mirror my thoughts...

I wonder if the DS lite price will drop after launch?

The only way this thing is worth it, is if someone figures out how to load retail games from the SD card :)

Or if it would play media directly from the SD card out of the box.
