Author Topic: how do I get ledblinky (color.ini) to match the buttons I have configured?  (Read 6647 times)

I'm using mala (I would love to be able to do this in mame32 though) and I've managed to figure how to show button colors with the use of colors.ini but it's not matching/mapping to the way I have the buttons configured.

My layout is like this:

 p1   a1 a2   p2
 567             567
 234             234
1                 1

Right now it shows the p1 and p2 buttons as a1 and a2, what do I need to do to correct this?

Also how can I specify certain button layouts for specific games and have the colors match as well?

Make sure your Device/Port input map is correct - the LEDs must be assigned to the same keycodes as the keyboard encoder. If you turn on the Debug/Verbose option (Misc Options tab), run a game, then post or email the debug.log file, I should be able to solve the problem.

By the way, you can use LEDBlinky with Mame32. From the FE menu, select 'Other' and from the Mame tab, check the 'Use MAME to Trigger Game Start/Stop Events' option. Then run LEDBlinky.exe before you start Mame32. But you won't be able to use any of the FE options.

Ok, if I understand correctly, this is how your panel is wired:
P1B1 --> Joystick 1 Button 1
P2B1 --> Joystick 2 Button 1
A1 --> Mouse Button 1
A2 --> Mouse Button 2

And you're seeing all four of these buttons light up even though you only want P1 and P2 to light up - correct?

Here's the problem - By default, mame uses the following input codes for P1B1, P1B2, and P1B3:
P1_BUTTON1: KEYCODE_LCONTROL, JOYCODE_1_BUTTON1, MOUSECODE_1_BUTTON1
P1_BUTTON2: KEYCODE_LALT, JOYCODE_1_BUTTON2, MOUSECODE_1_BUTTON3
P1_BUTTON3: KEYCODE_SPACE, JOYCODE_1_BUTTON3, MOUSECODE_1_BUTTON2

So on your cp, P1B1 and MouseB1 do the same thing (same for P1B3 and MouseB2) - correct? I guess I really need to know how you have your buttons wired.

I multiple issues but the first one is that P1 start doesn't light up, instead mouse1 lights up (and the same goes for player 2, mouse2 lights but not P2 start).


The second issue is that colors.ini lights do not correspond to my button layout. For example, on sf2 the buttons that light up are 1-4,5,6 but because of my layout I need buttons 2-4, 5,6,7 to light up.

To light up P1 and P2 start, check the "Light Player Start and Coin Buttons" option on the Game Options tab. The mouse buttons will continue to light up until you deassign them from P1B1 and P1B3 in mame.

I'm wondering if you have LEDBlinky pointing to the correct mame cfg folder? Is MaLa running mame from this folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\vw\Desktop\mame32\MameUI32
If not, that would explain why the buttons are not lighting correctly.

Sorry, somehow I missed a few lines in the log - I do see that you have the player start and coin option enabled. Looks like you're using JOYCODE_1_BUTTON8 and JOYCODE_2_BUTTON8 for the start buttons. So you need to change your input map (which is currently using JOYCODE_1_START and JOYCODE_2_START). That should fix the player start buttons.

I just realized that you're using a new mame .129. LEDBlinky has a bug with newer versions of mame which prevents it from picking up the remapped buttons. This has been fixed in the latest release currently in beta test. You can wait for the official release or I can send you the beta if you wish to try it out.

I'd love to try the beta. At least now I know I'm not crazy! I figured it had to be something I was doing wrong.

I found a bug with the start and coin button colors - you must be the first LEDBlinky user with a cp that has RGB start and coin buttons!
Anyway, I fixed the bug for the next release.
