That's a very nice build. I just snagged a Sega light phaser off ebay for a song, so I'll be documenting my build as soon as it's done...
Man, will my cab EVER be finished?

I used Krylon flat black, 2-3 coats same with the trigger used chrome look-a-like...lol

very nice.    did you connect all of the extra buttons?  if so did you connect them as unique buttons, or just wire several of them up as button 2?

I had just wired for the trigger and Aux(button 2) for reload(not needed for area51 but needed for deer hunter).

Hmmm, I've been thinking about just this mod.  I don't like having the sensor board that exposed though.  Can it be put behind clear plexi?  I have quite a few rounds that I saved from my CP (button cut outs).  I bet I could dremel something down to fit in there.

I'm pretty sure he meant the board in the gun being exposed at the end of the barrel.

Yeah, the gun side.  The part that's in the gun is a camera (or what I called a sensor).  The part with the LED's is the emitter.  I know the LED board should work behind tinted glass, but I want to keep the gun sealed (more or less) and the electronics protected.

I would think it should work, It's just a piece of flat clear plastic...I may need to test that.

Can you put the sensor board pretty much anywhere near the screen or does it need to be aligned a particular way?

My monitor is surrounded by an mdf bezel behind tinted glass and I'd love to be able to route out a slot for the board but that means the board would be about an inch higher than the monitor itself?

Also would you happen to know if the sensor board would have any problems being behind tinted glass AND behind some colored film (I'm trying to hide the board as much as possible.

I use mine behind tinted glass with no problems.

Here is what Aimtrak says:

IR Gain
This setting controls the "brightness" of the internal IR sensor. Normally this can be left alone because the gain is automatically set, but you can disable automatic gain control by checking the Disable checkbox.
When automatic gain control is disabled, you can set the gain to one of 5 values with the slider. There are very few situations where you may need to do this, but one such configuration might be where the LED PCB is located behind a tinted glass screen. In this case the gain might need to be increased.
If the Disable checkbox is checked, the slider still functions but will be over-ridden during use. In auto mode the slider moves on its own.

Yeah, I read the AimTrak site.  I was hoping there might be some real world results with using things described on the site.  I know Andy says it works (and I'm sure he could get it to work), but what does it do in the wild...

Actually the board itself needs to be centralized horizontally, so the group of 5 LEDs is offset to the left slightly.

Mounting higher than the monitor top should be no problem.

Do you know what level of tint you've got?  I was planning to use Greylite 14 for my monitor glass, which is very dark, and would love to make sure the AimTrak will work behind it.
I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

I used 20% over the whole thing with a boarder thats like 2" of the 20% in strips so the bar is behind the boarder that is the darkest....I don't know what you would call that, 10%? would have to ask a tint installer.
