Flaky colours on monitor?
« on: December 05, 2008, 12:17:50 pm »
Hey all.

I just have a general question..

I have a 20" arcade monitor that works great, but have shifting colour intensity..some on
red some on green etc. It usually follows the image on the screen...like Out Run where
the road suddenly changes colour depending on the other colours, like sky, trees and rocks.

Any idea what could cause these instabilities? Caps, transistors?

Thanks a lot!

Nicholas

could be just overdriving the colours, have you tried bringing the contrast down a bit

Hey!

Well, I've had it running for several hours now, and it really seems to also change
over time....when I came up the image was mostly blue. Even though all the color-pots
are turned completely down. I'm giving this monitor 4V through an amp. Which makes
me wonder...did any machines ever use standard 0.7V on the RGB?

Still, it seems very flaky. I'm I'm getting annoyed at these arcademonitors :)

Well, I just measured the voltage it's around 2,5V

When there's a lot of white on the screen the overall contrast goes down
and become somewhat yellowish. As soon as the object that makes the picture
bright starts to go away the overall high-contrast comes back. As if it can't handle
peak-white...or close :)

I have no idea right now what monitor this is. I can't find anything on the chassis but it's
from a generic cab, not a dedicated.

Thanks!

Nicholas

there is a problem with a lot of the wei ya/rodotron chassis whereby the abl pot is not set up correctly,if you are getting problems when the screen changes e.g its goes bright then quickly goes to normal then i am sure this is the abl pot
i think rickn will know exactly how to proceed with this
