Consider this a beginner's question: Software load and config
« on: February 14, 2009, 12:50:46 am »
I got my first cabinet a couple of months ago.  It is a homebrew with a Tankstick.  Works great but I'm building a pc to replace it with updated hardware.

I put together a pc with XP MCE 2005.  I followed a guide (Uncle T's I think) for creating the directory structure and obtained the updated versions of the emulators plus a few that weren't on the walkthrough.   I've got MAME working (CMD line) and Vpinball.   Future pinball is a little flakey right now, but can be corrected with one good sitdown.   Now I'm working on the SNES emulator and am at a point to where I need to consult their forums.

That brings me to the real question and reason for this thread.  How long does it usually take you to load the software and get it configured?   Hours, weeks, months, it never ends.....

If you try AtomicFE 's Ultimate Distribution... you will save lot of time.

115 emulators are preconfigured for you. You have just to put Rom and Bios.

Thanks for the heads up on AtomicFE.  I'm dl'ing the files right now.

I am liking the Hyperspin FE.  But it runs chuncky on my machine.   I'm using GameEx right now.  It's not bad at all.   But I don't like the way it handles the Jukebox function.   I may try to see if I can call a good Jukebox FE (like one of the guys on this board).

I just feel like I've been spinning my wheels and not really getting anywhere.

If you like hyperspin effect,  Last version of AtomicFE (including the last patch)  can do the same kind of layout (except the spin)  , on a 600 Mhz machine and 256 mega de ram (even less).

We currently working hard on creating layouts for the entire MameSet. (we are now covering about 300 games)
Therefore as we are still working on that, these layout pack is not yet released for public. But you want really try , just PM me.

Did you try also Khameleon Front End?  He is able to run Hyperspin layout directly i think.

youki,

I had youtube'd AtomicFE and saw the new layout.   I really liked that and that was one of the reasons why I'm giving it a whirl.

It will probably be a few weeks before I have it in and configured the way I want it.   Time to work on this is minimal :(   But I'm looking forward to how it will call PC games and maybe UncleT's jukebox.

Thanks for the input.   It is appreciated!!!
