My CPO design thread
« on: February 18, 2009, 06:03:39 am »
With Spring right around the corner, I've got arcade projects on my mind once again. This time, my plans are a bit less ambitious though, as I'm planning to make a pair of fighting sticks for my two brothers as birthday presents. I'm currently planning to use the popular "picture frame" design, since that seems to be very well liked amongst fighting game enthusiasts. I just finished making one of the CPOs, and figured I'd share it here since there's a 99% chance that my brothers won't be looking at this board and have the surprise spoiled.

OK, a bit of background-- my older brother is a HUGE fan of the Scott Pilgrim comic series, and he also loves Street Fighter. So I figured, why not combine the two for a wonderful mish-mash of video-game / comic-book goodness? I wanted to stay as faithful to the comic character design as possible, but I also wanted to incorporate some of the style seen in Udon's Street Fighter art, since this is a Street Fighter themed Scott Pilgrim image. I also stuck the Japanese Kanjis "Su Kou To" (Scott) and "Pilgrim" in the corner. My calligraphy skills probably look comparable to those of a 6 year old to someone fluent in Japanese, but hopefully it looks decent to the untrained eye. The overall idea was that this would be sort of a parody of the images that are frequently found on custom fighting sticks. It took about 5 hours to make.

Here's a picture of Scott Pilgrim from the comics, for those of you who may be unfamiliar with the series (if that's you, then check it out, it's awesome!).
