Want to make my own art for CP, but have a few questions
« on: January 07, 2009, 05:11:47 pm »
Ok I want to use Paintshop pro or Adobe photoshop (have both) to make an overlay for my CP say 37x14 for instance. I know to set it to Raster and the Dpi to 300.

Now some of the art I will do myself but I also wanted to paste some art on there aswell.
And I was wondering if I begin pasting art on to the Raster image will it affect the quality of the entire image or will it remain a Raster image if it has other art pasted to it.

I wanted to just do the art and take it to Kinko's or whatever and have them print it out for me.

Any pointers.

What do you mean by raster art? Most stuff in Photoshop is a bitmap, which could also be named raster art. Or do you mean the art is converted to a printer dot pattern already?
Whatever, the best programs to make CP art in are Illustrator/Freehand. These vector editors give much sharper output with small file sizes. If you have Photosoup, you might have Illustrator as well. It's a free throw-in deal with Adobe Suites.

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

Don't take it to Kinko's.

The best thing to do is send your design to someone who specializes in printing CPs and marquees. Emdkay and Mame Marquees both do excellent work.

Sorry, when I start a new project in paintshop it asks Raster or Vector.
I'm not familiar with alot of this stuff.

Photoshop is a Raster program as illustrator is vector program both has advantages and disadvantages It really depends on what you are trying to achieve for example if your doing some thing like an airbrush painting you would use photoshop or if you were recreating the galaga side art it would be easier to vector it out it all depends on what you plan to make
